Lads being realistic we will not get ince and mcgeady. I think being honest mcgeady is done deal.

But just to add I can't stand people laying into moyes I don't care if last 5 years we have been negative or we have sometimes looked uncomfortable.

Facts are he made us the club we are look at his signings. Baines jagielka were both average at best. Hell jags was playing dm and he moved him back to defence. Then of course you have Cahill arteta. Even Rooney and now john stone's for anyone to insult him makes me laugh.

This time last season we were 4th and yes we have more points playing better football but managers are aloud styles and what happens when Martinez does have to change that back four. We he do what moyes did looking at alcaraz. I doubt it. so yes we have moyes solid foundation and Martinez clever attacking football. Just be cautious Martinez built that Wigan defence that conceeded over 120 goals in 2 season's.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - i dont think anyone believes he done a bad job for us mike, but it was time for him to go, the schadenfreude that we are seeing is a direct result of him treating the club with contempt mate..

06 Jan 2014 22:55:24
yes because wigan had loads of money to spend on improving that defense oh wait they didnt
well at least they could attract big names whilst near the bottom oh wait they couldnt
at least they didn't have to rely on crap like caldwell and ramis oh wait they did
well at least they have a big stadium to attract big names oh wait they dont
well at least they have some of the best fans out there to fill the stadium every week oh wait they dont
well at least they didn't have any injuries in those 2 years oh wait they did
well at least they didn't have a goalkeeper only good on camera oh wait they did
and at least they are not wigan athletic or anything oh wait they are

really? does it matter? just focus on us and let bobby do his thing rather than downplay what he has done so far

It annoys me when people talk about Wigan's defence last season under Martinez as if they have some understanding as to what went on. It was what all my know it all mates of other clubs kept saying when we first appointed him. Wigan shipped a bucket load of goals and were relegated because of one of the worst injury situations ever seen at a premier league club. His signing Ivan Ramis after a great start was put out for the year, Alcaraz followed again for the year. They then lost Figeroa and Caldwell which left them with Emerson Boyce who is actually a full back. They had the lowest budget in the league and were never going to deal with it. To use that as the logic behind suggesting the defensive wheels are going to somehow fall off under Martinez is ridiculous.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - im with you oli..

Chill. we've got the second best defense in the league

Agree0 Disagree0

We won't get McGeady, yet he is a done deal? (Woo, my least favourite phrase in football is back).

Only fools think moyes did a bad job, they've only turned on him because he's a cantankerous, hypocritical and disloyal t***.

And 'what happens when Martinez changes that back four'. Well three of the back four for the last few games have been completely different to the opening fixtures, so he has had to do that already.

Agree0 Disagree0

Judging by several posters' comments about Aiden McGeady, there's more of the "dung" deal than "done" deal about this potential transfer.

Loving life as a blue at the moment especially bobbies willingness to give a youth a chance but who do you think will be the next to step up? I reckon Kennedy got a good chance depending on how many wide players we sign this month

We can only dream Mush, I think we would all love him back.

Only stumbling block is that even though we were his first love I don't think he would accept a 60% wage cut, I know its not as if he needs the dough but money certainly does talk mate

Come home Wazza, you can't buy love

He is a greedy B. That's why he left us in the first place. Great footballer though.and I would love it!

I like many others still feel we owe Moyes a debt of gratitude, no silverware but we played mostly with a never say die attitude. it was frugle us against the world, our dealings in the transfer market were usually excellent. These things kept us all fairly content.
Now with Martinez things have changed, we have an attacking philosophy, we can smell trophies and let's hope that continues for the forseeable future.
Moyes looked like a rabbit in the headlights yesterday with po faced Ferguson looking like he was contemplating a return to his helm sooner rather than later. For Moyes I think it's a job too far and as someone mentioned yesterday on here, he has aged right in front of your eyes .He inherited a team which won the league last season but only through default for the past two years they haven't looked or played like 'Champions'. Would any Blues swap our team for there's right now? As Ed has mentioned, I too didn't feel comfortable with the way he left, something I had believed would happen throughout last season: he had taken us as far as he could and he would go to either Man U or perhaps the Bundesliga. Moyes wouldn't extend his contract and we all know why now.
Man Utd are a team in massive debt, paid for on the back of future merchandising and sales. their existence dependant on their creditors.
We need a new stadium of course but otherwise we seem to be the healthiest and entertaining of clubs, poor Moyes the salt will be well and truly be rubbed in when we have a trophy and he has Utd a runner up medal for the League Cup.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Good post Jonno.
Moyes did go down in my estimation, but perhaps the forces at Utd dictated it as such. Perhaps we will never know.

