One for fun to distract from today, team and score predictions for Wednesday. I would like to see Joel Coleman Jags Mori Galloway. Delboy Clevs Besic Barkley Lennon. Lukaku. 1-0 victory for us. I have decided to rest Stones and Barry as I feel both could do with it Barry especially as he was labouring at the back end of the game today and Stones would be a tough call but just feel we will need grit against City and Mori is a more no nonsense defender and we need Jags because he can actually organise the backline. Galloway is back in as I feel he is better defensively than Baines and Lennon is instead of Mirrallas because he tracks back and again is better defensively as if we have any chance we need to keep it tight at tje back.

That would be my back four. Middle Del Besic Barkley Lennon. Up front Mirralas Lukaku. So yeah 4 4 2. But I just know Mr Martinez does not like 4 4 2.

My team:
Joel
Coleman Stones Mori Galloway
Besic Barry Cleverley
Lennon Lukaku Deulofeu

Have Lennon helping back on Sterling, get Besic to man mark Silva and let Mori dominate Aguero physically.

I reckon City will win 3-1.

Think you need to change your team if they’re going to lose 3 -1!

04 Jan 2016 08:54:22
I hope I'm wrong, the only possibility I see of us going through is the fact they have someone like Manuel Pellegrino as manager. Similar to our current manager, underachieving, massively. City have too good a team IMO and we concede a lot at home.

Jonno, I need to change teams because I don't think we are going to win every game of every competition of every season. I assume most Villa fans assume they will lose to City and Arsenal etc, should they change teams.

First time I have posted all season and tried to stay positive and upbeat, even keep my opinions or views to myself by chewing my fist. I think the reason why many blues are so frustrated and moaning etc. is because we have a fantastic squad but are not using it to its fullest. Players should be picked on form and nothing else, if a player lowers his game then drop him! Howard, kone etc need a reality check. Roberto I believe is not the answer but he will not be sacked unless we are relegated and this is most probably our last season with stones and lukaku as a blue.
Roberto says he is pleased with our defence against Spurs, (I'might not) if it wasn't for the woodwork we would off lost again so our that's not good defending it's called Luck.!

{Ed025's Note - im with you all the way pauly mate..

03 Jan 2016 22:34:27
just watched his interview. Apparently we were 'phenomenal and incredible' once again in defence. Spurs goal, I thought I was seeing things for a minute and Coleman had perhaps had a slight twinge, did anyone else notice he paused his run. I am a firm believer that if an attacker is on your shoulder you as a defender should start your run first, not play catchup.

03 Jan 2016 21:30:42
To see a kid having to take on a forward on a one to one situation just outside his own six yard box not once but three times, whilst his goalkeeper stands there watching admiringly rooted to his line?
We got the draw that I hoped for, he started with Kone instead of Del or Mirralas?

Is there anyone who thinks this guy running our club has a clue what he's doing?

So fearful of the fans snapping tonight he sent that team out with an away team mentality.

Lukaku summed up what many of us feel tonight what the f. going. on?

'Spurs could win title'he states before ko, yes you half whit and we would be in with a shout if you went away.

{Ed025's Note - no punches pulled there then mushy.. :)

03 Jan 2016 21:40:42
Just fed up with him ed, don't want to lose Lukaku and Co!

Agree2 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - im resigned to losing rom in the summer mushy, raiola has hinted as much and agents like him usually get their way, in a way i cant blame the lad, he is top quality and wants to win things and im afraid that with us it seems unlikely..

03 Jan 2016 19:07:54
Would Stones have over played in the box like that if there was any confidence in the keeper?
Twice I watched him come and flap at the ball in the second half for us to be lucky to clear, first half I was petrified for them to take a shot anywhere in our half as he'd have been beaten, there keeper is a class act and won them there point.
Baines played a lot better today but it still bemuses me why he comes from the left to take a corner on the right, he can't get the ball futher than the first man instantly putting himself out of position.
Kone surely there's better options than that?
Better performance today but we needed the 3 points.

Oh it's great to get a point at home to Spurs oh gone are the days well revel in it cause that's the best result we will get this month under Mr Bobby Martinez really pissed of now another home game gone and we don't take maximum points ah well.

