After giving some time to reflect on yesterday’s derby, we were arguably the better better team in the first half but didn’t cause many problems in the second. We were unlucky to lose but that’s football. My biggest take away from yesterday, as well as the games at Arsenal, Man U and Chelsea, is that our “knife to a gunfight” mentality is going away. We now have a manager who exudes confidence and that is being shown by our performances. It’s been a very long time since we have gone into these games against the top 6 (especially away) without the impending sense of doom hanging over the players. Top marks to Moshiri for getting the right people in place from top to bottom. It’s finally looking like we are starting to turn the corner. If we can get a top CF and RW, as well as signing our two loan players to permanent deals next year we will be a problem for any side in the league.

Wanted to wait a day to post so the pain would subside and could give a fair assessment but today I've been riled up more than i can say.
I thought we played pretty well (not our best but more than good enough to take a deserved draw) yet almost every Pool supporter at work has really rubbed it in, that we were played off the park, that Flabinho was the king of midfield, that we were lucky it didn't finish 4 or 5 nil etc.
The most absurd one i heard was that the match clearly showed they are a top 2 team and we are lucky to be top 10. I mean, if that's the kind of game that demonstrates a gulf in quality between title challenger and "mid table mediocrity" then i feel i know zero about football anymore.
With luck we can build a solid points total until the Man City game and then look to push on for a top 6 finish at seasons end because i honestly think we are showing enough quality to aim for a Euro spot. Maybe the blue tinted glasses admittedly but i feel the days criticism is very unjust and we showed we are no longer a pushover.

Poor old Flopps been done for misconduct, (Shame) hope he gets a life long ban.

They scraped through that and they know it. In my eyes we mates them performance wise. Good job done imo. Just heart breaking to lose in that manner but it was the performance that was important. It took our go to assist a player that doesn't really play for them to score in the 96th min.

Have to agree with the comments below regarding Jordan, the guy to his credit has kept us in so many matches when with another keeper we would have been dead and buried by far less teams than Liverpool, also I only have praise for Marco and the type of footy we are playing now which is a joy to watch, yes we will get hiccups now and again but all teams get that, also full credit goes to Marcel for the team we now have compared to last year, the likes of Gomes, Mina Richarlison to name 3 but the whole team is starting to gel, after last years dross under Sam I for one am more than happy in the direction Everton is going HAPPY HAPPY DAYS, and also a big BIG THANKYOU to Mr Moshiri and the Board for giving this back to us.

The kid is still young aswell GB. And we all make silly mistakes when we are young.
We should be happy that he is as good as he is at his age.

Now the dust has settled and people are looking at the bigger picture, I would like to throw in about the backing for Pickford, no doubt he dropped a clanger, but I do not put all the blame on the guy, the ball was in the air for quite a while and not one Everton defender raced backed or reacted to the possible outcome, that was the difference.

You only have to look at Gomes header and how many of their players reacted and got their bodies in the way of the follow up and you are talking a matter of seconds there.

We had a go there and certainly did not deserve that fluke against us, but the performance was one of the best I’ve seen at their place for a long time, got to be happy with that.

We dropped one point when you look at it, all the teams who could have took 6th place lost, so although the results hurt, the bigger picture is progress we have made.

A win on Wednesday and we are back in the mix.

Regarding Klopps celebration and his encroachment onto the pitch - as much as it's against the rules and he should get some form of touchline ban, - a couple of games maybe? - I can in some ways understand him doing what he did. It was imo more an act of relief on his part than anything else. I feel sorry for Jordan but I'm sure he'll learn from his error and not let it effect him too much COYB.

Do not understand all the fuss, he was so pleased to have won a game against a good and improving Everton. To me it says how well we did that he was so relieved to get three points.
Ok we lost but if we continue to improve I hope next year it is Silva running on the pitch to celebrate although not really his style.
At Goodison later in the season be nice to get a win and Pickford plays a blinder.
On another note it reminded me of Grobelar good keeper but made occasional howlers, the one I remember was against us in the charity shield, then we went on to win the league, let's hope the reds do not do that.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - i want them to be a point behind city when we meet at goodison and for us to stuff them and marco to run on the pitch like a lunatic DC, please lord make it happen.. :)

03 Dec 2018 17:49:46
With you there Ed025 what an arrogant piece of work he really is, wonder if he would like it if Marco had done a streak like Erica Roe around the pitch LOL.