I hope we win a trophy or qualify for champions league but more importantly have a squad of players that want to be together and who are willing to die for EFC.
Big Egos not welcome, whole hearted players yes please!

Agree0 Disagree0

That was me jonno who said how moyes has aged rapidly. Great post mate well said. Heres a question blues. if moyes has aged so much already what the hells he going to look like in six years if he gets that long? Best answer wins a parma violet.

Agree0 Disagree0

Well brodie, if moyes gets to his six years, I think he well end up looking like Earl from the Wonga adverts.

Agree0 Disagree0

Ha ha class answer dentielad. Well worth the parma violet. I wonder if gollum plays a mean slap bass like earl too?

Agree0 Disagree0

Great post and far more constructive than some of the anti Moyes hating brigade. I think you have summed up my feelings exactly. let's show the guy respect whilst enjoying his downfall!
Degsypulford

Agree0 Disagree0

Why show him respect Degsy? For doing his feckin' job, a job he was paid vast amounts of money for that we could ill afford. To win nothing and bottle every big game. Around the time he was in the top 10 highest paid manager in the world, he had the nerve to suggest players take a wage cut. He's done nothing deserving of my respect and has shown us none, therefore I will show him the same. He's a glorified PE teacher, a fraud and I'm sorry to see you've been brainwashed along with thousands of others.

Agree0 Disagree0

To answer your questions DB Cooper, respect is something that is earned. Look at our league positions for the 11 years preceding Moyes.yes, have a look. Then compare them with the league positions during Moyes reign. I happen to think he earned my respect. I think he has said some unfortunate things. Some have been misquoted, some were wrong.
I am a happy Evertonian and am really pleased he is "struggling" at Utd in the league.
I just look at ex Everton players and managers with affection rather than bitterness. it keeps my blood pressure down I think LOL. Big Dunc was paid vast amounts for doing his job and went to Newcastle. Did we show him respect? Of course we did.
If you don't want to.that's up to you. Me? I am just that way I guess. Take care mate. COYB

Agree0 Disagree0

I know how it works Degsy, which is why I don't have any respect for him. He earneth then taketh away - in keeping with your messiah view of old Davey. He did well for 5/6 years then he thought he was too big for Everton. I just can't comprehend people still hero worshipping the man. He's a fraud. Maybe time to take your posters down now?

Agree0 Disagree0

Ah my friend DB Cooper, there is a difference between hero worship and respect. I did hero worship Alan Ball. I did hero worship Arteta, Howard Kendall and many others. I respect Sir Alex F but think he is a t**t. I am grateful to Moyes for turning us round in his early years and yes I respect him. I will be grateful to RM if he takes us to another level. Of that I am not yet sure. Most posters seem to think he already has. They are now so pro RM you would think we had won the Champions League. So far I have enjoyed all he has done. But to give a reality check, we are 5th in the league, knocked out of the League Cup at first attempt by Fulham and 2 of our best players are on loan. Whilst I really enjoy our football, I also state that last season at this stage we were 2nd in the entertainment league only to Barcelona. This is judged by goal attempts, shots on target etc. Yes RM has continued where DM left off. That is my assessment so far. When RM has signed and sold as many players as Moyes did. eg Coleman 60K, Lescott in 4m out 24m, Arteta in 2.4m out 10m, Rodwell 12m, Felli in 15m out 27m, then I will judge him. By the way, this time last season we were 6th after 20 games. 5 points less than we have now. "Goals for" this season = 32 and "goals for" last season =33! So in effect, we had scored 1 more goal at this stage last season. So much for DM being so negative and not wanting the team to go forwards. If you ask me has he said some insulting things about our club. I would have to agree. I really cannot understand his "disrespect" to us. It seems out of character to me. Will I be pleased if it all goes horribly wrong at Old Trafford? Of course I will.
I just see a picture of rose gardens and joy being painted at Goodison Park at present which in reality is not a lot different to last season with the exception of Lukaku and Barry. And both of these so far are on loan. We can hope to make them permanent I guess. It is early days for RM and I for one will still be behind him if things slip. I think some of the fans who currently hero worship him will be the first to get on his back when things are a bit more difficult.
Degsypulford