Believable5 Unbelievable0

03 Jan 2016 20:36:22
i am like you steff pissed off good style now and before anyone says that's a good point against spurs, its still another draw and at home and we are going knowere city away in league next prem game lose that and the likes of westbrom, chelsea, norich and the rest of the dross down there will soon be above us in the table so a point against spurs does nothing l for me the only bonus was seeing besic get on and change the game but no dout robbie will banish him to the bench again and play his darling kone if not in cup games but definitely in league games.

Agree1 Disagree0

03 Jan 2016 21:15:55
Heart cannot take much more, will have to stop going soon. Why oh why can't we start games like we finish, our first goal and their first goal was because both sides mixed it up a bit, in our case, after the goal (ours) we went back to pass pass pass and spent most of the half in our own sector whereas Spurs kept on mixing it up. Stones a good player but even my Grand Son knows not to piss about with it in the box (no funny quips please) . A few points, why can't we play Del Boy and Lennon on both wings, Lukaku has shown he can do without Kone, why can't Roberto. 1-1 fair result but both sides can justifiably claim they could have had all 3 points. Besic and Del Boy made us look a much better side and increased the pressure but Mr Martinez will no doubt continue to play Kone. Keown said a couple of weeks back that Mr Martinez was under achieving with the Squad he has and now more of the pundits and commentators are saying the same. Finally you have to wonder if Mr Martinez lives in everybody elses World, yet again he comes out with silly comments. Press conference apparently he does not think he can get the players in, in January that would improve our Squad! (Kone, McGeady) .

Howard-6- of going to blame him for the goal surprisingly, he made a couple of decent catches from timid shots. The sarcastic "wayyyy" when he caught a cross is embarrassing. No need for it, I want him out the team too but that was uncalled for, bad morons in the crowd.

Coleman-6-Did okay defensively but not enough going forward.

Stones-7-Fans seen to be pushing him out the club, I saw Carragher say the fans are not wrong when they were moaning. Well, they were, he was in control and moaned at Howard afterwards because he stood there watching instead of helping out. Pocketed Kane, again, did well overall.

Fines Mori-7-His passing is utter dreadful, like Distin, but like Distin he's a solid defender. I don't blame the defence for their goal, the high line caught us out.

Baines-5-Obviously not helped by Kone but Walker had a field day down his side as he refuses to deal with crosses. Too many times he refused to go forward.

Barry-6.5-Not at his best today but kept us ticking and was always available.

Cleverley-8-He's really growing on me, his passing is brilliant, did 2 amazing half volley cross field balls to Lennon and Deulofeu.

Lennon-7-Rightfully his sub was booed, always tracked back as usual and took his goal very well, why can't we play with 2 wide men? .

Barkley-6-Too many times simple passes just seem invisible to him, could have played Lennon in 2nd half easily but shot and it nearly went out the stadium. Look at Dele Ali today, strong and his passing was quick and accurate. Ross takes about 50 touches before doing anything.

Kone-4-Said before I'm a fan, on my Lukaku rating you will see why Kone is no longer needed. Too slow and dithers on the ball, poor positioning when Walker overlapped. But he's a striker being played out wide, play him up top or not at all.

Lukaku-8-Showed today he is the complete striker, his touch was excellent bar that one which bounced horribly off his right foot. Is holding off defenders and is more aware of where everyone is.

Besic-7.5-Class when he came on, wins it so easily and is as calm as they come, hope he starts on Wednesday. Class.

Deulofeu-6.5-Ran at Davies but not much else, nice to see him get stuck in.

Mirallas is definitely off then. As is Naismith. Spurs are a great side, we could be like them, if only we had a proper manager. The fans were a joke, as usual, like I've said, worst in the league, by far. The hatred from these fools will start getting violent towards the players soon. Toxic atmosphere that is going to cost us just as much as the manager.

Lukaku doesn't need Kone to babysit him anymore.

