According to reports as they say Martinez got a 10M pound pay-off from Everton. Another bad decision to sign a contract with him that guaranteed full payment for the remaining period of his contract if he was sacked. Surely performance criteria should be built into any managers contract.

I see Degsy you claim to have acknowledged something I said. Not true.

Its quiet on here recently. I wonder Ed could you put up a poll. Simple question, do Everton supporters think the squad has deteriorated? Answer, Yes or No.

Put this to bed.

The squad and the club for that matter have progressed on and off the field by way of personnel IMO. We had stagnated under Moyes and lived under the glass ceiling he placed with his negativity, we then went backwards with Martinez who was the wrong man and a panic appointment. But now we have a setup on and off the pitch to move forward season by season. Is 11 years at a club and no silverware or away win at the Sky 4 success? I beg to differ.

Yes poll good Idea, we have gone forward, the only sad thing for me is we still have to sell before we bring new in?

I appreciate what Moyes done for us. He brought stability and took us out of a really poor period in our history.

However, he stayed too long. He reached a ceiling that he couldn't improve on and we should have got rid of him a long time before he left. I know people won't agree but sometimes you need fresh impetus at a club and when a manager is no longer moving you forward you need to make a change.

The problem we had was that we were always on the edge of disaster with no financial boardroom backing and a narrow business based mainly around the football and community aspect.

I don't think Moyes has much to offer other than stability. He doesn't take chances and doesn't gamble. Whether it tactics or players, he will settle for middle of the road. I'm not used to that with Everton.

In the 90's when we were on our knees Joe Royle took over our club. No talk of our limitations or what he couldn't do because of the players he had. He just didn't accept failure. We went on to win an FA Cup and finish fourth the season after.

Martinez just oozed positivity but to a degree were he was blind to any problems we had. He also had no tactical nous whatsoever.

Koeman seems more like a Royle and I'm excited by that.

As far as players go. I don't think either Manager have signed poor players. Both have signed players that I thought the team needed. You wouldn't replace Neville with an attacking number 10 like Cahill. If we have Barkley scoring 8 to 12 goals a season then you would look to bring in a McCarthy for that steel in midfield. Besic a player that could given a run in the team, be an Osman or a provider like Graveson.

There is never a point to bringing in like for like. What's the point. You want something different and new so your team is no longer predictable.

I get what Degsy is saying but it's bit one dimensional. If we get rid of a player that scores 5 we need to replace him with a player that scores 5. Sometimes, especially if you are changing the distribution and tactics in a team, you buy players to fit that model.

You could argue that the players brought in by Martinez helped us scored more goals as the stats show. Would you rather have a team score less but a couple of players score more or would you rather have a team score more goals but more to the forward players. Either way if you can't defend what's the bloody point.

Anyway they are both in the past. Let's start looking to the future.

{Ed025's Note - your spot on with moyes there john he did stay far too long, koeman does not seem the type to take "a knife io a gunfight" and im glad of that mate..

Either blue John. As long as we get results it doesn't matter how many we score or who scores them. What we need this season is to turn up against the top 5 teams, let's see if we can get points from the arsenal, man u and Liverpool games. It is those games that we need to finally put to bed.

I said the same a few days earlier on the oriGina thread that we should have done with Moyes after 4 years what West Ham did with Allardyce. But I'm behind you with the future BlueJohnUns, let's look forwards with hope and excitement that we are finally on the up again.

Koeman's press conference was brilliant today ED. Exactly the same as all the rest. Calm and positive but also highlighting areas of concern without overstating them.

He acknowledged the efforts of the board, Chairman and staff for their efforts in trying to bring in players. No signs of any frustration at all.

Just to add to my point above. In no way was I getting at the board either. Moyes may take the plaudits for performances on the pitch but it was our Chairman that stopped our club from going out of business. If we would have listened to some fans and he sold to the wrong person we could have been a Leeds, Blackburn, Portsmouth, Fulham, Reading, Aston Villa, Liverpool (days away from going bust) , Hull, Cardiff, Sunderland and many more.

I think he may have found something very special here and over the coming years see us being unrecognisable from the club of the past 25 years.

{Ed025's Note - lets hope so john, i really believe we are in a good place now and although im not expecting miracles the future looks bright, BK has taken a lot of stick over the years mate and i know he never pulled up any trees but without his leadership things could have been a lot worse as you say..

Moyes was sacked far to soon by Utd, just study his stats compared with Van Gael given the same time period.

How about chatting about the possible stadium move in light of what Joe Andserson tweeted recently?