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - please remember to log in degsy, unregistered posts will be deleted..

Degsy, please highlight where I compare Moyes and Martinez and the 'hero worship' I afford him? You've just gone into overdrive on Moyes 'achievements' there and you're sure you don't worship at the alter of Moyes?

By the way, our points total after 20 games last season was 33 with a record of 8-9-3. Goals scored 33, goals conceded 25. That makes us 5 points better off and a good of +13.

Agree0 Disagree0

Apologies there Degsy, I completely misread that, I thought you said we were 5 points better off last season. My bad, but as you attempt to rewrite history so often it's an easy mistake to make ;o)

Agree0 Disagree0

Lets end this now eh DB Cooper? I never said you compare DM and RM. I said if you look at all the posts you would almost think the devil has just left and the messiah has arrived. A general view. I have also explained my views in the post above. People seem to think I have this hero worship of Moyes. Perhaps my posts come across as this? I certainly do not mean this to be the case. All I am trying to say, is that I was happy with Moyes as manager. We have finished above the RS the last 2 seasons having spent a fraction on our squad. RM so far is still wet behind the ears yet if you read all the posts, you would think he had made our team totally different. Personally (and it is only my view) I think Barry and Lukaku have made the biggest difference. and like I said in the last post, both are loanees. If we could sign both on a permanent I would be a lot happier for sure. I guess that's all I want to say. I do not think Moyes is God nor do I wish him any success above ours. I would be happy for them to come 2nd in everything as long as we were 1st in everything. Good luck mate and keep the banter going. but not on DM versus RM.
Degsypulford

Agree0 Disagree0

End what Degsy? It's a bit of banter that's all mate. Sometimes though, your seeming infatuation with moyes seems a bit OTT to me and it appears you're heartbroken he's no longer with us. Obviously I've no problem if you choose to respect the bloke, your prerogative and all, but it can appear, to me anyway, that you're actively trying to get us all to give thanks and respect for the bloke but people have made up their minds about him. If that's not the case then I've got it horribly wrong but that's how it comes across to me. Be well

again showing their narcissistic ways, 'think in january this will be a decent window:
ins:
reus
gondogan
iniesta
ronaldo
baines
barkley
schweinsteiger
and
hummels

oh yeah because they can attract players of that quality, man utd, the club ander herrera rejected and tbh I never heard of him before utd were supposeidly buying him but yeah he rejected them and they think 'iniesta and reus will jump at the chance to join MANCHESTER UNITED (the capitals are very important as it shows they are better than everyone else, don't say that to them, they may have to actually use their brains) and moyes and barkley have a great relationship (since when lol?) so we will get him at a discount price', by god they are funny

Mike-Ox Long

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree completely with what you're saying Mike about them being deluded into thinking that every one of the best players in the world want to sign for them, but the Herrera bit isn't quite true. He is a top quality player who will soon be world class and he was very eager to sign. It was united who pulled out. Aside from that though, your list was worryingly accurate. They genuinely say things like:
'Gundogan, Rues, Vidal, Hummels, Iniesta and Varane in January and we'd be back at the top' as if they have some sort of deep insight and as if any of those players would ever want to climb aboard a sinking ship.

06 Jan 2014 17:53:28
Am I clutching at straws? YES.

But I just had this thought in my mind and thought i'd share it with you guys.

Do you think a controversial but talented player like Ibrahimovic, Balotelli or Suarez could instill some kind of fighting spirit in our squad?

Rooney is that type of a player but the aura around him at the moment is negative due to him not signing his new contract and him threatening the club.

