Don't want to open up the debate about Rooney, but with David Silva MoM for City today, it stuck me Rooney and Silva are the same age. I would literally cry with joy if we got David Silva. Why the big difference when we talk about Rooney. Since he joined the EPL in 2010, Silva has provided more assists than any other player, but 2nd highest over the same time?

I read that a player has a limited time at the top of his game. Something like 10 years. Rooney's early start at the top leads to an earlier finish so the theory goes.

In the main Glennk yea but there are exceptions. Don't have to go to far for one. Wasn't Barry 17 when he started and is 35 now?

Different position NBTB. Rooney's position requires pace. Something he is starting to lose.

If we get him fine. However, for a club wanting to attack this top six we have to move away from this type of player and start being more dynamic. No-one in that top six would want Rooney. Also potentially in wages alone we would be looking at a layout over 3 years of around £20mil. That's hopefully if he halves his wages. Plus United will want a fee.

I know what your saying BlueJohnUns but there's also exceptions in Rooney's position. Teddy Sheringham, Ibrahimavic and Ryan Giggs all started as teenagers. First 2 went to round 40. Zlatan is still going strong at 35.

The way Rooney plays would of took a lot out of him. No doubt about it. If signed I would be hoping the change back to the team he supports would put a spring in his step and he'd have a few more seasons to go.

I believe it come down to one thing. If Rooney wants to come, he will. The lure of silly money in China might be too much or maybe he won't care about the money because let's face it he isn't stuck for it. In this instance he may choose us.

I have every faith in Koeman and Walsh on what might come of it.

I would be over the moon to get either Rooney or Silva. Both are still exceptional footballers.

Without wanting to be over critical after our first defeat of 2017, the team selection, set up and tactics were poor.
We gifted a good side 3 goals by school boy errors. Kane should have been closed down by Barry, instead he stood off and then stuck his leg out! Nevertheless Robles should have done better with full sight of a shot from 40+yards out.
The second goal was a ridiculous piece of poor judgement with Robles rolling the ball out to Sneiderlin with Spurs players in close attendance and on the move, whilst Williams is shouting to players and unaware of what was happening.
The third goal was again a result of a complete lack of concentration on Baines part, who despite being the covering player and shouting instructions to the back line, was actually looking up field and failed to see Deli Alli make a simple run behind the two cb's.
Certainly a bad day at the office for a number of players and RK.

{Ed025's Note - i cant argue with that fancy..

06 Mar 2017 07:45:59
Agree with all that fancy. Barry for me has had his time and is no longer good enough. Slow and pedestrian. It was no surprise we looked more mobile when McCarthy came on.

Didn't like the formation today. It looked like a 4-3-3 but for that you need two up top either side of Rom who will go wide and put balls across. Far too narrow for me and our midfield looked like they were on top of each other at times with no passing option in front on either side. Coleman and Baines can't be expected to cover the length of the pitch for 90 minutes and the Spurs centre halves are too good (Vertonghen's slip aside) to go through. Should have taken advantage of the fact the Spurs full backs bomb forward and try to get in behind to get balls across.

Spurs were very good today. For me, today illustrated that Mori and Williams are not good enough, and are by far the two weakest links in our team. I would have played 3 centre backs as Holgate makes us a lot more solid.

Believable6 Unbelievable0

05 Mar 2017 17:39:31
I personally think those two are OK if you have the youth and pace of Holgate in a three, but neither are agile enough for a back two.

I don't totally agree I thought robles was at fault for the first two goals with schniederlin also at fault for the 2nd as he should of played it straight back to robles and let him know he was wrong to play it out. Mori was terrible and had by far his worst game for us then there is Barry why he started I have no idea macarthy should of started imo but saying that spurs where superb and fully deserved the win with a 3-2 scoreline flattering us.

Agree2 Disagree0

05 Mar 2017 19:29:19
Pretty much agree with Bluey79. You'd swear Schneiderlin and Williams had all the time in the world when Robles played the ball out. Robles shouldn't of played it out but the other 2 imho are just as much to blame.

Mori was poor but for me Barry had his worst game for us. Honestly, before the game I thought it wasn't a bad shout starting him because he hadn't a game in awhile and expected him to be fresh. Hopefully it's a one off because he still has a contract for next season.

Robles had a bad day. His first, in this his first decent run of games. What goalkeeper doesn't have a bad day now and then. People shouting for Hart. I'd welcome him with open arms but he won't be immune from mistakes either. He's had his fair share.

As they say can't win them all. Shows where we are at. Spurs are second for a reason. Only conceded 7 goals at home this season. 2 of them today. Flattering result or not that is what has happened.

Agree2 Disagree0

05 Mar 2017 16:24:58
I shall state the obvious.

We are not a top 2 team. The Spurs showed it, and I would like to think of them as the measuring stick. We were fortunate in the fall with that 1-1 draw at Goodison.