{Ed025's Note - i like him you know GB, i dont want to but i cant help myself mate..

Doubt Silva will run on the pitch, big Dunc however is a great possibility, tickling a few of their players under their chins along the way.

Now that I've calmed down over the manner of our defeat and I've looked at the game again I have nothing but praise for our lads. Even Pickford who played well despite his bit of a flap 10 minutes in and his last minute error. (I still can't understand why he didn't tip it over the bar? but, what's done is done) We stopped their trio of Superstars doing what they do best and not many teams can say that. We deserved at least a point from the game, but a flukey goal in extra extra time shows you don't always get what you deserve. Overall it shows we are moving in the right direction and there are definitely more positives than negatives.

Totally agree BigH78, we showed passion and tried to win the game, we had our chances, sad way to lose it, but overall we've drawn at Chelsea, been unlucky at Liverpool, it's going in the right direction, I think next season with a couple of additions we will be pushing from the start for a top 4 finish, read something that Big Sam got a draw and the question was are we now going backwards, well if having a couple of attacks threw the whole game and getting a penalty to draw against attacking football, trying to win, and on another day we could of, I'd take Silva all day long.

What is obvious to me is yes we are all dissapointed. but we are all proud of our team again. Yes someone said thankyou Mr Silva. I agree wholeheartedly. Thank you Mr Silva. please keep signing players of the quality and who fit in so seamlessly the way you have already. Amazing progress! Amazing. Even Kloppety klopp said so.

Not sure what your point is Geri, just over a year ago Everton looked the worst I have seen for many a year, the football was dreadful.

In just 5 months, this football club has been stripped, readdressed with new signings and better man management.

What Silva and Brands has done in such a short time is nothing but amazing, add to that Moshis backing and that in less than 6 months.

Players who were struggling are now benefiting under Silva, Keane, Siggerson, add to that Digni, Bernard, Richarlison, Gomes, Mina, all quality players brought in.

Klopp has been over the park and has taken years to build his own team, Silva has had one transfer window.

Depends how you class Lookman as a winger or centre forward if winger then we had Calvert Lewin as a sole striker with Tosun unused, they had 5 strikers in all that played yesterday.

Silva will address the striker problem but to finish off, we are not celebrating a defeat, we are celebrating a new dawn at Everton Football Club, something only an Evertonian can today.

Just want to give my twopence worth about our great club and game yesterday.
It was a killer but Pickford saved us many times this season, especially away to Chelsea so can't knock him too much.
Defence looks so much more settled and more quality. Coleman back to his old self. almost. Keane and mina looks solid and with strength, height and pace. Digne has been our second best signing this season. Great going forward and can actually defend very well. Just needs to improve set piece delivery a bit more.
Midfield has a bit of everything. Geuye back to his best by keeping it simple and getting tackles in. Gomes our best summer singing. Needs to make this permanent. Unbelievable and finding space and keeping possession and finding blue shirts. Siggy again looks back to his best now he number 10 role. Great at linking play. Wonder pass yesterday for Walcott.
Bernard looks ok. Bit of skill but shocking when he gets into penalty box but will get better as confidence rises. Walcott is our one negative at the minute. Looks like he doing more defensively but lost all confidence and guile going forward. First touch has become like a brick wall.
Richarlison our 3rd beast summer signing. Lots of pace and doing adequately as number 9 but the diving needs to go and I'd actually prefer him out left if we can pick a striker in January.
Plus now we got better options off the bench. Lookman, tosun, dcl not to mention Davies, Jimmy mac and others.

All in all so many positives to take from this season so far and we actually look like a team who can cause problems to any opposition rather than fat Sam and his arriva bus. It is actually enjoyable watching Everton after the dross we got served up last season long may it continue.

{Ed025's Note - great post geoff, i could not have put it better myself mate, kudos..

geoffjohno, good post and if I may echo your thoughts on Richarlison, my take exactly. Near enough spot on the Club are looking/ have identified a target man for January, although only provisio is didn't Mr Moshri allude to no signings in January!

