All the talk about John Stones is very promising. Roberto seems to be saying that he is very close to first team action. let's hope this is the case and the lad turns into one of the best.

It looks like he's the long term replacement for distin, despite being younger he sounds like he's ahead of Duffy as well.

Distin plays on the left of the centre-back partnership. When he's been out, Jagielka has moved to the left and Stones played to the right. For England, Jagielka has played to the left of Gary Cahill. It looks to me that Stones would play on the right and Jagielka on the left as the Everton centre-back partnership when Distin is out. Not sure about Duffy making it as a regular at Everton, and still waiting for Alcaraz to make enough appearances, and not sure about the youngsters coming through.

More like we're still waiting on Alcaraz to make a single appearance. I really think he is going to be a person to call upon in a crisis of injuries. Jags and Distin are untouchable when at best, and even when it is altered, Stones will be the next choice and then either Johnny/Alcaraz.

Interesting views from the OP.
IMHO, Leighton Baines is vital to EFC - for the next couple of years at least and certainly until Roberto Martinez can make substantial progress with the team's formation, tactics, consistency, and playing style. I also think it'll take a couple or so more transfer windows to improve & deepen the squad - and also to allow time for our U-21 and U-18 talent to develop into regular first-team/squad contenders. So, maybe not instant success, but enjoy the journey is what I say.

So Kone is 'out' for the rest of the season, er was he ever 'in'? Sorry but that's 2/3 players from Wigan that have been very bad signings.
A club with such limited resources can ill afford such errors.
Been very impressed with RM to date apart from these signings.

Mushy: I think you're taking the "peas" to be judging these players so soon.

I agree with mevinm on this, although kone has had game time he has had ramadm or what ever it is so was never fit or ready, from what I seen of him at wigan he was always dangerous, am not saying he is a goal machine but I dnt think we have seen his best yet, alcaraz spelling has had injuries throughout his wigan career so god knows what we will get from him, the keeper though, I like he has lots of potential, I can see this boy being no1 for us for many years, and tbh I think howard thins the same, some of the save he has pulled of this season have been top draw and imo that's down to the fact he has real competition for his place.

on aother note, I wernt to sure about rm, but we are doing well, while adapting to his style, we play superb at times, so I can't wait to see the team play when they are used to it and intune with the style/system. so far so good
