Wow, can't believe the buzz and feel good factor surrounding my beloved Blues at the moment.
It seems like every day something amazingly positive is announced, whether it's new investment, strong hints about a new ground or good players being linked. Even the perennial naysayers appear to have stopped posting on this site.
It's been a long time since I've felt so upbeat and positive about our future and long may it continue.
The future's bright, the futures Royal Blue and I desperately want to be a part of it.

{Ed025's Note - we all do RIB, even sky are lauding us up mate and the echo giving us large....somebody pinch me.. :)

06 Jan 2017 22:13:51
Straight through the middle. Joe Hart, Manolas, Schniederlin and Javier Hernandez. Maybe even a cheeky bid for Depay on loan if we match MU fee for Schniederlin. Europa a certain then. Hahaha

{Ed025's Note - sounds good to me kingo..

Been having a look as far as I can at Lookman. I must say I wasn't familiar with him before we became serious about signing him. Some saying he's to lightweight for the prem or too expensive for an unproven 19 year old. I guess say I like the look of him - great ball control, great balance, great tenacity, speedy, can pass, eye for goal. And unlike Sterling, he seems to have good character - focused and grounded. He's not too small for the position he plays. He's the same size as Gana, who plays defensive midfield, where size is more important - this lad is bigger than Hazard and Messi and plays in a similar position to them. I'm not comparing him to them; just saying you don't need to be huge to play very well as an attacking midfielder. He will prove to be a bargain in the not too distant future. Good work, again, Steve Walsh.

{Ed025's Note - i will buy that mate...

06 Jan 2017 22:29:28
Good times, Ed. Schneiderlin will be another great signing for us if we get that done. Although he's primarily a DM, he offers more going forward than Barry, McCarthy or Gana. He could provide a better link with the forward players than we've had for a while. Southampton fans loved him and even Utd fans seem to have a lot of time for him.

{Ed025's Note - lets just hope we get the deed done mate..

COYB, the Lookman signing is exactly the sort of signing I was expecting from Steve Walsh's appointment. A bit like we used to do when we signed John Stones and Seamus Coleman from obscurity. Yet what fine footballers they turned out to be. I don't wish to go on about Stones. but some where knocking him and saying he tried too much fancy stuff but anyone who watched his performance last night will have seen him have over what seemed like 200 touches on the ball. Everything went through him and I think it was City's 3rd goal went through him about 4 times in defense then he just stepped out with the ball and bang bang.2 passes and it was in the West Ham net. But the money was good so we can re-invest with 2 or 3 new youngsters that Walsh identifies. This sort of signing still happened under Martinez, but for some reason I think the "ripe apples" we were picking were just not quite ready for the 1st team and Koeman and Walsh will work together to make sure ones we pick now are! Hence Koeman insisting he is not loaned back and goes straight into our 1st team squad.

I would just like to say that if we get Kostas Manolis from Roma I'll dance the streets naked. I was so impressed with him 2 or 3 years ago when I watched him play. he reminded me of a certain Paulo Maldini and in my opinion is currently 1 of the best centre halves in European football right now. loving the Calibre of the players we are being linked with in this window but really hope this guy comes. just imagine him and Van Dijk together, now that would be some partnership in central defence!

A mate of mine is a Southampton fan, and although he says all the Saints fan love Van Dijk, he reckons he's not the best 'defender'. If true, not quite sure that's what we need for that money at this moment in time.

