Use our rumours form to send us everton transfer rumours.

I'm at a loss as to what we do. unless we have a quality replacement then Silva may as well stay as if we make a change for a mediocre short term replacement then it just gives those players that have assisted greatly in getting us into this mess the opportunity to hide a little bit longer.
If he does stay he needs to completely rethink his approach and stop relying on the dross that have been playing to date.
If Southampton win tomorrow and we get the usual result then we are in the bottom 3 and that's going to be very hard to get out of on current performance.
Twist or stick? . both risky and could result in our drop into the championship.
Have we ever been in the relegation zone at Christmas since the PL started? . do we have the squad and manager to react to such a position?
Very worrying times and no real obvious solution. who'd own a football club!

It is repetitious I know but Silva is not up ro the job. It is so obvious why he should not have been appointed in the first place, that it leads to conjecture and suspicion that something is certainly not right at board level. As BrettAngel says have we ever been in the relegation zone at xmas? Why is it deemed acceptable that Martinez is sacked when we were 11th and Koeman after 9 games, while Silva is allowed to carry on. A massive mistake that is going to cost us.

Whether he is just tactically inept or afraid to make positive substitutions for me it is his lack of passion or positivity! Regardless of the result he stands on the sideline like a sulky schoolboy, the odd punch of the air when we score nothing else!
How can he possibly motivate a changing room when we are down and lacking confidence?

Question for EDS . is the new stadium in jeopardy at the moment with the position the club is in will it be playing on FM mind if he is doing the right thing.

{Ed002's Note - I would not worry about the stadium - it is some years away. The issues will surround the costs and achieving value for money.

Well we are not happy with the Everton situation so how do you think Moshiri feels? He and Usmanov wanted a say in the running of Arsenal but did not get it do so sold their shares. Moshiri purchased the majority shares in Everton. Why did a successful buisnessman do this when I am sure he could have found better investments? After putting a significant amount of money into the club he must be totally fed up with the situation.
So now he is in a quandary, the best managers would not come to us, although he might be tempted to try one of them by throwing money at them. He has tried the middle of the road Managers so the likes of Moyes, Hughes etc. are not attractive. So what does he do? Well he should by now be realizing that too many cooks spoil the broth and what has been happening at the club over the past few years is not working, in fact is a total disaster. So a total change is needed and the next decision Moshiri makes is critical for his tenure as majority owner.
Maybe he needs to decide if Brands is the man to lead the club forward. If so then Brands should be recruiting and be the major voice in picking the next manager not the board or Moshiri or his advisers.
Moshiri should then allow Brands to install a model for the playing side of the club, from the academy to the first team, presumably like Brands previous clubs models with emphasis on bringing in young players with potential, and having a longer term strategy and plan.
A Brands and Arteta combination would be ideal IMHO but if Arteta is not available Brands must have alternatives.

By boxing day we could be in the bottom three and falling behind all the time. I said well before the god awful Norwich performance that to stand any chance of getting even remotely close to last seasons 'achievement' of 8th; Silva has to go. I hope we do well against Liverpool tomorrow, but even if we do this Board have to see the bigger picture and get rid. 3 Teams, same methods, same end result.

03 Dec 2019 16:31:58
Why Arteta?
Heā€™s not done anything other than be peps number 2 at City, no actual managerial experience.
Apart from him being one of our ex-players (who didnā€™t leave in best of circumstances) why do you think he would be a good choice?

Agree1 Disagree0

03 Dec 2019 17:04:23
For me the problem is not the Manager itā€™s the quality of the squad and thatā€™s not Silvaā€™s remit that down to Brands if we hired the best Manager in the world tomorrow he couldnā€™t do any better than Silva the squad is the squad not good enough.

Agree2 Disagree0

03 Dec 2019 17:48:44
Arteta because he has been learning from one of the best managers in the world who has stated that he is capable of being the manager of a top club. He is being groomed to take over at City so why wouldn't he be good enough for us? He also has the reputation of getting the best out of players and giving the younger players good advice.
I believe Brands has been instructed to recruit for the short term, not the long term which to my knowledge is his expertise. If recruitment is Brands fault then Moshiri needs to get rid and get in someone who can do the job. My point was that their can only be one boss of the footballing side of the club. We need a revamp of our strategy and both short term and long term objectives. If we continue on the path we have been on we are doomed, new stadium or not.

03 Dec 2019 18:16:48

Queroz, Kidd, Walter smith, phelan and steve McLaren were all assistant coaches to one of the best managers we have witnessed since the premiership started and you don't need me to tell you how all those have turned out at management.
Not to mention Clement who worked under Mourinho.

The fact is that more assistants to world class managers have failed than have succeeded so Arteta is a massive risk. Do we need that right now?