Agree3 Disagree0

03 Jan 2016 21:20:12
With Funes Swan and your observation on his passing, depends I suppose where you sit in the ground, because I have seen him do some wonderful diagonal passes and against Stoke in particular he was better than Stones in my opinion. Today I thought they were both on a par. On Wed though Jags if fit will come in for Funes, whereas I would personally pair him and Jags.

Agree0 Disagree0

03 Jan 2016 21:45:44
Thought Stones was solid today. Was bad against Stoke. Mori was other way round. Good at Stoke. Bad first half today. Some very sloppy passing. Second half he was better.

Thought you were a bit harsh on Coleman and Baines Swan. Coleman saved a goal in the first 30mins. Was a cert to be a goal only he got there first.

Baines is only back and done ok I thought. He's not going to be at his best this quick after coming back. He will improve.

Although Clev played well I would of given him a 7 maybe 7.5 at best. Otherwise I agree Swan.

Agree0 Disagree0

03 Jan 2016 22:04:18
duncansmum, I mean my heart was in my mouth a few times. He came to volley a clearance in our box and missed the ball, had a simple 10 yard pass to Baines on the left and it went out for a throw in. He had time on the ball and had options but launched it straight at Eriksen. Just seems a bit stupid on the ball if that makes sense, seems to have trouble controlling the ball.

Agree0 Disagree0

03 Jan 2016 22:21:43
Swan we all know who you like and who you don't like. Don't know why you bother anymore, your getting as predictable as Martinez team selection.

Agree0 Disagree0

03 Jan 2016 22:29:15
On occasions he is sloppy like in todays game. I think its just cobwebs he'll lose the more games he'll play.

Going on how he's playing so far he seems like a good signing.

Agree0 Disagree0

03 Jan 2016 22:41:24
Swan for various reasons, didn't renew season ticket this season but found myself going to all the home games anyway (son pays) so been mainly in Bullens and Gladwys. Against Stoke and Spurs in Bullens, against Stoke okay view, against Spurs bloody great pilar in the way but felt more confident of a result and then we kicked off LOL.

Agree0 Disagree0

03 Jan 2016 23:01:01
woburn, so, in other words, I gave one of your untouchables a low score so am now "predictable". Tell me, did Howard deserve an 8? Barkley a 9? I like Barry and Kone yet gave them low scores.

Agree0 Disagree0

03 Jan 2016 23:22:33
Swan, you obviously have your favourites. Who hasn't? Its only natural we all have our favourites.

Your ratings always look unbiased and fairly accurate imho.

Agree0 Disagree0

03 Jan 2016 23:57:16
I've been called biased last season because I scored Howard low a lot, you know, because he was also poor last season. It's obviously all about opinions, I have no problem with people disagreeing with my ratings, I have an issue when people just say they are wrong or I'm biased yet never say which players I was wrong on etc.

Agree0 Disagree0

04 Jan 2016 00:04:48
Non of them should be "untouchable" but continually showing bias towards certain players regardless of how they played is just childish. IMO.

Agree0 Disagree0

04 Jan 2016 08:55:38

03 Jan 2016 18:29:37
. def. better 2nd half once Geri and Besic came on. but where was Mirallas? Kone utter tosh once again. yet another draw and no 3 points again. good luck to Spurs - they're everything we're not as a team at the mo and I think they'll certainly get into that top 4 deservedly!

Believable4 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - spurs are a good team soli..so are we..its just that imo they have a better manager mate..

03 Jan 2016 18:50:39
Much better end, he let's them play nice football whilst still keeping them solid at the back.

Agree1 Disagree0

04 Jan 2016 14:39:56

Agree0 Disagree0

03 Jan 2016 18:03:01
Hi Ed fair result today we were far better second half and could have got all three points, I don't rubbish some players like some posters but I have to say when Geri and Mo came we certainly improved bring on City and let's all get behind the team Well done boys, GuernseyBlue.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - we did improve when the subs came on GB, i just hope mo gets a chance at city now mate..

03 Jan 2016 19:38:51
I wouldn't say it was a fair result at all but it is what it is. The first half we should of been 3 or 4 up. Martinez's tactics are questionable, lookslike he plays the same way Wigan did and look where that got them! With the players you have and you have some good defenders I don't get why you ain't more solid. That's twice you lot have done us out of 3 points this season!

