I'm old enough to remember when we signed Alan Ball, yes kids we were the Chelsea of the 60s! £100,000 and I remember me dad saying we were going to be paying him a £100 a week!
Today the football world has gone 'How much? Everton can't afford that!'
Like the old grandma who slept before her walk about on Merseyside this weekend, our old lady is awakening after over 30 years of sleeping!
Well done to all concerned, Now punk did I fire 15 or 16 last year? Well punk what was it, do you feel Luki?
Good night and God Bless fellow blues. we are coming back!

Hey ed would like your thoughts on this. Financially I feel that paying off the £28m for Lukaku should be no problem owing that Man U owe £27.5m for fellaini that money could be used to pay Chelsea. With that we should have plenty of money to get another marquis signing before the end of the transfer window e.g. Bony. Couple this with the fact that we have Robbo, a loan signing genius, we could tackle league and EL glory, dare we say it title contenders, it is nice to dream. Every year I dream of the glory days of the eighties. This is always possible considering the RS nearly won the league why can't we, one only has to look at Atletico last season. I have never been so excited as this season in a long time.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Emerald, reign your expectations in son. It's great to have ambition but signing Lukaku doesn't suddenly mean we're title contenders. Please don't start getting ahead f yourself and setting unrealistic targets. It only serves to disappoint .

Agree0 Disagree0

I'd say we're 2-3 seasons away from being title contenders as long as we keep our players and they improve as much as many believe they will.

Agree0 Disagree0

Pb2 I can't remember the saying exactly but its somthin to do with reaching for the stars. The teams who finished in the top 8 last year should all have ambitions of trying to win the tital and yes I think we should be tryin to win it this year

Agree0 Disagree0

Listen we have the same team as last year top 6 will be hard and the teams above are always going to be able to spend more, if we get a season with no Europe in the next couple of years with a good team we could push for champions league but to be even close to Chelsea or city's sqaud depth is unthinkable so please get title contenders out of your head

I really don't want to bring a downer on things after Big Rom signing, but we're still the same size squad as last season.
2 loans have become permanent 1 new buy and Del boy's gone back

I know we have the youth coming through and a few due back from injury ie: Gibbo, Oviedo and Kone but I feel we still need at least 3-4 more buys or loans for the squad.
If we're unfortunate enough to get similar injuries we're back to square one, with extra games, due to the Europa

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Exactly what I said but I reckon he will loan in at least 3 players before the end of the window, its just finding the right ones

Not a big Lineker fan. Although he scored plenty have never regarded him as 'fabric'
He has commented on Rom that at his age he has comfortably outscored Messi, Neymar and Rooney!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I have been pointing this out for some months Tedster. For his age, Rom is a unique talent. His goal scoring statistics are second to none. He also outscored Ronaldo (both of them). He is also a beast that should be able to take a bit of a tackle or argy bargy. I honestly think he is a snip at that price and can't wait to see him is say 3 seasons at age 24! What a player he should be if he keeps his head. At that pont, we should be getting offers from the big Euro teams that dwarf the Suarez and Bale fees.

Agree0 Disagree0

01 Aug 2014 08:48:01
In 3 seasons the average player will be going for fees that dwarf bale and suarez tbf

Agree0 Disagree0

Just get one thing in perspective Degsy. Yes he 's outscored them but he's also played a lot more games than them by that age. He was playing for Anderlecht when he was 16! He developed physically a lot earlier than those players he also scored his goals in a league that is not as good as the Argentinian (messi) Brazilian (ronaldo) and all the other players mentioned. I'm not trying to pull our Rom down here I 'm delighted with him but those stats are misleading. Anyone can take a player and bend stats. There's probably players playing in the tns league in Wales who you could show similar stats for. Not as competitive league and more games. Did your Crystal ball run out of power before you got to that bit mate ;)

Agree0 Disagree0

Pb2, I am not "bending" stats. I am just repeating them mate. I take all your points and I am not saying he is better than any of the players we discussed, but you can't argue with goals. Albeit in inferior leagues. But to score 16 for WBA at 19/20 years old is also phenomenal. I really do think we have signed a gem. At 21 he is inexperienced, probably not fully developed and will only get better with the right coaching. If he was 25 or 26 and I was quoting average stats, I would say yes he is ok. I don't think he is ok. I think he is special and with Barkley also maturing and Kevin M running at defenders, my mouth is watering thinking about 3 or 4 years time if we can hold onto them. He is a beast, but he is going to get beastier! COYB

I do not know the ins and outs of football financing but I do know finance.
If as is reported we managed somehow to pay 5 mill upfront and then a further 5 mill per year until we pay it off, then it's arguably the greatest transfer ever, given the tv payment instalments.
Look put simply if we are paying 5 million for Lukaku, 4 million for Besic and 2 for Barry I would say our biggest signing is yet to come.
The tv deal is over 5 years as well, it's not like we won't receive similar fees over the next few seasons and you would be a very conservative creditor not banking on us at least being in the premier league to receive that revenue given our historical performance with relegation.
As I say I am speaking in normal terms with regards to debts, credit, repayments and investment, if it translates to football and we have agreed to pay the Lukaku fee over 5 years then I would seriously expect another big big signing before the window shuts

Believable0 Unbelievable0

We're probably getting the Fellaini fee (and other transfer fees) by instalment, so the club has to manage the cash flow pretty closely. No wonder it takes time to arrange transfer payment schedules.

