{Ed025's Note - all good choices there vinny..we should know a bit more in the next few weeks hopefully mate..

Anyone know what's happening with George green? He was rated as a superb top top prospect when he came at 15 but that was 3 years ago. At 18 he should be knocking on the first team door shouldn't he, if he's all that?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - bobby has said he loves the guy latch, but he is a bit too much of a free spirit to be in the first team yet..next season will be massive for him mate..

08 May 2014 20:11:19
ed I know you don't know what martinez will do but do you think he will go out on loan or could he be in and around the first team?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - going by bobbys assessment of him swan, it suggests to me that he will be on the fringes of the first team squad next season mate..

Really looking forward to seeing our young players step up next season especially with extra europa games expect to see Browning Garbutt Ludstrum Ledson Green Hope and Mcaleny

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - it would be great experience for them quinny, lets hope it comes to fruition mate..

Nice Quinny, really excited to see that lot, some really exciting names there, we just need one or two to play a part next season and it'll save us trying to spend buying players for those positions.

For next season how about this squad

Squad
GK: Howard Joel Springthorpe
RB: Coleman Browning Hibbert
CB: Jagielka Distin Stones Martins Indi(5m) Duffy
LB: Baines Oviedo Garbutt
DM: Mcarthy Barry(Free) Gibson Milner(loan)
RM: Mirralas Delefeou(loan)
LM: Mcgeady Piennar
AM: Barkley Osman Ledson
ST : Lukaku(20m) Traore(loan) Naismith Kone

Only out Alcaraz

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I'd like to think we'd be able to get more players than that, also ones of higher quality. Therefore, my preference would be:

GK: Howard, Marshall (£6m) (For obvious reasons), Joel.

RB: Coleman, Browning, Hibbert

CB: Stones, Vertonghen (£18m) (Unlikely but I think he's a magnificent player who'd only get better under Martinez), Distin, Jagielka, Alcaraz.

LB: Oviedo, Garbutt, Ben Davies (£5m) (Every time I've watched him play for Swansea he's been magnificent, definitely one for the future).

CDM/CM: McCarthy, Barry (free) (Mr. Consistent), Baines (Martinez has previously stated that he wants to move him into a deep lying midfielder role and I think next season will be the year he makes the transition. Also, if it doesn't work out, he could always go back to LB), Gibson, Emre Can (£6m) (Been very impressive for Leverkusen this season and is still young, reminds me of McCarthy but scores goals).

LM: Pienaar, McGeady

RM: Mirallas, Deulofeu (loan) (Would like to see him develop more with a second stint)

AM/CF: Barkley, Naismith, Thorgan Hazard (loan), Ledson.

ST: Lukaku (£25m) (Was such a difficult decision between him and Bony but for all we know, Bony could be a one season wonder, at least you know what you're going to get with Lukaku - Goals. He's proved that the last 2 seasons and he's still on 20! Is Bony really worth the risk?), Remy (£15m) (Brilliant player when he's fit but seems to be a money grabber. Again, unlikely.), Traore (loan) (Give the big fella another shot), McCaleny.

Obviously I don't know how much we have to spend and I've probably went way over our budget, but that would be the ideal Summer for me. We definitely won't get all of them but they are just some suggestions who I think can take us to the next level.

Agree0 Disagree0

Sorry I forgot Kone and Osman in my post.

Agree0 Disagree0

Sounds good, but we have to careful with registered squads.
For the Premier League, our 25-man squad of aged over-21 (as at 1st January 1993 for the 2014-15 season) players must contain no more than 17 non-homegrown players (such as Howard and Distin) The others (at least 8) in the squad must be homegrown - that's players brought through as youngsters at English or Welsh clubs (such as Baines and Jagielka). Coleman, Naismith, McGeady, etc., - having come through Irish and Scottish youth systems - are therefore classed as non-homegrown. You can, of course, have more than 8 homegrown players and thereby reduce the number of non-homegrown players, but the squad is still limited to 25 players. If we can't name 8 homegrown players, then we just have to name a smaller squad. Any number of players aged under 21 can then be registered in a separate under-21 list - essentially all of your development and academy players.
For the UEFA Europa League, the rules are similar, but with some key differences:
(1) The 8 homegrown players must include 4 trained by the club itself as youngsters (such as Hibbert and Osman). If we can't name 4 club-trained players - or 4 other homegrown players - then we just have to name a smaller squad. We're restricted to a maximum of 17 non-homegrown players in a squad of no more than 25. If we have more than 8 homegrown players, then they just take up some of the 17 non-homegrown slots. In theory, any club that can't name any club-trained or other homegrown players at all is limited to a squad of 17. That's not enough for a full eleven and the seven subs!
(2) The UEFA Europa League squad must included at least 2 goalkeepers.
(3) Any player aged under 21 who has not been with us for two years continuously cannot be named in the under-21 squad. Those players have to be registered in the 25-man squad. So, players like Lukaku, Deulofeu - even Stones - would have to be named in the senior squad.
(4) All of our other under-21 players would be registered in the UEFA Europa League under-21 squad. These players can be named the day prior to a UEFA match, although I imagine all of ours would have been registered well in advance.