Agree3 Disagree0

03 Dec 2019 19:54:02
Yes it is a risk Smit, so is appointing anyone, we haven't been too successful with the last four managers who had a lot of experience have we! Time will tell with Arteta, he will manage somewhere and we may look back and wish we had taken the risk.

For what its worth, my opinion is that the club need to stop and have a good hard look at themselves. Why do we keep struggling to make an impact each year despite spending significant amounts of money? They need to find the root cause for this. Secondly, they need to address those root cause (s) . they need to ask themselves what is the goal, what is the strategy to get there and what characters/ roles and structure do they need to implement those goals. Since moyes left (indeed whilst moyes was there) they haven't done that imo. i believe moyes (at the time) was a lucky find for our club. but there was not a lot of thinking went into that decision. From my perspective we seem to have maintained a slap dash approach as far as due diligence is concerned, evident by the buying of 4 number 10s in the koeman era. My point is that I think the wrong people are on the board or being allowed to influence them with duff info, and until there is a fundamental change NOTHING will change.

03 Dec 2019 20:53:32
Brian Kidd spent years learning from Fergie and was a complete flop as a manager. There's a massive difference between managing and being a top No 2.having saidcthat it doesn't mean Arteta won't step up.

Agree2 Disagree0

03 Dec 2019 21:09:16
Look my whole point was that we have to change strategy and the way we do things including who choses the manager. I agree with jcl1878 that a fundamental change is needed. Let the board run the business and have a football expert run the footballing part. Why have a Director of Football if does not make the decisions?

Back in 1999 just met my now wife and took her to a local pub in Plymouth to show her my passion for Everton. Miraculous we won and outnumbered 200-2 she danced on the tables before we were chased out of the pub. This week we have similarly little chance BUT miracles do happen so believe Blues and dance on those tables.

All the talk of Moyes/ no Moyes. other managers. I really think we have a problem within the club. We have made knee jerk reaction decisions since Moyes left. Martinez in and out. Then Koeman sacked after a terrible transfer window. Unsworth given temp charge then him removed to bring in Allardyce then Silva. If you look at the bad times within this period, they followed bloody awful transfer windows. We had opportunities to bring in young players with basic ability and to develop them. But we often went for established players that other teams had decided they could do without. During this time, we praised the youth squads . yet precious little talent has actually made it to first team and secured regular play. Added to that we have released players who have gone to other clubs and performed as well as the ones we have developed and kept or as well as ones we paid Ā£20 or 30 mill for. This is all too much change in a club that needs stability. Look at Leicester City. They have brought in 2 or 3 players each window and the standard of those players has been much better than ours. I don't know how we sort it but we did seem to have that stability under Moyes. I know he riles some people including ED025. But I honestly thinbk we need to get back to basics. I also remember someone else said. during Moyes time. imagine if he had money. Well maybe bring him back and give him the dosh. He must have an idea of some of our squad and he must have an idea of what we need. It appears that the current management do not have that idea.

Do you think the club has lost its identity?

Agree0 Disagree0

03 Dec 2019 10:07:02
Personally I like Dyche as a realistic option, but I hear what's been said here. Most of Moyes crap signings were due to lack of funds available but he also bought a lot of very good players in at a good price.
Howard, Baines, coleman, jags, stones, Lescott, Neville, Cahill, Arteta, Graveson, Pienaar, Yak, Saha, Fellani to name some. Plus we also made a lot from selling a few of these on at big profit as well. We played some really good football when we had the better players under him as well. I know it wasn't always good, there were rubbish times as well and he upset a few when he left but surely we are adults and can get over that šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļø

I'd rather Moyes than Silva for sure.

Agree1 Disagree0

03 Dec 2019 12:00:06
Moyes over Silva any day for me bunkbeds.

And Hugo I'd say we have lost our identity but I'm not sure Moyes alone will bring that back. We had different scouts and coaching staff when Moyes was here. They brought in good young talent and kept the side defensively sound. We'd always be up there in the top 3 for least goals conceded.

I feel really lost as a fan at the minute, I've always been really optimistic but right now I can't see a way of things getting better.

Moyes had talent at Manchester United and unlimited funds and yet failed. He has pretty much failed to impress at every club since he left us. No doubt he would improve things verses Silva but not sure if he is the answer long term.

Agree3 Disagree0

03 Dec 2019 12:45:24
Donā€™t think Moyes had unlimited funds at United in fact I think the flaw was Woodward was inept at dealing in the transfer market and they wasted too much time trying to prise out fellaini and Baines from us
He had an ageing squad that scraped over the line the season before and I think only Mourhino has had a better record than him since Ferguson
Thatā€™s not to say bring him back but it might make sense until the end of the season
I feel we have lost identity and are a very confused club, we brought in Brands to create a more sustainable system then it seems shackled his ability to do his job
We need a manage thatā€™s going to get the team playing for him that will be hard to beat
Iā€™d give up the pretty football right now for a run of wins!
However comes in also needs to understand we are the peopleā€™s club and what that means.

