At bloomin Barry last. Now comes the hardest bit of getting a goalscorer who is at least as good as Lukaku. which could be Lukaku? I hope it is him. He can only get better when you think of his age!!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Lukaku betting in on to an EFC return. Has someone heard something?

everyone!))!! Gareth Barry has signed on the dotted line & agreed a permanent deal with Everton fc tonight!!! Great news.more to follow I expect on this 1!! :D

Believable0 Unbelievable0

To be honest I was starting to get a little nervous on this one, but welcome back Gareth Barry on a three year contract.
Now comes the hard bit. Who will we sign up front? If Chelsea are holding out expecting 30m for Romelu, I don't see anyone buying him permanently this summer; which then opens up the loan situation again. We know he was happy at Goodison last season and he scored a decent amount of goals.
The other option of Bony would be great, but Swansea would want at least 20/25m based on the current World Cup inflated prices.
The question therefore remains this. If we are looking at one of these two as our main strike threat next season, then who do we plump for? Lukaku is younger, knows the club, players, manager and fans; but at best would only be another loanee. Bony would be a lot of money (but he'd at least be ours). He's also older, would have little to no sell-on value in a few year's time and would be an unknown quantity for us despite scoring freely in a poorer PL side last season (no disrespect to Swansea).
To me this is a no brainer. It has to be Lukaku every day of the week!

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - bony for me davey, a more rounded player who i expect will be a cheaper option of the two, for the reasons you have stated mate..

Everton have sealed their first acquisition of the summer, with midfielder Gareth Barry signing a permanent contract with the Club.

The three-year deal will keep the 33-year-old former loanee at Goodison Park until 2017.

An England international with 53 caps, the Hastings-born star spent last season on loan at Everton, turning out 37 times for the Toffees having joined following a deadline day swoop from Manchester City by Roberto Martinez in September.

Barry's return to Merseyside comes a month after he ended his five-year association with the Manchester club.

He notched three goals during his season on Merseyside, forming a reliable midfield axis in tandem with James McCarthy as Martinez's side sealed a fifth place finish and a Club record points haul in the Premier League era.

Barry will join up with the majority of Everton's first-team squad when they report to Finch Farm for the start of pre-season training on Thursday.

Further to my post below, I am not quite slashing my wrists. I am just saying that Lukaku and Barry at present have not signed for us. I understand we are only 5 days into the transfer window but lots of other clubs are lining their ducks up and making signings. Especially the top few clubs. As yet we are 3 players worse off than last season. Del Boy being the other. Lukaku and Barry were immense last season. Del Boy also contributed. Just to stand still we need to sign either those three or another three. That is a big ask. Yes I am worried. We only got those guys in the last few minutes of last season's transfer window. I do not want us to be in a similar situation this time. The point I am making is that we are actually worse off.not the same. To improve, we need 3 top quality signings and at least another one or two. That is a really big ask and follows on from me not liking the use of the loan market for a club of our stature.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

08 Jul 2014 19:42:53
You say that but we will like 3-4 players better off from them coming back from injury witch will add more depth and with some young ones coming through.
if we inly bought 3 players and 2 loans
Lakaku/bony
Barry
cerci - or someone as good
+ 2 loans

with the likes of
kone
oviedo
gibbo
hibbo

And a few youth players
We could like a full 8 -10 team players to play rotate in and around with the first team

And I would be more than happy with

So I know we have not signed any one but I am happy that it will get done and sorted before the season starts

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - love it yorkie..glass half full..works for me mate..

Degsy, be calm as Hindu cows. Bobby is. There are thousands of players out there who we could sign, names that have not even been mentioned by the journos, some who you may even go "holy poop! He's great, I never expected him. " and other exclamations of joy. Once the World cup is over (just a week!) the balls will start rolling, so to speak. When you think of all the players in the World cup who under performed, but still have skyrocketing valuations, just imagine the range on offer of the hundreds of top players who didn't make the cut for their national teams, but may have been better selections if given the chance. This is the pool I hope we draw from, as to some extent, their valuations could be lower due to less exposure. I'm sure Bobby has his targets and don't forget old Bill Kenwright's flair for the dramatic, he'd love to pull another Lukaku/Barry/McCarthy fast one if he could. I am confident we will break our transfer record for a quality player. Keep the faith my blue brother!

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - a man after my own heart OHEFB, bobby will pull a good few rabbits out of the proverbial hat i believe mate..

Agree with u degs.
I just hope we r not being priced out of market behind scenes.
Rumours surfaced again that spuds have bid 20mil for lukaku but chelsea want more.

I hope that Roberto isn't going for average and that we have five big signings.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - bobby does,nt do average AW..

Spot on, how can some people not see this.one post was were only 5 days into the transfer window opening stop panicking.what degsy is saying is we are worst off now with the lose of the 3 players he mentioned from last season and we only had a small squad then.we don't want signings for signing sake.we want quality.maybe I shouldn't worry as roberto is a fantastic manager and will not let us down. but hey were evertionans we always worry.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - it comes with the shirt richie..