Agree0 Disagree0

06 Jan 2017 22:42:42
Think that could be a good point. We know as well as anyone how sometimes the defender that catches the eye is not the one who is doing the best. Yobo, lescott even stones (Although to a lesser extent as he weren't bought for his defensive skills) have been picked out of our team. At the time it was often the unit that was good, let by a captain in defence like jags. One thing I would say about vvd is that he looked top quality before Southampton so maybe it's worth the risk

Hi Ed another very good article in the Echo re the momentous week for the Blues really good read mate, GuernseyBlue

{Ed025's Note - dont tell me the red echo have another nice thing to say about us GB, at this rate people will start to think they are not biased towards the red half mate.. :)

Hi Ed I am loving this mate, never in my wildest dreams would I have thought this was going to happen to our EVERTON, GuernseyBlue

{Ed025's Note - is that about us having a brilliant owner, great manager and wicked investment GB...or that the echo wrote nice things about us mate?.. :)

See the hype on the two lads from Utd has died down from he is at Finch Farm for medical to utter silence. As someone else posted a lot earlier, never there until the ink is dry. This is the Everton way, I don't know why but that's how we are.

Apparently 23M fee agreed and 4 year term for Schneiderlin according to as few sources

This is the first transfer window I can say I am actually enjoying. Not just because we are buying players, but more so because we are not selling our prized assets. We finally have the opportunity to build a team around our best players. Long may it last.

This Ushmanov deal where we sold the naming rights of Finch Farm for allegedly 75 million but of which some of this is a new shirt sponsorship deal sounds a little suspect to even me as an Evertonian. Apparently FFP rules allow investment from commercial revenues but not private ones. What's next. a naming right for a kit bag? The training balls? I guess every club does some of this. but it makes a mockery of the FFP rules. in my opinion anyway! But if it allows us to buy a couple of players and the FA don't get on our backs. who cares?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - It is a simple sponsorship deal - nothing more, nothing less.}

06 Jan 2017 15:02:41
Degsy most of the big clubs have used the same tactic to put money into their clubs, we are just following suit. FFP rules are a joke anyway until the punishments are actually punitive the super rich clubs will just treat them with contempt.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - It is not a "tactic" - it is simple sponsorship.}

06 Jan 2017 15:12:09
I know that;s what is being said Ed002, but what benefit is Ushmanov getting? USM advertising? Tax breaks? Apparently it is a multi million deal. I had never heard of USM prior to this so I guess it has worked on me. but how many non Evertonians know the name of our training ground? Is that worth multi million ads to him. or is there another reason? I am sure he would have got more TV coverage for multi million ads!

Agree2 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - USM is a very well known business and they are discussing aquisitions in telecommunications and internet distribution of sports in mainland Europe - Moshiri is their Chairman. There is nothing underhand, nothing unusual or anything else about this simple sponsorship deal. The amounts involved are far less than say Manchester United's AON sponsorship of their training facilities and light years away from the shirt deals the like of Chelsea has. If you are not happy with it perhaps some sort of hate campaign on Facebook would help drive Moshiri from the club?}

06 Jan 2017 16:43:31
As Ed sometimes says, (not in so many words) we and I include myself in this need to concentrate on supporting and forget about the business side, leave that to people in the know. Nothing to see here.

Agree1 Disagree0

06 Jan 2017 16:17:33
No Ed002 I am extremely happy with it. And thank you yet again for explaining it as you see it. I appreciate your clear and honest appraisal. I am just very suspicious of "big business" and what goes on. I remember when Man City renamed their stadium and someone on here said, "What is next? Naming rights for each corner flag? " I guess it is difficult in certain circumstances to define "from footballing activities". which is what I believe the FFP rules state. You could argue that any money going into a football club is money from footballing activities! Our red neighbours "ripped off" 2 Americans for £200 million that basically stopped them going bankrupt at the time. no FA involvement there I noticed!

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - You really need to stop discussing FFP and I have no idea what your point is about Liverpool and FA involvement.}

06 Jan 2017 19:30:59
Find myself agreeing with elements of Degsy's thought process. From a purely commercial point of view, if you invest in sponsorship to the tune of £75m you would be looking for s return of more than that value over some sort of time horizon (5 - 10 years) from the direct and indirect halo effects of the deal. That's clearly not going to happen here so there is definitely more to it than simple sponsorship. However, don't believe at all it is sinister or underhand and hope we spend it wisely. Good times ahead.