Agree0 Disagree0

Agreed Sid but not many clubs would bet on us getting relegated anytime soon so would offer us similar deals for other players.
Point being as it's not a big lump sum but the tv payment is quite big (about 20 million bigger than normal) that we should still have some in the kitty for another decent signing. Then one loan we can afford already as Del Boy has gone off the wage bill, so I expect another signing and two loans.
Exciting times

On behalf of all Evertonians, I would like to say a big thank you to Bill Kenwright. Not only for the Lukaku, Barry and Besic signings, plus the Barkley and Coleman contract extensions, but for having the foresight to appoint Roberto last summer and then being prepared to give him his full backing.
The Lukaku signing may have taken all the headlines, but I feel our best work of the summer was made a couple of months ago when Roberto was rewarded with a 5 year deal.
Thanks again Bill.

Ed025, where does this put us now in terms of money and targets? How many more would you expect in and who? Thanks and keep up the good work mate.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - i see us bringing in at least 2 or 3 matt, henen will be one, then i expect at least 1 purchase..dont know who, and at least 1 loan... possibly atsu, well thats how i see it mate..

The general view seems to be that Atsu (Chelsea) and possibly Traore (Monaco) will join on loan and that Henen - and possibly Galloway - will join on permanent deals with the latter two intended for our development/U-21 squad.
It also seems that some of the U-21 players will go out on loan - a couple possibly to Hibernian (where they'll be familiar to Alan Stubbs) - but we'll need to keep some for our own squad rotation this coming season.

Agree0 Disagree0

Atsu, believe in ed025 Difara Sakho finally god bless back up Gk. So sell Joel please please please.

I just don't see RM getting rid of Robles. Let's hope that one (or more) of our U-21 and U-18 goalkeepers progresses quickly.

Chelsea are the new feeder club for Everton.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Erm, we currently have one player signed from Chelsea and may bring in another on loan. On that basis, Atletico is the feeder club of chelsea. Southampton of Liverpool and so on. Ridiculous comment

Agree0 Disagree0

Wow someone's bitten! we sold Rooney to UTD and were touted as their feeder club.

Jeez. Looks like sarcasm needs to be taught on all sites not just ours.

Just a thought. Wouldn't it be nice after signing Lukaku, Besic and Barry, if good old Lord Granchester thought " sod it, i'm going to put some money forward for another big signing". I mean after all he is a billionaire. If he can't be excited about what's happening at our club, he never will be.

Apparently Tottenham are poised to sign Eric Dier of Sporting Lisbon for 4 million. I know he was with us on loan in 2011, but is there any interest in him now?

Bobby Robson died five years ago today and the FA are honouring him. Just made me think Martinez has a similar personality to Sir Bobby and conducts himself like a true gent

Believable0 Unbelievable0

However, RM does get the players' names right - Sir Bobby Robson was famous for mixing up their names, but that just made him more endearing. So close in 1986 (that cheating handball!) and even closer in 1990 (damn those penalty shoot outs!) - a great football man.

Anybody know what the payment structure is for the Lukaku deal, how much is upfront and how much is spread over x years? I read somewhere it was £5mil a year but I seriously doubt we could negotiate a deal like that. Also the terms that make up the extra £3mil? Thanks

Believable0 Unbelievable0

31 Jul 2014 14:37:41
I know that we all crave every bit of info about Everton, but how would knowing the payment schedule make any difference to anything for the ordinary supporters? Unless we have any direct control over transfers or the club's finances, the info would have no practical value imho. My preference is to let BK, the board, RM, the recruitment staff, etc., get the best deals for the club (they've done pretty good so far I'd say) and then I'll enjoy the team's performance on the pitch. As a supporter, I can hopefully affect the team by vocal support at every match, but I can't significantly improve the club's finances. But hey - if you want to know the financial details, then so be it.

Woke up this morning and had to make sure it all wasn't a cruel dream!! Still made up with signing the Beast. Isco has been told he can leave Real Madrid on loan this hear, given the arrival of James Rodriguez. Madrid favour a move to the Premier League which could set us up as a potential destination. If so it would be a great addition to our squad.

The negativity lifted briefly then the short few started to complain about it was a waste of money and we have blown our budget! that mentality is why we win F.A! Small club mentality! Hopefully bobby has banished that now boss intent shown by the club this summer! Now for henen galloway adriano atsu an to really piss on the medias chips go buy some1 like remy what a strikeforce that would be

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I don't ever want us to be like some of the nouveau rich clubs' fans who now behave like they have a right to success, but on the other hand I wish some of our fans could show a little more confidence and optimism about what's happening at our club. It's not arrogance, it's a belief and positivity - and that emanates from RM who is brilliant when he speaks about our club. Don't you just love it that when RM talks about Everton he always says "our club".

