Lots of interesting stuff for me to mention. I had trouble logging on this week so just sat and read all the interesting posts. A few things are apparent to me: Firstly how fickle we all are and how one brilliant performance can lift our spirits and remind us of how great it is to be a Blue (sometimes) . How proud you can feel when you see a performance like that and actually see the pride in the players and their total commitment to the cause. How easy it is to get down when things go against us. and how quickly we can recover. How Robles should be number 1 immediately. Man City are a big side and I am sure with Howard in goal we would have been vulnerable to high balls throughout that game. I am convinced other teams deliberately lump balls in knowing Howard is not up to going for the crosses. How Besic should be given an extended run in the first team. How Osman still has the ability to play a small role. And most importantly how Barry has proved me wrong and does still have the ability to run a game. So much more to say. but it can wait.

Fully agree Degsy. It's important with the return they stop city scoring. I don't know if city will have Vincent Kompany available then, but if they have they are a different team with him playing and will be more difficult to score against. With away goals coming into consideration after extra time, doubly important.

Everton need to nominate someone else to take corners on the right. It was obvious that Everton we're week on the left after the Everton corner with Baines out of position which resulted in city's break leading to their goal.

A previous poster mentioned playing Baines in front of Galloway on the left. Worth a thought.

Cleverly took the one we scored from.

{Ed025's Note - and his were better than what we have had previously degsy..

The same Osman who played a leg breaker of a ball to Baines? Degs Osman is finished now mate imo. Either the games got faster since he's been out the team or he's become slower than he already was, even the quick feet have gone, then again michael flatleys got quick feet doesn't make him a footballer does it? as the arl saying goes.

{Ed025's Note - he has been a great servant to the club jimmy, but as you say time and tide wait for no man..

There"s no doubting that Ed, he has been a good servant.

I have said consistently that Baines is more a LWB than LB, he is not a defender and gets caught out of position easily.

Swerve the wing backs. Back4 full stop. Causes to much confusion with 3 centre halves.

Whyis it I put a post on about lots of different things and in one little mention of Osman, someone tunes into it and here we go again. Football is a team game. We played by far the best game we have played for ages. We drew the 2nd half with players carrying injuries, finished with 10 men, and hung on to have a 2-1 first leg lead with players dropping like flies. Ossman plays a terrible ball to Baines and that's what we end up debating? How about the fact he wass there to come on and play his bit? Yes he is really slow now. But hey, what was the result again? Against who? Finishing with 10 men? No Lukaku? Coleman off? Baines limping and yes he played a bad ball. Last time I played, everyone was allowed a bad pass. Especially when we had plaayed one of the stronger sides and won. After saying all tha, I agree he is struggling and there is no waay he could complete a full game now, but he still can play those balls bringing the full backs to overlap. and sometimes he misjudges them. I will finish by saying Iwould rather have a 35 year old Osman half fit than a Mcgeady/ Kone 5 years younger totally fit.

{Ed025's Note - you dont need to defend him degsy mate we all have favourite players, mine is naisy and he gets stick as well...dont take it too personally its just banter and peoples personal view...its not that long ago that some wanted rom sold for £10m...water off a ducks back for me..

09 Jan 2016 09:30:00
Degsy I would rather play you, me, or Ed025 than a fully fit Mcgeady and Kone. The only fit I know these days is how to fit the ever growing cockys hut into my keks.

I know Ed025. I do bite on this subject. I think because I played a lot myself and made up for lack of skil with downright fitness and determination. The one thing I know about him as a person is he has always been a one club man. I do also know that he trains really hard week in week out and is probably on half the wage of McGeady and Kone. He never moans at being sub. Never has done. Always happy to plaay in any position that the team needs. yes I am not stupid, I know he is struggling these days but he is always likely to chip in with a goal or an assist even with his lead boots on. yet with one misplaced pass, people get on his back? Deulefeu misplaces passes all the time and no-one saays a thing. and no. I am not comparing their current worth to the team. But if Del is here in 15 years time andd misplaces a pass, I will defend him too!

{Ed025's Note - thats fair enough degs, i happen to have a lot of respect for the guy and what he has done for the club, i would like to see him given a role on the coaching staff or youth development myself, who better than him as a role model for young guys coming through?, even though i dont believe he can offer the first team much these days mate..

09 Jan 2016 20:56:07
Degsy its all about opinions. You obviously think and still believe the sun shines outta ozzies backside and that he is still worth a place in the side albeit a small one, that's why you never cease not to mention him in near every post you can. The city game imo passed him by when he came on, he did nothing in that game apart from nearly helping to ruin Baines, s career with that pass I mentioned which has got you throwing your toys outta the pram. Nobody questioned what he has done over the years, or his attitude to being dropped or put on the bench or how well he trains and what a good all round guy he is which he is, I am questioning your undying love for the guy that you still think he can still play a part in the team and anybody else who doesn't think like you is wrong or an Osman hater. Degs imo he's finished end of, get over it.

Really really annoyed today. Local paper here in Melbourne wrote a small article on how Liverpool beat Stoke. Today I searched not once but three times where the article of everton beating man city was. Not even a snippet. What they had was a 1 page spread about a game of 50 year olds running around In the Australia vs Liverpool legends game. Geez that annoys me. The only time we got a little bit of coverage was when Tim Cahill was playing.

Its quite interesting that daily the media constantly sell our best players even though the club has stated this will not happen.
I know we all knock Roberto, he has a stubborn resolve in respect to players like Howard and kone that we think are not good enough, well he shows that same resolve when it comes to our best young talent. As with yesterdays signing another bright young talent that can be developed alongside those that he has bought in or further developed the players DM signed.
We now have Stones and Lukaku as our main two targets that are constantly valued at £40- 50m, surely that price range would indicate a world class quality of player or one that could become that? The fact we are determined to keep these lads and not cash in as we did with Rooney is pivotal in the club attracting new ownership and investment?
Maybe this is a quality in him we have been slow to appreciate, I still maintain my views on some of his decision making but who's perfect, many posters wanted Klopp maybe we had a luck escape? not sure the medical team could keep up?
Lets hope we can add a quality first team player this window, I have a feeling this summer will be time to move on a lot of dead wood and allow more young player an opportunity to progress?

Don't disagree with that Wakka57 apart from I strongly believe there is something in RM's makeup and Staff choice that means he is unable to move us forward. Last season and this is the level in the Premiership he is only capable of, I don't know why but it just feels like Wigan albeit with better players and that is the mystery.

I understand your sentiment duncsmum but we have improved in our playing style but not so much in results. We ironically sit mid table but you really look up not down, this season would have been perfect for a run at the champions league with everyone faltering.
He must get a winning mentality into the team sooner rather than later because he will be under pressure should we not make a significant improvement.
The nature of the premier league is that managers are expendable although we are a unique club in sticking by its manager, but new ownership would see that change I'm sure.
