Love it now that the young core of EFC lions have signed up for the next 5 years or so and good on them. Stability. Now for the 3 new signings. I expect RM is up to pulling the strings to sign some young latin magic but I hope one of the 3 includes Nobilto.

Not too sure about the third strip, jersey is ok, shorts and socks are a bit of an unusual colour.also what's happened to David henen

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I love it, it's great that we are Umbros flagship as they actually have to put effort in to the design and not fo bus off with a one design fits all (nike) kit

What are people's thoughts on Duffy? Does he have a future at the club?
Personally I think he has looked really solid when he has played. Calm on the ball and making some good incisive passes.
For me he has been better then both Stones and Alcaraz.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

4th choice CB for me. Jags, Distin, Stones, Duffy, Browning, Alcaraz

For me, if you want to play in martinez's system you have to be either fast, good on the ball or able to mark strikers out the game, duffy has none, out of those 6? he's probably last choice, I think he will be sold personally

This season will tell not sure if his ball play is good enough

This is a little snippit of an interview with bill,

We do it for our fans and what lse would you be in football for.

I know he isn't the richest but he ALWAYS puts the fans and club first and I for one think he is the best owner in the league in terms of this, there's levy signing players who the manager doesn't know about until they turn up at training or he sees on the TV and Southampton who sell their whole team and replace it with loans, long reign king bill.

Cowpat Sid2, good lengthy post mate, I think what you describe is other wise known for supporters like us as "mushroom management"
i.e. keep us in the dark & feed us sh*t.
I Claudius.

Not many comments about the new 3rd kit. I have to say, I was quite optimistic before I saw it. The style is c1999, as is all the training gear. Not impressed. My lad's mate is an Arsenal fan. Have a glance at the range from Puma if you get bored. It's so much better. How long have we got to put up with the rubbish contstantly served up by this tired has-been manufacturer?

I personally think that Umbro have done a great job with the third kit. In fact, all of the kits have been really nice. I did like Nikes away and third kit last year but I think Umbro have smashed it out of the park. The only thing I would change is purple or white socks on the third kit instead of black, but if the truth were told, i'm being picky.

Good job Umbro.

I got my home top on Tuesday.

If Coleman isn't fit for our opening Premier League match, I could imagine Stones, rather than Hibbert, playing at right back. Howard, Jagielka, Distin and Baines should all start.
At present, I'm not sure which of Barry, McCarthy, Gibson or Besic would get the starting places for the two defensive midfield positions.
Lukaku is a certainty imho to start, but - aside from Barkley - I'm unsure who'd be in the three behind him. It might even be that Besic gets one of those three slots although I expect he'll be on the subs' bench for a few games to begin with. It's good to have some choices in the squad. Unless there's a sudden spate of injuries, I don't see any of the other youngsters (Browning, Garbutt, McAleny, etc.) being selected to start.
Anyone else have a view?

{Ed025's Note - i think you have got it just about spot on sid..

07 Aug 2014 21:16:10
Have to say I think Jimmy Mac would be probably be the best option if Coleman isn't fit with Barry and Besic in the middle!Hibbo - love him but past his best and Jags or Stones always look awkward

John Stones signs new 5 years deal! Well done Martinez!

Stones signed a new deal barkley signs Coleman lukaku joins. Everything just seems to good to be true. Got a feeling deadline day Mccarthy will leave and the 25 mil will just be added back to the lukaku money. Tell me I'm just over thinking but feel like we're set up for a big fall here.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - you are over thinking kirky, he is part of a great spine that we have mate, we just need some quality out wide for me, and a back up CF..

Not even for 50m noone will b sold noone

nastasic has apparently been put up for sale by city.think we could have a chance ed? Need a new young cb to replace distin an jags

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - natastic would cost too much i think liam, £18m is too high imo, we have stones to cover at CB though mate..

Ed025: I agree, as we have plenty in the squad at centre-back.

Stones has signed a new 5 year deal. Great news for the club.

Who have we got our eye on for new signings Ed?

Cheers mate. Great job as usual.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - the atsu deal is not dead yet AL, so he looks as though he could still be one, any others would be a pure guess, as ever we keep things pretty much under the radar mate..

John Stones signs new 5 year deal. All we need is a new deal for McCarthy and I'll be made up.

I've just got around to reading "Flat Earth News" by Nick Davies", which was first published in 2008. He is an experienced journalist who writes in his book about how the media - press and broadcast - are publishing most of their stories without having time to really check them and having received most of the stories from a handful of press agencies or from PR coming out of government or corporations. The same stories appear - and reappear - in all of the media because the journos don't have the time to do their own research and just have to churn out what they've received from the press agencies or from the PR people. He actually calls these journos by the amusing term "churnalists". The job of the media clearly isn't to accurately report the news, but to make money for the owners - who also have drastically reduced resources to save costs. Even the BBC has suffered because of cost-cutting. There are some real horror stories on what the media has perpetrated on the gullible public in order to sell newspapers. He doesn't write about sports stories, but focuses on mainly political and "human interest" stuff.
However, following his insider knowledge of the media, my point is that a lot of the transfer rumours are the same original story (true or otherwise) being "churned" throughout the media OR it's PR coming from the interested parties (agents, clubs, players). Journos on local papers tend to actually talk with those involved and check the facts, but the national media is predominantly just churning the same stuff.
We - the fans - are, of course, addicted to needing gossip and info about our club, which means the media will always sell newspapers or TV subscriptions or generate advertising income based on size of audience. We love celebrity stories - true or not - and we love stories that feed our own preferences (prejudices) and we want some escapism from the mundane aspects or problems of everyday life. Whatever drives us, the media are only too willing to give us our daily fix - just enough to keep us hooked and making us addicted and having to come back again and again.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