03 Dec 2018 12:11:12
I agree with all that Geoff. Great post. Richarlison needs to be on left and a new striker - although I do think Toson could do a job holding it up for Siggy lookman Richarlison to run on to. I’m not knocking Richarlison but thought he had a poor game last few games and think that’s cod he is out of position. Teams appear to put both centre backs on around him and he gets no space - I think this gets him frustrated and then the diving starts.

Would like to see the following team for Newcastle and Watford

Pickford
Coleman Mina Keane Digne l
Lookman gauye Richarlison
Sig
Toson

Maybe Schneiderlin, jmac and Davies can give Gaeye a bit of a break in these games prior to city and spurs. Also Zouma should play one of the games to keep them all fresh.

I’m happy blue - would settle for 6th this season although it’s a bit crap that season would start very early for Europa Cup - I think we need Europe to keep growing quality squad happy!

Early shout but hope everyone has a great Christmas.

right that is done, let's move on to Wednesday and if we have any realistic chance of top 6 then we need 6 points in next 2 games before city away. If we play like that against newcastle and watford we could run over them, 2 home wins going into the city game and i have hope of getting a draw at city, wer all hurting but wer all blue. COYB.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - as you say johny we move on, it was just another game and we were unlucky no more than that mate..

03 Dec 2018 08:07:15
The way I see things is, both Liverpool and Everton have improved dramatically this season, one game doesn't change that. I think of Everton last season to now? there's a huge difference, this time last season you were buggered! now you're in the top 6 and looking good for it. I think if you play like you did yesterday against Newcastle and Watford, you'll get the 6 points.

If I was an Everton fan right now I'd be gutted but at the same time quite excited about the future, Silva has got things back on track.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - i agree with most of that salah, except the bit about liverpool having improved dramatically mate, i think they have regressed a bit to be honest and even though the defence is more solid the attacking threat and entertainment value seems to have dropped off a bit, im not having a cheap shot here just saying what i see..

03 Dec 2018 08:28:02
Of course Ed25, each to their own. I do agree with what you're saying, last season we looked a lot more entertaining then we do this season. What I mean by improved is, last season that game yesterday we'd of likely drawn or lost, same goes for a few of the other games but somehow, even though we aren't playing great football, we are getting the desired results, that's enough for me right now mate as much as I'd like to see us playing that incredible attacking football we were last season if I had to choose that or getting the right results no matter what, it'd be getting the right results personally mate.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - thats fair enough for me mate..

03 Dec 2018 08:45:56
tar salah mate, my view on the reds is you need genuine competition for the front 3, right now u have "cover" in sturridge shaquri and the likes but are they pushing them 3 for starts? i think if u got another top forward you would c a massive difference, defence has improved massivly but attackers have dropped off alot. Again just my view mate good luck for rest of season except the next derby obviously haha.

I hate to say it, but Van Dyke was a great signing for you lot Salah. The great football bit will come back when things "click", What is obvious to me and I speak with some idiotiv Liverpool fans down here in Devon. a successful team starts at the back. Earlier this season we were drawing games and winning the odd one and losing a couple. Scoring a couple of goals on average. We brought Mina into the team and yes other players too and now we are picking up more points. not because we are scoring more. but because we are conceding less. Same with you lot and last season. The idiot Liverpool fans down here whinge about Man Citys money and Klopp playing Henderson. how many decisions a day does Klopp make. hundreds. Maybe Henderson looks great in training? Maybe you concede less with him in One things for sure hang onto Man City's tail and eventually a decision will go against them, as ending off? A penalty? An injury? They will drop points against a loer team maybe? But if you are still with them with say 5 games to go. you are in with a chance. One goal conceded so far at Anfield all season? You are not going to lose many games with stats like that. I thought we really deserved a point at least yesterday. Matched you in every dept except keeper in the air. Siad it before and again. Pickford amazing shot stopper. weak in the air. Van Dyke scored off a corner against us last season. Pickford to blame there. But is there a better goalkeeper around for us? No way. He just needs to work on that aspect of his game. Silva has done remarkable with us. Remarkable. We just need to get some signings as apermanents not loans!

I have nothing but respect for Everton. I'm purple to be honest. Although I'm happy to get the 3 points, I'm equally gutted that you didn't end up with something. That's a horrible way to lose, but you are a strong side who will do very well in the league.