I know we have no chance of signing any one of those players but I think such players take a lot off pressure off the team and other players and become the centre of attention.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I think rooney will sign for everton again pc.im sure if we keep going in the right direction, he will run his contract down and he will get his wish of winning somethink with the club he realy loves.even more so if we get champions league football.

ed0025 just out of curiosity, why do you think the rooney to us rumour couldn't pull off. let's look at the hard facts that drive players ambitions of playing football:

1. he's won medals with Manchester United - why would he want to join any other club for the same reason other than win with his boyhood club who he still supports
2. Money - He's earned some mega bucks while at man united and will never need to work again if he retires at the end of his united contact, so what would stop him taking a 60% cut to join us?
3. The legacy he leaves at the club - If he joins us earlier than his 30th birthday, he would still be at the top of his game and able to offer everton as a merchandise club in return. Consider when we bought gazza or ginola they were both past it by the time they joined us and I feel if he left it any later than this chance to run his contract down now and join us for free, we may never sign him again. Not only because of fee's but because I don't think he would be good enough to fit into our team. If he wants to fulfil his ambition of making a positive contribution to efc and leave a legacy behind for efc to move forward again and become one of the top teams in europe again. CraigHuytonBlue

{Ed025's Note - i can answer that in 3 words craig....MONEY, MONEY, MONEY, these guys are not like us mate, if we had a million we would never work again, rich people are driven by 2 things...money and power, he has no chance of any power, so his driving force is wealth...well thats my take on it mate..

Martinez on John stones:

"Defensively he has got everything. He is a confident boy and always has two or three options and leaves it until the end to make the right choice."

"He knows he is stronger, quicker and more athletic than the striker he is marking and that gives real confidence. I think he will develop and become a special centre-half for England.

Had the good fortune to see Eusebio play at GP when I was nine. Always remember asking my dad how did he kick the ball so hard, and why was no one talking him. Twenty minutes later he was still going on about how I would never see a better player than that at GP if I lived to br a hundred. Well I'm over half way there now, and have to say so far he's been right. RIP Eusebio true football legend.

right guys i'm not being negative here, but is tom ince a player that a club in the direction were ging into should be looking at? I mean, he's a liverpool reject, and plays at a championship level? look at zaha, who is apparently the better player? the mcgeady one I can just agree on, and the standard leige lad, but as a club we need to be fining players to take us higher and more forward, not keeping us at same level, and considering were a club of hardly any funds, and seeing ince will cost us close to 7 mill, were as we got kev for 5-6 jela for 5 oviedo for 5 coleman for 60k I think we bought baines for the same price as ince would cost? me personally do not think he is one of the players to take us foreard, hence the reason he nearly signed for cardiff

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - im sure bobby knows what he is doing WB, i too have reservations about ince, but nothing is set in stone yet mate so we will have to see..

Ed I just mean that, moyes found bargains for us which is why in my opinion he is struggling to find big name players to sign, also martinez has signed good players so far for us, but he also did at wigan, but he also has his bad signings, like espinoza? in my eyes ince will be our espinoza

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - its all about opinions mate, my opinion (for what its worth) is that we have one of the best managers around who i trust implicitly to do his best for my club, if he thinks ince will improve us...then im happy with that..

Don't want him, he's not as good as what we already have and he's a RS billybiglicks.

Agree0 Disagree0

Cristiano Ronaldo is a Liverpool reject too. What's to say he won't excel for us. He was in the PFA Championship Team of the Year 2012/2013 and was voted Football League Young Player of the Year 2013, so he looks like he's good enough to make the step up imo. Plus, for a young English player, £8 million seems like a bargain in comparison to £15 million for Zaha and £20 million for Henderson.