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - it was a game of 2 halves rayray, you played very well and you could have won it first half your right, we are poor at the back and that is down to our manager being very naive defensively...but the main reason you have not beaten us this season is because...well your tottenham! and you dont win anything mate..arsenal are the only decent club in north london and that im afraid will continue to be the case forever..

03 Jan 2016 20:32:27
What a ridiculous reply ed025, surprising as spurs are starting to be less spursy and leaving Mid-table teams, like yourselves, behind.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - im just telling it like it is rayray, we finish above spurs almost every season (and expect to) as we are a far bigger club, but i do like your manager mate and when you get your new ground i expect you to be fighting it out with us for the 5th and 6th spot on a regular basis..

03 Jan 2016 21:01:09
Getting a bit too cocky there rayray. Decent manager is helping Tottenham. We're only half way through the season. There is many a slip between a cup and a lip!

Agree0 Disagree0

03 Jan 2016 21:43:46

Agree0 Disagree1

04 Jan 2016 00:07:24
No I'm not deluded, I'm fair, I deal with facts. We finish above you almost every season now. We also have about 10 times more fans than you and make about 100Mil more than you each season and in a few years that will treble. So how are you 'a far bigger club'? Or are you living off a few good years in the 80's still?!

Agree1 Disagree0

03 Jan 2016 18:15:28

03 Jan 2016 18:29:02
Agree with that Bulls. Stones was obviously piss*d off with the fans and rightly so. He was very solid today imo. Mori was sloppy in first half but improved in the second.

Agree0 Disagree0

03 Jan 2016 18:36:06
Stones is a very talented boy, BUT, he is still to learn that there is a time to bring the ball out from the back, and a time to clear your lines. You do not do a gorge best impression, in your own box.

Agree2 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - i agree JCW..my heart cant take much more of that..

03 Jan 2016 18:41:38
Highlights the fact he has no confidence in his keeper to do that rather than pass it back to him.

Agree2 Disagree1

03 Jan 2016 18:43:18
I think he should be trusted more. Obviously some plonker shouted something offensive to him. I don't think he reacted like that because the fans in general were telling him to clear it. That type of thing gets shouted every 10mins.

Has to be some ejit who only knows to give abuse. I'm sure it wouldn't contribute to making Stones feel like home. And wanting to remain here. He should be encouraged to stay at all costs not given abuse.

Agree3 Disagree0

03 Jan 2016 19:11:38
Spot on NBTB, said before if anything makes our players want out it's some of the fans in the ground.

Agree0 Disagree0

03 Jan 2016 20:23:13
Nobody can blame the crowd for shouting for him to get rid, especially in his own box. But if someone has hurled personal abuse towards him then that's just idiotic.
The amount of times we have dicked about with the ball at the back this season, and conceded, should be enough for the players to stop being so naive in such situations. The crowd telling him to get rid is more or less similar to them screaming there's a 'man on'
I don't buy the comment that he has no confidence in the keeper, after all everyone of the back four knock it back to him a few times per game. It was just a case of Stones overplaying, a tendency of his, but it never cost us this time. We don't want to see him cut this out of his game, just do it in the right areas at the right times. He will learn and become better for it.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - spot on for me that spud..

03 Jan 2016 20:40:18
He obviously thought he had it under control. He actually proved he did.

Agree0 Disagree0

03 Jan 2016 21:23:17
He probably did, NBTB, but I've seen him lose the ball by messing around on other occasions. I'd rather he didn't do it in our own box that's for sure.

Agree0 Disagree0

03 Jan 2016 21:23:17

Agree0 Disagree0

03 Jan 2016 21:51:59
I know spudv. In general I do agree with you. If it was any other player I probably would agree. Anyone but Stones. It's hard to know for sure but maybe he's pissed off with Howard. That's only speculation.

I thought the Stoke game was probably Stones worst game yet for Everton. He seemed to be on a mission today. I thought he was superb.