Things can change during the subsequent transfer windows - and as, obviously, players go past the under-21 registration date - but that's about it.

All this talk of squad sizes and incoming transfers is fascinating, but the club has to be careful with who - and how many - could be registered in the two squads. Most senior players will be named in both 25-man squads, but there might have to be some omissions (especially from the UEFA Europa League) squad.

Any thoughts?

Agree0 Disagree0

Informative as always Sid, it's an interesting one for me because obviously you want to see homegrown talent come through, but unfortunately, it's not the quick solution most fans are hoping for and there lies the problem.

Agree0 Disagree0

My squad:
Goalkeepers: Howard, Alex McCarthy (£2m), Joel
RB: Coleman, Browning, Hibbert
CB: Stones, Bruno Martins Indi (£5m), Jagielka, Distinct
LB: Baines, Oviedo, Garbutt
Cm/CdM: Barry (Free), McCarthy, Diame(£3m), Colback (Free), Gibson
Lm: Pienaar, Carles Gil (£5m)
Rm: Mirallas, Mgeady, deulofeu (Loan)
Am: Barkley, Osman, Firmino (£8m)
St: Kone, Naismith, Bony (£20m), Batshyaui (£8m)

I feel we could afford that squad and it would be a very good and young squad!

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - looks good josh...we just need to convince bobby and bill now mate..

Firmino would be a great buy forgot about him

Agree0 Disagree0

Sorry but I understand reasoning regarding Irish clubs being non home grown, but what is the difference between Welsh and Scottish clubs as mentioned by Cowpat Sid 2, is it purely because Welsh clubs compete in English Leagues?, (hope I didn't tread in anything Cowpat!)

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - In the case of Everton, home grown refers to players who spent the required time playing for clubs under the Football Association or the Football Association of Wales before they were 21.}

Josh good list but be realistic that's 51 mill in fees if your guestimations are correct, plus god knows how much on wages. You could half that amount and be closer to our budget mate

Agree0 Disagree0

Jonno: it has to be because so many of the 'bigger' Welsh clubs choose to play in the English leagues. I can't think of any other reason. I wonder what would happen if Celtic joined the English Premier League?
Interestingly, those Welsh clubs that play in the English leagues are banned from playing in the Welsh Cup (the rules have changed back and fro over recent years) and therefore can only qualify for Europe via the English league and English cup competitions. that's what Swansea City did by winning the English League Cup last season.
Why are the football regulations so complicated these days? It must be due to the trough of TV and prize money that everyone's trying to get their snouts into :-(

hi edd 025 do u now if were still after robertston from dundee seen the dundee v aberdeen game and he does not look that good he kept loseing ball all the time and aberdeen rm kept getting past him I don't think he is good enough for premier leauge and why do we even need new lb we got ovideo and garbut who everyone seems to rate so wouldn't be a waste of million pound

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - he is only a kid bretto, and very sought after, a club with our financial restraints have to look to the future, and that means getting young players and turning them into household names, something that we are very good at mate...look at stones, £3m less than 2 seasons ago, now he must be worth £20m plus..

08 May 2014 18:34:36
basing it off one game? I watched the aberdeen game, he was very good in the first half and secknd was meh, souttar looks poor though, falls asleep, gets shoved out the way and is poor under pressure

Ed, can you do a poll please on how many people would prefer to keep this seasons badge rather then change again to this new badge. I don't know about the rest of you, but even though I hated the badge originally, its kinda grown on me and doesn't bother me as much.
Cheers ed

Did any1 else watch/ go to the awards?, I thought the auction was ridiculous, I think Osman was the only player who bidded and you could see bill telling players to bid but most of them looked away. Overall it was rather cringey to watch

Believable0 Unbelievable0

very cringey mate and the man presenting it was, well, silly, I kept saying 'get him off', he was making jokes that no one laughed at and was annoying, bill was embarrassing aswell, thought it was a joke no players bid on anything, lads on 40k a week just sat there