True Sid, I think its awful, but I still come on here and check newsnow 25 times a day. I think I need help.

Agree0 Disagree0

Well done Cowpat. You have summed up what I was trying to say about McCarthy rumours. He was interviewed by the Irish Independent which misquoted his interview. which was then put in with a headline that was misleading to say the least. then the Daily Telegraph repeated it word for word with the same misleading headline.

Have to say I think the purple shorts for the 3 rd strip are manky ffs sake I think someone was smoking the magic dragon coming up with that colour wtf.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Not too sure about it either Stef, poor away and 3rd strip this season, just hope the lads perform better than the kit designer

Good news again: this time it's John Stones signing an extended contract. That's on top of Seamus and Ross also having committed to the club. Now get James McCarthy on an extended contract and we can put a lid on all those journo non-stories about the "bigger" clubs taking our players on the cheap. Well done to RM, BK and the board, and all involved in contracts for giving long-term stability to the core of our squad/team.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Beat me to it there Sid. Well said! If Besic is the long term Barry replacement then I think we have the core of a great squad for the future, the only position that concerns me is goalkeeper when Tim goes in a few years.

Agree0 Disagree0

So happy when I see young squad. Feel Bill and Bobby have long plan 5-6 years. Looking forward to see crown return to our blue King.

Agree0 Disagree0

I'm unimpressed by the performances of Robles, but RM seems happy for him to be TH's backup, so I defer to RM's better-informed insight into our players' qualities.
However, I really do hope that our U-21 and U-18 keepers progress quickly, as it doesn't look like we'll bring in another experienced keeper for the time being to cover for TH.

Agree0 Disagree0

Roble 's got enough time to prove himself but not able to do. But u21 or u18 isn't too young to replace him Sid?

What has happened to the traore loan deal end?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - im not sure jipster, but things should be clearer by next week mate..

07 Aug 2014 09:06:33
I know our pre season to date has been somewhat disappointing, missing key players really does highlight our strength in depth or lack of it.
If the manager was asking players on the verge to step up and stake a claim in the absence of regular first team players then this also really hasn't happened.
What is worrying is the season hasn't started and we are already looking at a couple of injuries, WTF is going on with Kone i'm not sure anyone really knows, but the warning signs are already there, I think 3 more in is an absolute must!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

07 Aug 2014 09:37:15
Kone has just completed Ramadan around this time so even if he is fit, he wouldn't be ready to play. We really need another option up front as we will be seriously exposed if Lukaku gets injured, or carries some of his poor form from last season into this season

Agree0 Disagree0

07 Aug 2014 11:34:45
What poor form? He scored in his last 2 games of the season. That said, I think we need to get rid of Kone. I still can't believe he cost £6m, he's been constantly injured, and for the 10 minutes he wasn't, he was abysmal. Just cut our losses and get rid.

Agree0 Disagree0

07 Aug 2014 07:36:49
I thought Browning was good last night. Besic was class. Gibson was good too.

I'm not sure if Nilito was actually as good as we might think because to be fair he was practically unmarked for 60 minutes. Which for a winger is poor on our defense behalf

At least they got their act together once Gibson gave them a right good rollicking.

Hello fellow chosen ones

When are we getting this news on a stadium, that was promised in or around May.
eds do you know anything.

Ps don't worry about preseason matches a lot of lads don't want to get hurt before the start .
Kone aside lol sick note

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - its gone very quiet on the stadium front ste..

The stadium story will re-emerge when some lazy journo resorts to putting out a slapdash story about Everton not being as wealthy as the so-called "big four".

Agree0 Disagree0

07 Aug 2014 06:45:16
Only my opinion but one of the best wide players in the world cup was the Croatian Ivan Perisic, he's fast, can play through the middle, and scores, 12 in 44 games for Wolfsburg last season, better than most other names being mentioned,

Believable0 Unbelievable0

07 Aug 2014 08:27:15
Finally! A proper suggestion, and an ambitious one at that, rather than people on here wanting players (sort of) like young, milner and lennon, an actual good player being suggested for once, well done mate

Agree0 Disagree0

Absolutely forgot this guy. He is the real deal mate even a bit feel bobby want left foot winger.

Agree0 Disagree0

Perisic fractured his shoulder recently lads and I think he's on the way to Italy anyway.
