Why is it that if any of the so called to four do well, the British press link them with strengthening their squads etc. But now we are doing well and pushing for Europe all I'm reading is Martinez is now being chased by Arsenal or Barcelona and Barkley and Coleman will be sold etc. What a load of rubbish.

{Ed007's Note - You could look at it like they are realising what a good job he is doing on a limited budget and this won't have went unnoticed by richer clubs than Everton. You should never take anything the press tell you seriously, even to checking they have the date right.}

I also read an article by Wenger. I assume it is the same one? I think some of you are misunderstanding what Wenger was saying? He was pointing out that when Everton play Chelsea, we are not allowed to play Lukaku because they own his registration. Likewise, when we play Man City, we are not allowed to use Barry. I tend to agree with him on this. Especially when you consider Chelsea are looking to aquire other foreign clubs to use as a feeder club. Chelsea must have a player loaned out to every club in Europe now. It is quite ridiculous. With regards to the fair play rules, the team on top of the Premiership have been quoted as not meeting the criteria by about 60 million this season and a similar figure for last. So why have the flippin rules if they are not enforced onto some clubs?

Sandy Brown R.I.P.
In the modern age of squad rotation ( 5 subs?) just a moments thought for a lad who was our number 12 when we were only allowed one sub.
Can you imagine that today, 'Okay Sandie, er, yer get into left back, centre back, holding midfielder, attack and once against Newcastle when Gordon West went missing. Goalkeeper!
That own goal? Yer it's burnt into my memory bank. A diving header from the 6 yard box that flew into the roof of the net!
But I also remember the return fixture, LFC 0 EFC 2.
Sandy was a member of our great League Winning team, he wasn't a Ball, Kendle, Harvey or Barkley. He was Sandy and he did his job well.
God bless Sandy!

Sad to hear that Sandy Brown has passed away. R.I.P.

Another of the 69-70 Champions gone to re-unite in the league in the sky. Some good memories of Sandy - including THAT own goal - Played in nearly every position, never took a backward step from anyone. Does anyone else remember the story how he was signed?

That's sad news dentie. I hadn't heard that so thanks for posting. Never the greatest of defenders but an Evertonian nonetheless and a great servant of the club. Sad news and condolences to his family.

Dare I say it, am I the only one slightly worried/fearful about qualifying for the CL? I'd love to be there, would be an amazing experience, it would actually make my year. But getting 4th (an almost impossible task) is only half way. It gets you to the qualifying phase. Have you seen the level of teams in that final draw? They are not easy, they are top top teams. We know only two well. The whole country watching, there will be pressure. If we finished 4th that wouldn't be our achievement, the achievement comes from winning those qualifying games. If the dream happens and we dislodge Arsenal I hope there would be calm and not some big pitch invasion/ song and dance celebration. That should be saved for if we actually qualify for the group if the chance to do so arises. The team must focus now on what they need to do but I hope behind the scenes the administrators are planning their every move, because IF we finish 4th we need to do business very early and be ready for those preliminary matches.

Like you say, we are not in IT until we get through the qualifying. So should be bust our budget in case we don't? To get the players we need, we will need to spend the money we haven't won yet. tricky

Agree0 Disagree0

Yes I agree but we've got to push for it. I remember the last time when we were beaten at that stage and then again in the old Uefa the next match (Villareal followed by Bucharest if my memory serves me). The hard part is not done until we qualify for the group. But let's have some confidence. It's now in our hands to finish 4th and if Celtic (no disrespect to them) can do it then so can we.

The only chance we have of progressing at the moment is finishing 4th and qualifying, also there are a lot of average teams in the draw so its pot luck. We need the extra money from somewhere because we seem to be tied in to a few poor deals, 5th would be the worse outcome in my eyes

Agree0 Disagree0

5th I'm beginning to agree might be a bit of a problem. When we seemed light years away from 4th I was looking forward to watching some European footy at a goodison. But now we are within a stones throw of 4th 5th seems like very small consolation.

Have to say the 2 best teams to watch at the moment are Everton and liverpool it will be great to see both teams in the cl league next year although you have a tougher run in than arsenal momentum might take you there may the best team get it at the moment that is you but things can change very quick if we had have lost any of are last 9 games the media and Davey boy on here would be having a write off liverpool field day.

Still might Tommy, still might. Here's hoping.