I don't like to see him annoyed. He's the last player I'd like to see leave Everton. Him and Lukaku. If I had to pick I'd probably keep Stones that's how much I personally want him to stay. I think he's a once in a generation type player.

I know he has a lot to do to prove that but imo he has all the credentials to make it happen.

Agree1 Disagree0

04 Jan 2016 14:41:10
Stones was our stand out defender today it's time some fans trust in the player he's become and can still become better, he never looked in trouble to me but would prefer Jags back alongside him.

Agree0 Disagree0

03 Jan 2016 18:11:54
Overall, I thought we did well to get a point against a very good Tottenham Hotspur. We were lucky not to be behind at half-time, but did better in the second half and showed some fight and endeavour. We looked more effective by getting the ball forward more quickly. I thought Besic did well, as did Lennon. Did anyone see Stones's reaction to the crowd berating him for playing his way out of trouble rather than booting the ball out? He was not well pleased!
Now it's on to the ManCity semi-final first leg. I expect Jagielka to play and steady our defence. I hope that Lukaku has his finishing boots on - we'll need to score and he's our best hope.

Better 2nd half
Thought Lennon was a bit unlucky to be pulled off but hopefully that's the last we see of Kone starting a game for the rest of the season or at least he does something that warrants a start
Besic looked very good when he came on.

Believable4 Unbelievable0

03 Jan 2016 17:59:12
Well played Besic great display but what was wrong was obvious we needed Mirallas on for cleverly last fifteen to give us a more balanced attacking line up, will take a draw after the first half but disappointed we couldn't finish the game off last few minutes.
Certainly lifted the side the displays from Besic and Gerry, think Lennon gave us options to, sorry but Kone just is not a premier league player!

Got to improve 2nd half. Tottenham giving us a lesson, moving the ball at pace - which when we do it we are very effective - need to get Miralles on for Kone, Jags on to steady back 4. Only problem is Martinez will have told them how 'phenominal' we have been and keep it the same.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

I also suppose that Howard will get the blame for more pathetic defending for their goal.

. so the clueless 1 pre-match has come out and backed Tim Howard and said its not his fault but that the defense needs to sort it out. what a utter buffoon. how much longer are we paying fans going to stand for this - a Tim Howard quite clearly has cost us on average 1-2 goals a game through constant mistakes and is clearly finished as a goalkeeper and as for the defense - they are well capable but are only playing to the tactics employed by the manager. never heard so much tosh in all my life. its therefore up to you to sort Bobby as you are to blame., . unfortunately, Wigan fans will tell you the same thing - lovely football, but can't defend or stop leaking goals therefore losing and drawing too many matches. which will ultimately lead in relegation if he is not gone!

Woburn, it shows Moyes was better than Martinez.

Muff Spurs better team now, but also are Everton, just the wrong manager running the club and I don't support the case for Moyes return.

Does anyone notice glaring similarities between the manager and Brendan Rodgers? He's basically the Spanish version. People mention Rodger's quotes on Joe Allen/ Welsh Xavi and character and stuff. Is Martinez any different? Thankfully he never came out when we signed McCarthy and said "This is the Scottish Xavi".

However

"I will get you in the Champions League".

"I'd rather lose a game than win it in the 90th minute from a cross".

"Scoring from a set piece is a false goal".

"Samuel Eto'o is a gift from the Football gods".

"Tim's importance to our team is important" (Very recent one) .

"Joel Robles knows he's our number 2 and he knows Tim is our number 1 and that's that. "

"Scoring 2 goals at home should be enough" (unless the opposition score 3 you numpty) .

"Phenomenal".

I'm sure he's a nice man but some of the things he says are truly frightening. Please just, make him stop.

I'll take a 10-0 loss tomorrow, and a Tim Howard red card for high feet while doing a star jump over Harry Kane. Anything to keep him away from the team for a few games!

Yeah, that sounds way better than winning. Let's hope we get relegated and go out of business so Howard doesn't get a game. Yeah!

I mean, really?

How can you not tell that post is incredibly tongue-in-cheeck? Lighten up. Last few weekends have been rough, but there's no need to be so doom and gloom, mate.