Agree0 Disagree0

03 Dec 2019 13:06:17
So what's the excuses for Real Sociadad, Sunderland and West Ham?
I liked Moyes and do think he did some good things for us but we won nothing, he has always won nothing and second comings are never a success.

Sorry but no thanks for me,

Whether he is better than Silva is irrelevant. If we think Silva isn't good enough then getting someone who might be a little bit better isn't good enough.

Agree2 Disagree0

03 Dec 2019 13:41:12
Bluemike! Moyes failing at Utd is a myth. He was not fired due to failure (look at his stats) . He was fired because their supporters were the same on him same as ours were on Alardyce.

Agree0 Disagree0

03 Dec 2019 13:51:33
Yeah I kind of agree with that BW but I don't think I can bare Silva until the end of the season (I genuinely think relegation is a possibility) and I don't want the club to go all out for someone who is available now or they could get mid season.

Already this season is over we need someone to take over until the end of the season and start looking now for someone else long term. Its like the Koeman situation all over again.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - One of the problems of changing mid season is that there is less chance of getting a preferred option. If Everton look to make a change now it would make sense to put DF in charge for a while, but I suspect it will be Moyes.}

03 Dec 2019 14:21:16
i honestly think if we were to keep silva and hate saying it we could go down problem we have got even if we were to decide change now who do we get that could turn us around and get us back up the table not expecting miracles but il be happy with top 10 finish this season.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - The main advisor to Mr Moshiri has recommended Marcelino to counter the option of Moyes.}

03 Dec 2019 15:11:40
Iā€™m not saying he is for me Iā€™m just saying his results werenā€™t that bad and that he didnā€™t have loads of cash to spend
Problem for me is i havenā€™t a clue who would be good for us
Do we stagnate with an interim manager until the summer?
We donā€™t really look an attractive prospect or seem a top job
Itā€™s a sorry state of affairs! We need to clarify where we are going and some identity
One thing from the recruitment Moyes and Kenwright did, most were a good fit for the club even if not the best players out there iron expensive.

03 Dec 2019 19:14:40
All this talk of Moyes just shows how desperate some have become. He did well on a budget here for a chairman who had no plan to get into the top 6 on a regular basis because of the cost needed. Moyes showed his colours when he went to Man U. He cannot handle big players or attitudes. If we have any hope of getting into the top 6 we will eventually require some big players to give us the help we need. OK they might well have seen better days but the experience they will bring that can be passed on to others will be invaluable. They will also bring big attitudes with them. Moyes will once again be shown up for the inadequate stubborn man he is. Moyes, Brexit, Election. Can't wait until they are all put to bed once and for all.

Silva has shown, like last season that he can turn our form around. Now I'm not saying keep him or get rid but injuries did for him last season and to some extent has done the same this season.
There have been glimpses this season, city, west ham and leicester. Now Bernard is back, Delph shortly and Gbamin at some point in January and we won't be relegated. Brands will have to loan a couple to add to the squad and I can see Kean playing quite a bit the 2nd half of the season.
Our form will get better when the above happens and for me we need to just get to the summer and get rid then.
Unless by some miracle a manager so good becomes available.

My initial post wasnt really saying we need Moyes. it was more pointing out the way he brought through youngsters and signed players that we were/ are still picking (Seamus when fit and up until last season Baines) . my point is he did the 2 or 3 in every window and whilst not everyone made it. most did and we wheeled and dealed. We made profits and worked to a budget. The last few managers have had almost a different set of rules and money to play with. We have moved from shopping in Lidl to shopping in M&S. yet players are not performing and the team is not playing as a team. We had windows where we signed too many left sided players after previously not signing any. Then this season we needed a couple of center backs and signed Mina who really is too slow for the Premier league. I honestly don't know who chooses which players we sign but it is going wrong these last 3 or 4 windows. It caused Koeman's sacking. It caused us making a huge average squad and a group of players that I can't see gelling. We still need a center back or two and a center forward. My use of Moyes was really to say we ran things differently then. yes we have more dosh, but we seem to be chucking it at established players that other teams deem not good enough or they wouldn't let us have them. In Moyes' time he regularly looked at the teams who got relegated or League 1 clubs players and identified the up and coming youngsters. Who was the last up and coming youngster we signed from the likes of these teams? Only Richarlison springs to mind and we had to pay a premium for him. Compare with Coleman, Baines, Cahill, Carsley all from lesser teams. Then remember he had a few from the youth and class players at a snip like Arteta and John Stones (lower league again) . I am not saying this was all down to Moyes. I am saying the club acted differently than it seems to now. We buy players on their last legs or not wanted or at premium prices and ignore the lower leagues it seems?