Agree0 Disagree0

31 Jul 2014 09:17:43
All this praise of BK is a little baffling to me.
He always breaks the EFC record, as you will see when u look at the pics around GP. So this is no different, he's got more money than ever this Season with the new TV dosh and the sales we did last window. So why is everyone making out he's done something extrodinary, in fact there should still be more buy's certainly for another Striker with what's left, just Lukaku isn't enough with being in Europe, and the squad hasn't grown from last season yet unless you count all the really young lads?! but so happy we've got him in, well done Roberto for insisting we need him.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Blimey! Give BK a break - he's clearly working his socks off and is a tough negotiator and gives RM every ounce of support that's possible.

Agree0 Disagree0

Have I said anywhere he doesn't work his socks off? Merely pointing out he hasn't done anything different to what he always does, and hopefully he's going to continue doing it soon for more signings.

I have never, ever seen such an amazing reaction to an Everton signing in all my life.

All the papers, radio and TV have gone mental over Rom's arrival. But now it's time to wake up and smell the coffee.

And it smells great! I think we can all stop adding a touch of negativity we usually do over the years and mention that "other clubs have also spent money" and "we need that big, big signing to compete".

Well fellow blues let those shackles off, don your biggest smile, tackle those red ribs in work because we have, with this signing, separated us from the rest in the league and put us with the best.

The only difference now between us and them is mentality. It's time to aim high and commit to that thought. It's time to be ultra positive. It's time to be Roberto Martinez positive!

COYB IMWT NSNO

Believable0 Unbelievable0

IMHO, we missed out last season because our squad lacked experience in depth. I reckon that some players were brought back too soon after injury because we didn't have suitable stand-ins. We also couldn't rest and rotate players. This coming season, despite the extra matches in Europe, we should be better equipped to cope.

Predictions for next season lads? i'm going 1.City, 2.Chelsea, 3.arsenal, 4.Liverpool, 5. Utd, 6.Everton and i'm going for qpr, burnley and west brom to go down, weird thing? 2 of Utd, Chelsea, arsenal, City, spurs and liverpool will be managerless at the end of the season, 3rd to 6th will be very tight imo, I wouldn't be suprised to see us or Utd sneak in top four, exciting season ahead

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I wouldn't put Liverpoo in the championsleague swan buddy I think they will find it tough juggling europe and the league

We're going to win the league, we're going to win the league, and now you better believe us, and now you better believe us, and now you better believe us, we're going to win the league!

(Probably not this season but we can dream)

Agree0 Disagree0

31 Jul 2014 10:19:29
I'll go for 1. Chelsea 2. City 3. Liverpool 4. Everton 5. United 6. Arsenal qpr, southampton and burnley for the drop. I think rm will still focus on the league and top 4 next season because its where the money is. Strongest team to play pl games and draft in reserves subs and youth for cup and europa games.

Agree0 Disagree0

City, Chelsea, Arsenal, United, Liverpool, Us, Tottenham. Burnley, Soton and Villa to go down.

Agree0 Disagree0

I think it will be a lot more fluid this season with more clubs competing for the European places and the clubs in the bottom-half of the table changing positions right up to the end of the season. But if I really trusted my judgement, I'd put on a big bet and enjoy massive winnings ;-)

Agree0 Disagree0

31 Jul 2014 05:36:02
Well I have to say Mr Kenwright you have made a few blues eat humble pie and a lot more blues very happy. Not only have you delivered one of the best young managers in the game, you have then backed him and delivered the players he has wanted. Would we have been able to attract Lukaku if we didn't have Robbie at the helm? I don't think we would tbh, we are by no means title challengers yet but we are progressing and building a bright future at our great club. We know have a very potent attack in Mirrallas, Mcgeady, Barkley and Lukaku who can all interchange and will cause defences a lot of problems, add to that the extra threat that Baines and Coleman bring and then the protection Gaz and Macca offer and I feel we have a very strong team unit, with a bit of depth to cover for once. Would still like to see another couple of players even if they are just loans, Atsu and Traore maybe but if not I have to say I have faith in whoever the manager decides is worthy of the blue shirt. Counting the days down to the new season with optimism now.COYB

Top post mate ;)

I think we can all (us Evertonians ) feel satisfied with this close season so far, I know I do!

And yes I believe the key factors are currently in place to attract the right players

RM & BK must be ticking the all important boxes:

# reliable#motivational#innovative#adaptable#team morale savvy#

I could go on but I've ran out of superlatives

It's rather nice to be a Blue methinks :)

Just thinking about the average age of our squad and our position in the league! We have a very young squad, Ross, rom, McCarthy, stones, Coleman. Then we have quality experienced players. Plus our under 18s won the league, and we are signing players like besic and henan, with ledson, green, browning, long and co it's very promising! We must have one of the most exciting young teams in the world right now and we have developed most of them! 2-3 years time will be very exciting especially if we can add to the list and keep what we have! Coyb!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I'd like to see McCarthy and Stones given extended contracts.
However, I'm mindful that there are rules (Financial Fair Play?) about how much we can increase our annual wage bill.