Cheers Ed. It can get a bit grim on here. But speaking of magic, piff paff poof! - Barry has signed. Ah, the power of positive thinking!

am not sure signing rodwell and that waste of space from Manchester United counts as spending serious cash ed as these to clowns are just not good enough for Everton now and if rodwell comes back then he should be paying us to play the lads played 5 games in 3 years awful .

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - you dont need to convince me KH, i would sooner sign chaz and dave mate.. :)

08 Jul 2014 17:20:34
look guys and girls if we sign the big man from Chelsea and Barry this only means its the same team as last year but a year older we will need 5 more players at least and they have to be better than we have am just not sure even Spanish bob can pull 5 rabbits out the hat all the other teams that finished above or just below us are spending big and getting the work done fast I hate talking like this but we all know its only a matter of time before have a stinker of a season and start selling our better players tadic would of been great signing but 10m was to much just can't help but feel all our deals will be done on loans but ed will say different

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - i will KH, there is no doubt that we will get a couple of loans and the odd freebie in, but we will spend some heavy dosh as well mate...mark my words..

08 Jul 2014 15:53:21
Thanks T.T., have a go, just a bit of fun.
Didn't we have this Pharrell bloke on loan from

Not a rumour, but if we get Cleverley and Rodwell for a cut price, I honestly think that they'd be good signings. With Europe we need strength in depth? What you think Ed?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - not a fan of either to be honest tom, for me we need players who will strengthen the team and be pushing for a starting berth, and i dont see them replacing anyone anytime soon mate..

Think either could push peanut or osman. Both reaching their sell by date. Also still believe Rodwell could make a very good centre back.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - but would you pay £8m and £5m respectively for the chance that they might come good WB?...i would be reluctant to accept the both on frees mate...just my opinion..

Fair enough Ed but sadly no players are cheap anymore. Just look at what Fulham paid for an average striker. Maybe I'm just being sentimental for the Rodders I once knew.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - i think you are mate, really nice lad, but would not improve us at all imo WB..

08 Jul 2014 13:48:21
Here we go again. We're playing in Europe, have money to spend, new ambitious manager that's got us playing the best football we've played since the 80s and we can't sign a free agent. Plus it now appears every one of out other targets we are 'set to miss out on' maybe it wasn't Moyes that couldn't sign players. Are we that much of a laughing stock? Who wouldn't want to fight for their place in a squad like ours? If Bill and the board won't back Bobby we might as well have the Ginger Gargoyle back.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Before you slash your wrists perhaps you should wait for our manager to return and give some sort of confirmation as to who we are actually looking at and not believe all the lazy journalists just linking us with everyone available!

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - your right wakka mate..

08 Jul 2014 16:43:02
I hope that's the case. Seen as players and managers in Brazil that are actually competing, have either signed players or have signed for clubs.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - big signings at other clubs will trigger a domino effect matt, i have no doubt whatsoever that bob and bill have players lined up, and that the WC and holidays will delay things a bit, but irons will be in fires and hopefully we will hear something shortly mate..

Your so right Ed the reality is other than a couple of clubs there has been little movement in the market yet, once it starts it affects everyone else!

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - thats right wakka mate..

Hi Toffee Tezza, this Pharrell Williams bloke,
I'm not really a rap/hip hop fan, more of a Searchers/Hollies, (must be my age)
Anyway, this song HAPPY, can you give us some
lines that are relevant to Everton.
Anyone else with poems/songs that can be adapted to Everton subjects.( no limericks please}
And no more Bill Shakie, you know how doesn't
like it.
For me The Hollies. Just One Look,
the 1st time at Goodison to see the blues.
Cheers T.T., Fleetwoodblue.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Hey, Hendo. Must admit it was a bit lazy using Pharrel Williams - I was in a rush & just used the first upbeat song title I could think of!
Anyway, you've set me a challenge, one of my jobs is as a retro DJ so I shall have a go. (Setting myself up for a fall here, I think!)

Just a reminder to Blues fans across the globe. Today marks the first anniversary of the sad passing of Dave 'the Cannonball Kid' Hickson. He had reached the grand old age of 83 and will always be remembered as a true gentleman and stalwart of our great club. My thoughts are again today with his family. RIP.

Blatter's nephew in ticket touting allegations. When will nepotism stop and how the hell does Blatter get away with it.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

There is a serious story that Blatter is looking to get the Nobel Peace Prize because of his work taking World Cup football to nations outside the long-established European and South American strongholds. I kid you not - and allegedly a little palm-greasing here and back-handlers there are smoothing the way. Just like journalists won't let the truth get in the way of a "good" story, I imagining that the FIFA bosses won't let some questionable (at the very least) behaviour get in the way of their day in the sun. That'd be literally as well as metaphorically if the World Cup goes ahead in Qatar.

Agree0 Disagree0

08 Jul 2014 11:12:42
It's beginning to look like the the cash we got for finishing 5th is totally irrelevant as all it's done is inflate prices for players who are at best average.