hilarious article from the daily mail about how martinez has done nothing so far and how he is only doing well because of david moyes, about how coleman and barkley were made by moyes and martinez has had no say in their development whatsoever, how deluded all evertonians are saying moyes was our best ever manager and then he leaves and he is hated, about how we all owe him a huge debt and how last season we were in the same position we are now and how if martinez didn't have lukaku we wouldn't be in this position and how moyes didn't have lukaku and did better, are you still reading yet or are you asleep? if you are somehow still with me, the article us basically a load of rubbish written by a utd supporter or moyes' no 1 fan, doesn't take into consideration the exciting football, the way martinez speaks, the way we should be higher if not for some bad luck and the way he has improved several players such as seamus coleman and ross barkley (was barkley a regular last year? nope would he be if moyes was still here? nope), absolutely disrespectful towards bobby and what he has done so far and doesn't take into account the many times of heartbreak due to moyes' negative football, how he said we are holding players careers back, about how everton do not really need a manager, about how he was planning it all along, about how he insulted is with his bids and most of all the way he thinks he can just take what he wants now he has money to spend, sorry for the outburst but the article was poor and showed no respect for roberto, if its so easy being everton manager why didn't the writer of the article take the job? don't mean to cause anything but the article could of at least showed bobby some form of respect

Agree0 Disagree0

Just to wind you up Mike. I actually agree with some bits of the report as you put it. Don't get me wrong, I am very very happy under RM. But I was also very happy under DM. To explain more with facts. .
DM did decide to keep Barkley when releasing many other kids. He also blooded him into the first team slowly.
Coleman was Moyes' signing at 60K.
Last season we were in exactly the same (league) position as we are now from the reports I have read. We were also top of the entertainment leagues re shots at goal/chances created. Behind only Barcelona from memory.
Lukaku IS on loan and it worries me as to what happens when he is gone. Especially if we let Jelly go.
I do think RM speaks fantastically and says all the right things. I also think his signings to date have been great. (Kone replacing Anichebe being the exception but we have had this conversation before).
Would Barkley be playing under Moyes now? I would say yes. Barkley has developed and is more consistent now. In my view, Barkley was very inconsistent last season. To explain. Moyes picks that kid Janusaj at Utd now. You seem to have a view that Moyes was deliberately trying to hold Barkley back?I don't see that. I think Barkley has come on leaps and bounds and Moyes would be picking him now. just like Janusaj.
I am not insulted by "insulting bids" by Moyes. I understand that football is a business. .he would not eg offer 150 million for Baines. that would be throwing money away. It is purely business. He will try it on.
Likewise, I trust BK to tell Moyes to stuff any low offers!
I don't care what Moyes thinks or says now. do you? you seem to.
I also don't care what the Daily Mail says. .it has printed lies about politics and other things all my lifetime! So now it is having a go at Football! That's probably because the Mail is aimed at Grammar School educated Rugger fans. Try the Sun for a more unbiased report (only joking)
I Love you really Mike. I am going the game Saturday. Its a 12 hour round trip these days so I don't do it as often as I would like. If you fancy a pint, I will be going the Royal Oak before hand and would be glad to buy you one.

f defending and what to do with the ball but to say martinez has not improved him or barkley one bit is laughable, last season against arsenal barkley had to be neat and tidy no risks, this season he was running at them and leaving arteta for dead many times, he is playing januzaj because he doesn't have to sell him, here he knew playing barkley and allowing him to express himself would lead to him going, holding him back was perfect for moyes, it meant neville and osman could get another year of backwards passing the whole game without worrying about barkley taking over his clear favorites, he rejected many youngsters and kept barkley yes because he saw his talent but again did he use it? hell no he just chucked him to leeds to play right back and right midfield, he rejected many youth is another thing aswell, 'duffy will get his chance' did he? nope hello johny heitinga you can play after having your arse completely torn apart by benteke just last week, buys oviedo, what an exciting winger with pace? oh god no he will not cover every blaze of grass 60 times in a match let's allow him to get nice and comfy on the bench, degsy I have asked you this twice but never got an answer as my question would always be at the bottom of the page or just fall off, would you swap martinez to have moyes back? and thank you but I cannot have a pint with someone who thinks victor anichebe is good enough for the premier league ;)