Can anybody explain to me why people call Everton a small club.See what really bugs me is now people call City a big club and that there bigger than us.City don't have the success Everton has were the 4th most successful club in England and yet they get called a big club.Yes they have more money than us that is a fact but why do people all of a sudden call them a big club really annoys me that. Its all Money money money with them.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed007's Note - I totally agree with you Stef. As a Celtic supporter I'm fed up reading fans from clubs like Southampton and Norwich who all of a sudden think they are big clubs because they get TV money and can spend more on fees and wages. Celtic posted over £20m in profits last year, we are one of the top clubs in Europe for match-day revenue, circa 40k season ticket holders, playing in the CL but Southampton think they are bigger than us because they signed Wanyama from us.
This season the bottom EPL team get around £60 million, Celtic got around £2/3 million for winning the league, if you take away the TV money from the EPL, Celtic would blow the majority out the water. I don't want it to happen but if Celtic got into the EPL they would be a runaway train in there and would be challenging the top teams in only a couple of seasons.
Being rich isn't enough to make you a big club IMHO, there's a lot more to it than that, history, fanbase etc all play a part in it.}

Problem is now you say that you open yourself up to the usual bitter taunts from the very people who call Everton a small club.

We are the forgotten name of English football, kids growing up today wouldn't have a clue Everton historically are one of the most successful teams in the country. I put it down to our own naivity and lack of board ambition late 80s early 90s and a certain European ban on all English clubs. We were late getting on the commercial bandwagon and have been playing catch up financially ever since. Instead of aiming towards delivering our motto the attention turned to financial survival which inevitably led to a drop in quality of the pitch.

Moyes steadied the ship and got rid of the relegation survival mentality, he had us aiming up but didn't have the game to harm the nouveau riche 'big' teams. But under Roberto we can finally respond to the small club taunts where it matters, on the pitch. We play a great brand of football, have a terrific academy, the best & most valuable squad of players for 20 years and one of the brightest young managers in the game. We have just finished 5th the year before the biggest TV payout in history of English football and good things are being said about the club from all angles.

Our club is on the march and will rise again.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - cracking post that oli..well done mate..

Have to agree Celtic is a big club with a great tradition. As we are! but its is "all about the money" just look at Leeds and Rangers they both used to be massive clubs they still have their history but neither would not be considered as a big club now. If Man City and to some extent Chelsea continue to be bankrolled, consitantly win trophies then in four or five years time they could truely be called big clubs.

Agree0 Disagree0

Cheers thanks ed for that bit of info much appreciated mate.

Because going by the post I seen on this page about the Irish you only like local fans no desire to welcome any fans outside the city liverpool know they are clobal.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - we have a lot of clobal? fans tom, and very welcome they are mate!..lots of irish and welsh, and a fair number of aussies as well, it would be wrong to suggest living in a clubs city makes you a better supporter...my apologies if i left anyone out there fellas, my memory is not what it was.. :)

It's how you feel when you travel over to Merseyside Tommy most People from the City are very welcoming and have no problem at all about were your from'yes there are pockets of fans on both sides that don't like supporters from outside of the city but thankfully they are a minority and are blinded by there own bitterness but you should feel right at home in the city cause there is a huge Irish community there both reds and blues.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - spot on stef..

I remember going to matches in the 1970s and hearing different sections of the Everton fans before the match chanting and counter-chanting 'Celtic' and 'Rangers' at each other. Anyone else recall hearing these chants? I'm not saying they were sectarian - I definitely don't want to go down that road - but there was some historical aspect to it I suspect.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - i remember it too sid..

Everton came from St domingos which was prodestant then a catholic priests became involved in the club which brought the catholic theme to Everton. Its written that young Catholics had Everton put to them and were advised against supporting Liverpool who were classed as prodestant but know one really knows for sure other than 1 match many years ago when Everton fans held up the try colour and liverpool fans held up the Union Jack but again know one can claim it to be true the only thing that is true is that both religions support both teams fact so it's not based on religion but just your love for your club I'm a Evertonian for football reasons not for religious reasons and that is that.

Agree0 Disagree0

09 May 2014 10:15:22
Well put stef religion should have no bearing on what team you support for this very reason I avoided going to Scotland to watch a celtic rangers match when being offered tickets, it's just hatred no place in sport and when you consider most of us pick our teams at a very young age to bring your child into a cauldron of hatred is not a good example is it really.I always say in the last 20 years english football has made the game much more family friendly and was amazed when nations that you wouldn't take your worse enemy to a match get to stage world cups ahead of England.

Agree0 Disagree0

In my lifetime I have seen Everton stay in the top division. However, I have seen Manchester United, Manchester City and Chelsea all be relegated to the next division down. I believe Man City even went down to the 3rd tier about 10 years ago? I have also seen big clubs like Newcastle, Sunderland, West Ham and others regularly be relegated then promoted. Liverpool and Arsenal (like Everton) have remained within the top flight. So as well as being the 4th most successful club re silverwear period., for at least the last 60 years we have been one of the strongest and consistent in the top flight.

Agree0 Disagree0

09 May 2014 12:58:32
The mid 80s liverpool Everton were the two top teams if I had to pick 1 team out the two squads it would be tough but what a team I will have a go don't mind my spelling.