McCarthy should be ahead in the pecking order for midfielders. Thanks to Barry, though, he has been a part of this team improving and his efforts of the past should be applauded.

We have work to do. Other than Chelsea on the remaining schedule, I see ten games against equivalent or lesser competition. I do think we are capable of being a top six team.

Imagine if Bolasie had not been injured, or if Calvert-Lewin had not been derailed by injury.

Our Centerbacks need improving, and another forward would be wonderful to support Lukaku (again that could be one of the above injured players) .

I am not too frustrated about today, the Spurs are good.

Maybe by the time we play Chelsea they'll be too hung over from wrapping up the league a month early to play.

The reason we're not top four yet is consistency. The teams ahead of us find ways of winning even when they're not playing well, whereas we have too many off days and, when we do, we don't even scrap for it.

We've got the (part) owner, manager and money now to change it though it my opinion and are getting closer every week. If we can keep Koeman and Ron then I reckon we'll be fighting for CLand trophies next season.

Goodby Mr Barry, you have done a good job, and most of us thank you, but it's time to leave the stage.
you may still do a job for Villa, and I wish you well.
I was willing to give the keeper the chance to cement the no1 spot, but if we are to become real contenders for major prizes, then hart or pickford have to be top of our shopping list.

Believable4 Unbelievable1

05 Mar 2017 18:55:08
Must admit I don't understand why everyone is so excited about Pickford, other than the fact that he is young and English. He is ok but there are plenty of better keepers out there for what he is worth.

I also think it's unfair to have a go at Robles when he was one of maybe 9 other players in our team who had a bad game. Other than today he has been pretty stellar all season.

Agree2 Disagree1

05 Mar 2017 15:43:56
Well we got outplayed today by a better team. Having said that I don't understand playing Barry who is slow and past it. Two of Spurs goals were due to defensive errors. We need to recruit defenders in the summer not a past it ex-Evertonian.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

05 Mar 2017 15:55:52
Totally agree about Barry, we play too deep and narrow with him on the field and our game slows right down, with better, younger and more mobile players on the bench he should never be starting a game now days. Been brilliant for us but time to move forward.
Bad mistakes made in the game and caught sleeping too often. I like FM but don't see a future for him, can see us bringing in at least 2 CB in the summer.

Agree1 Disagree0

05 Mar 2017 18:03:03
Yes I agree and it shows we are still a long way off the top 4 but we are improving I feel.
We need defenders also more forwards to help Rom, Barclay is not a number 10 as he does not score enough, so plenty of work to be done but we are going the right way.

Agree0 Disagree0

05 Mar 2017 18:48:57
Have to agree with all the above posts. We are getting nearer to be a good side, last season we would have crumbled, to still be in the game with 10 mins to go show how errors made the difference. barry needs to be a defensive sub when we are leading and seeing game out. Understand the selection without recognized winger.

Agree0 Disagree0

05 Mar 2017 13:14:17
So the sky pundits take it upon themselves to sell Rom yet again, Graeme Souness talks out of his backside so don't care for his opinion same with Redknapp, why can't they actually see that just because he says he wants Champions League platform that doesn't mean he is leaving.
Our club is going places and the sooner these biased ex reds see that the better the punditry will be.

I tried saying the same thing to my kopite mate who said that players of every team get spoken about like that well I must be deaf because I only hear them talk about our players like that and it wasn't only souness that tit redknapp did it on gos saying barkley will leave as he doesn't get on with Koeman. nice to see sky with unbiased studio guests, again wasn't it well **** them I say we will never receive the credit we deserve because they are Liverpool's bitch, end off.

Just seen the Zlatan and mings incident and it clearly shows Zlatan stamp on mings, then mings stamps on Zlatan, (Zlatan also done the same thing on Coleman but got away with it) . His elbow was intentionable and out of order but what shocked me more was rooneys comments. To say he seen the stamp, when it clearly shows he didn't and his totally biased view on the elbow plus almost goading for mings to be punished is a disgrace. I'm sorry but I don't want rooney near our club, he has made his bed at man utd and he can go and play in China.

Imho Rooney was looking out for his teammates. Like any captain should do. Good quality to have in any player. Let's face it, what player or manager doesn't tell little white lies for the good of their own team?

Agree1 Disagree3

05 Mar 2017 10:44:43
Why didn't he just tell the truth "I didn't see it happen, but the replays clearly show the incident".
What about the elbow?
Would this happen in rugby? the outcome would be completely different, honesty, integrity and respect for fellow professionals. Mings will get banned and I'm sure Zlatan may get 1 game but it's just poor showing.

05 Mar 2017 15:29:54
I'd like to think Rooney would stick up for us no matter what paulbluenose if he was playing for us. Even telling a little lie to do so. Especially if he was captain.