Mike-Ox Long

Agree0 Disagree0

Hey Mike, I get the jist of most of your post, but not all of it. Firstly, you have never asked me would I take Moyes back. Right now the answer is a defo no! Do I think Barkley has improved? Read my post above. That is exactly what I am saying. That is why he is playing now. He improved under Moyes, and has improved further under Roberto. I do not believe Moyes tried to hold him back. period. I do believe Moyes was less of a risk taker than RM. and in that Moyes may have allowed Barkley to mature at the right pace. I agree about him being neat and tidy under Moyes and having more of a free role now. I think that has helped in his development. I think the team has benefited from this overall. I think DM set up the basis of a very good squad with very good players. RM has come in added 3 or 4 quality players to it and now we are all enjoying our football club. Duffy. I am guessing he has not quite got it at the moment, but may well still develop further? Victor Anichebe. I think you are cruel. The guy suffered some terrible injuries, so is behind in his development. I reckon he has the potential to be a good Championship player or Premiership squad player. I think he is as good as Kone. But we had this chat before.
I will be in the Royal Oak about 1.30 traffic from Devon permitting. Happy New Year Mike.

I think it is now time to stop having a go at the great david moyes. He is the greatest manager I have ever seen, so I think it is time to start showing him the respect he deserves.

His list of achievements are astounding.

Who can ever forget the season he finished 17th. It was magical.

What about the season when we got knocked out of the champions league qualifiers and then the UEFA cup in the same month. Football Genius.

How about going 1-0 up in a FA Cup final after 25 seconds before panicking like mad and losing 2-1. Awesome.

How can you forget going 1-0 up in a semi-final against Liverpool(who were playing their 3rd choice keeper), then totally bottling it and losing 2-1. His proudest moment.

I bet you all still have the DVD of finishing 'The Magnificent 7th'. It takes pride of place in my collection.

Then going to the bigget club in the universe and losing at home for the first time in donkeys years to little clubs like Everton, Newcastle and Swanse. That takes some doing.

Moysie, I take my hat off to you

Don't know after he read you post still be proud himself or not?

I bought a DVD called "David Moyes and the Power of Positive Thinking" - it was a blank disc.

RM and the staff did a lovely video singing "Bring me Sunshine".
If DM and his coaches had done one during their time here it would probably have been some dour dirge penned by the likes of Leonard Cohen full of excuses and regrets and hopelessness.
Any other suggestions?

Haha great post the real mike, made me laugh, coyb, etid

For Evertonians, it's "eitd 'til I die".
For other clubs' fans, it's more like "Etihad 'til the sugar daddies stop spending".

Bloody spell checker!
It should be "etid" and not "eitd".

David Moyes. A great chief scout. He can spot a player ill give him that, problem is he coaches every ounce of talent out of them. As a tactician he is one of the worst in the league. Negative, defensive, boring and ultimately a let down. As we experienced on all those occasions mentioned in the OP.

Hi Ed, now with utd having money to spend do you think baines will go for around £22-25 million. I think he will as Bryan has played well and looks like a very good replacement. We need the young Belgium striker I feel. Who would you like to see and what have you heard from the other eds

{Ed025's Note - moyes is a big fan of baines PC, as are most people, but in the end it will come down to bobby, i cant see us getting that much for him, but if RM thinks he can strengthen the squad in other areas then he may be willing to deal mate..

Baines will not be sold this window.

Agree0 Disagree0

Ed025: every player has his price - at the right time, i.e. when RM decides it's right - but hasn't RM already 100% guaranteed that Baines won't be transferred during this January transfer window? Likewise with Barkley for whom we'd not even accept a world record offer during this January transfer window.
During a future transfer window - well who knows what the situation will be and how RM will want to move forward.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - if bobby thinks the price is right and baines wants to go, then if he feels it is right for the club he will go kev, he is a different case to ross, who is young and who,s price is on the up mate..

Don't you just love being an Everton fan?
I certainly do :)
Good day to you all, fellow Blues.

Haha love it. No better team to support mate (I might be a bit biased). Magical club, magical support

Aaah - memories of those halcyon days of the mid-1980s. And those childhood memories of the team leading up to the 1970 League Championship.
Only downside was that we were cheated out of Europe on both occasions - in 1970-71 by (allegedly) dodgy refereeing, and for the key years following 1985 by being banned from competing because of another club's "fans". Oh dear, the bitter feeling has never quite gone away :-(