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - good times indeed bulls mate..

06 Jan 2017 15:51:45
Degsy. Good points but as ed says. Drop the looking for catches in a deal, the dodgy past is behind us let's enjoy the new investment

Agree0 Disagree0

06 Jan 2017 17:59:08
I am not a sailor so would never try and captain a ship, i am not a millionaire businessman so would never question a sponsorship deal.
I am an Evertonian who pays to watch the onfield business side of things and that is all i have an opinion on.

Maybe other fans should follow suit and stop being skeptical about deals that actually benefit our club and make the onfield personell more attractive to watch.

07 Jan 2017 12:30:25
Good point bluegray87 but those of us oldenough to remember the Peter Johnson years whereby his way of skirting round the rules were by him having ownership of Everton and his girlfriend bimbo owning Tranmere Rovers . well we have a little bit of skeptism. probably where there is none needed and so I will drop it. but don't blame us for having the skeptism. it has historical value!

Agree0 Disagree0

07 Jan 2017 14:46:41
Totally different situation this than the Johnson era Degsy.
We have a man who came in last season with investment, let's have it right he is the majority shareholder but he is not owner the same way Johnson was.
Just buckle up Degsy and enjoy the ride, we are on the right path with the right men in charge of all the important positions.
I am not saying you are wrong being skeptical, just trust in Moshiri, he did not get to were he is in business by losing money.

I don't see why we just sign depay we want a loan option but utd unwilling to do that we paid 13.5mil for niasse i think deepay would thrive at us

Believable0 Unbelievable2

{Ed025's Note - it would depend on the fee and his wages i suppose roberts mate..

06 Jan 2017 17:52:07
Everton want him on loan until the end of the season. The club are reluctant to pay big money until he proves himself due to concerns over his temperament and off the field activities that have occurred
this season.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - try before you buy works for me AJ..

06 Jan 2017 18:36:59
We've just got lookman so I'm not sure a similar type player is what we are after.

Schneiderlin is the one we need and also the younger CB we seem to bd getting linked with.

Sneiderlin having a medical today few more to follow hopefully good second half to the season coyb

Believable2 Unbelievable1

{Ed025's Note - i dont think it will impact our second half of the season that much roberts, but the buildings blocks will be in place for us to have a really good go at breaking into the big boys league next season mate..

06 Jan 2017 12:56:57
Even with recruitment unless the first 6 suddenly falter, our second half of the season will be to solidify 7th place. As Ed says this is all in preparation for a good Summer recruitment, a good pre-season and a go 2017-18. If RK is to be taken at his word, 2018-19 will be the one.

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - RK did say it was a 2 year plan M, and anyone who thought different was being very naive mate..

06 Jan 2017 09:49:43
In reply to Brian 1878 it wouldn't be a bad thing, but thanks for pointing out that one of the world's richest men owning our club would benefit EFC.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

06 Jan 2017 09:32:11
In reply to Brian 1878 it wouldn't be a bad ting mate . If he sold his Arsenal shares and came on board totally. My paranoia probably comes from the fact I'm old enough to remember Peter Johnson and his joint ownership of Everton and Tranmere. Hopefully F M will back R K in this window and put my silly conspiracy theory to bed .

Believable0 Unbelievable0

06 Jan 2017 08:52:00
Fonte hands in transfer request? Ex Saints manager looking to strengthen center back position? No rumours involving EFC here? What's going on?

Believable0 Unbelievable1

{Ed001's Note - because he wants to go to United to join Jose. So you would only be in the running if those two clubs can't agree a deal. It is a wait and see moment for Everton.}

06 Jan 2017 09:27:45
Ahh. So Smalling becomes available hey Ed? Seen that rumour previously.

Agree0 Disagree1

{Ed001's Note - Jones, Rojo and Smalling are all unwanted in the long term.}

06 Jan 2017 14:41:19
I would go for Jones if available, but he would get sent off every week playing for anyone other than United (except Chelsea) lol
