Ed, want to know your opinion on this...... Do you think moyes has lost a bit of confidence in the squad ? Seems to me that his mentality has changed from going into games believing he can beat any team to going into games hoping we don't get beat and probably being content with a draw and a win is a bonus.
His body language and the way he is speaking lately in press conference's suggests his mentality of the side has changed.
He seems like he's dried up at everton and has accepted that were not going to get anywhere this season, that will rub off on the player's.
I love moyes and im not on the bandwagon of saying sack him, but there is always a time when a manager goes stale and it seems to me that moyes has lost a little bit of motivation and needs a new lease of life.
A bit like arteta, everyone could tell that he went stale at everton, and from the games i have watched from arsenal, even though they have been poor, he seems happy and there is a little spring in his step that i didn't see with everton since 2008/2009.
I wont be suprised if we finish 8th or 9th this season and the board telling him there is no money again next summer and moyes leaves the club. Could we blame him ? He's a top manager and deserves to to be successful, at the moment he is not going to fullfill his ambition at everton, which is a travesty because everton are a great club with very passionate fans, and moyes has built this squad down to a man, every player he has bought here and the local lads he bought through, and it's looking like 10 years of his work has got him not much reward. Sorry for being a bit depressing, just be nagging me this season, there is definitely a change in moyes this season the way he speaks after games and his demeanor at games and afterwards, very negative, same negative attitude the player's seem to have toward games, everyone says its 4-5-1 but it's not its how we are approaching games, negative attitudes and a sort of losing mentality. Ive only really saw us perform in the 1st half of against Villa and the first 15 minutes in the derby {Ed025's Note - very good post that mate....i said a few weeks ago that davids body language was saying he was not 100% happy, i think he is a great manager, but you cant tell me that all the stuff that went on pre-season over having no money to spend, and losing one of your top players, has not affected him!, he is a very loyal man, and wont hear a bad word said about his boss, but behind closed doors, he must be tearing his hair out!....and yes the mentality of the side is negative, but unless we snap out of it, and soon, it is going to be a long hard season for us..
Have to agree, there is definitely a change in moyes attitude so far this season, i know it sounds daft but even the Rodwell situation, i think last season Moyes would of went mental after the game in interviews but he was sort of not "overly" bothered, im not saying we want to see him kicking off and getting fined but i was suprised how calm he was.
Also agree with you about his demeanor and body language during and after games .
It doesn't help having no money, because as a manager you get motivation from fresh faces in the squad and different player's to manage and coach. It seems to me that he didn't really want to sign Straqualersui and it was obvious in interviews that he gave about him. Its a concern, i think moyes and the squad will sort of stubble through this season with not much consistency and finish around 9th, the problem is the top 5 teams in the league are so far ahead of us in terms of money and squad depth that i cant see us beating any of them and the teams around us and lower than us have sussed how to play against, they all know we play with one striker and our main threat is Cahill and Baines, if you make Baines defend and play high up the field when your a winger Baines has to stay with you and defend so that's his threat gone, and if you stop balls coming in the box Cahill struggles to make an impact and we only have one genuine quality, experienced striker who lets face it will probably only play around 20 games this season and if our situation is the same at then of the season financially , i think next summer will be even harder than this summer, clubs will be all over us like a rash for Fellaini, Baines and Jagielka and probably Barkley, and even (if he has a decent season) Drenthe could easily be tempted away with high wages due to him being available on a free, fans will be even more fed up with the lack of transfer's and if we have to sell them and moyes is told he can only have a couple of million to replace them i could honestly see him walking despite how loyal he is and despite what i think the genuine love he has for everton.
Im going to be dreading the next 12 months it will either see us be re-born with investment or crumble, lose player's and a manager that is top drawer.
Harsh, but very true ! Ive been thinking this for a long time now !! Moyes has run out of idea's to motivate a team that is never freshened up with new faces.
Nobody is going to buy us, we all have to be honest, we love our great old stadium, but look at the state of it ! It's falling to bits, there is big posts everywhere and the outside looks scruffy that is what is holding us back, an invester is not going to clear our debt AND buy a new stadium AND give us money for players.
Totally agree i think the ground issue is the main reason why we are having problems finding investors/buyers, a groundshare with liverpool would of suited us but that wont happen! So i dont see how we are going to get out of this, catch 22 we need a new ground to look a better investment but we need investment to fund a new ground! :-(