Also Bill, please not Ba on loan. Flash in the pan at Newcastle, and hasn't cut it at Chelski. Our squad can't afford to carry any more dead wood.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Players are like shares on the stock exchange. The value changes according to the money that is paid for a player. More money in the stock exchange the more the shares are sold for. Make sense?

I see that after Milan, us and a whole host of other top European clubs were after Tom Ince he decided to sign for the biggest of the lot .Hull. It just goes to show what agents can do for you.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I reckon that football agents rank alongside politicians, journalists, estate agents and used-car salesman as the "professions" (I use the term lightly) most disliked by the general public.

Agree0 Disagree0

Add FIFA to that list ;-)
Who needs a Stan Flashman (remember him - he reputedly could get tickets for any event from Wimbledon to a Buckingham Place garden party!) when FIFA have it all sewn up within their own family businesses.

£11 million for Ross Macormack, its a mad mad world, crazy

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Degsy wheres this been reported? can't find it anywhere.

Agree0 Disagree0

Sorry Degsy just found it. You had me worried there I thought you were on about we were going to pay £11m for him Phew! Agree total madness.

Agree0 Disagree0

Just shows why so many young british player arn't taken up by prem league clubs - grossly overpriced!

Agree0 Disagree0

The fact that a Championship club (even one getting "parachute payments") would spend £11 million on a transfer is just too risky in my eyes. If he helps them get back into the Premier League immediately then all well and good, but what happens if they don't get promoted. It's a very competitive division and what's his sell-on value if they have to move him out later on?

Agree0 Disagree0

08 Jul 2014 13:24:44
Sid he is 27 too mate, if he was that good he most likely would have been snapped up a while ago, Rangers never seen anything in him and I could probably play in the scottish prem at 42 years old, they dumped him at 18. Fulham could have gotten Rhodes for that off Blackburn, 124 goals in 200 championship games, proven at that level and only 24, madness mate

Agree0 Disagree0

08 Jul 2014 07:15:44
Hi all,
We trusted in Roberto last year and got 2 loan targets late. He made it clear we would see little activity until after the world cup. Still worried though when 2 pivotal players (Barry and Lukaku) won't be around with Euro league beckoning. I never doubted improvement under Roberto but even he will be hard pressed to replace loan signings and get a bigger squad together this season. Bony will help and we would be the right club. Like selling a house we wait until decisions like Benzema, Sanchez, Remy, Moratta, coming to the EPL and likes of Torres, Ba, Lukaku, Suarez, going out. We will get the leftovers unless Roberto sells himself well.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I expect it'll be a week or two after the World Cup final - to allow for those players involved to have some time to rest and recuperate - before the transfer activity starts to get busy. Despite all of the comments about "getting business done earlier", I expect many clubs - home and abroad - to be working on transfers (permanent and loan) right up until the deadline. As long as RM gets the players he wants, then I'll be satisfied.

Agree0 Disagree0

08 Jul 2014 02:44:49
Ba, is second only to cleverly as player I don't want to see in a blue shirt, a money grabbing mercenary, with limited ability, and very injury prone.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - im with you JCW..

Where does Nicklas Bendtner come in your list? And are you relieved that we avoided Tom Ince?

Agree0 Disagree0

07 Jul 2014 23:09:28
Wilfrid Bony! Wilfrid Bony!! Please please Bobby, don't go for Lukaku, his ego is huge & any signing would not be for the long term. he's continually spouting off to the press about when he will make a decision, which club he will join & how he deserves champions league football. this guy thinks he's much better than he actually is!! Um, awake up & smell the coffee Romelu. You have a contract with Chelski & it's they that will decide whether you're sold or not & you also had an average World Cup where even your own national manager dropped you in favour of some relatively unknown striker who's about to sign for the dark sign! As far as I'm concerned, there's no decision to be made now, Bony it is, the guy is sheer class. just like our manager!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

08 Jul 2014 06:48:47
I'd prefer Bony too, but Zacki don't think for one minute that you will get loyalty from any striker as it rarely happens. We certainly won't get it from both Bony or Lukaku, for different reasons admittedly.

I'd like to think that we could get a 20 goal a season striker this summer, but whether that's Bony, Lukaku or someone else, within 2 years someone will be sniffing around and if we aren't in champs league you can guarantee he will be off

Depressing as it sounds it's the reality

Agree0 Disagree0

To be fair Bony hardly set the World Cup alight. No sell on value with bony as well, so can't see us paying the 20 million required.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - neither did rooney, hazard, or toure burnsy, but would you stop that wanting us to sign them?...for me bony is class mate, i dont care how players perform in the WC, its only how they perform for us in the prem that concerns me mate..

Bony scored 2 of his countrys 5 goals not bad for someone who didn't start a couple of games either. On his price rumours seem to be indicating a selling price clause in his contract, If its around the £19/20m stated we should pay it. Proven in prem at a team that doesn't make the chances we make. He would be dynamite get him in Bobby.
