I'm not one to recommend the Daily Mail, but they have a story about Baines giving a season ticket to a fan. You should look at the comments. Heres an example :-

There's something really classy about Everton. Even as a fan of a direct rival, spurs, it's hard to not have a soft spot for them. If we miss out on 4th I hope they get it. They deserve it as a club. Well done Everton and Leighton.

phil neville deserves a pat on the back and a decent send off from us blues, he has been a good servant to the club and someone the players needed around in his time with us. certainly in the early stages of his stay!we all know he isn't the most skilfull of players but more than made up for that in other ways!he captained our club well for most of his stay and wasnt as bad as some supporters are making out!probably played on a year or two too long but we needed the numbers and he never hid! respect, phil! thanks!

I think with Neville leaving that could mean quite a big re-jig of the squad. In my mind we need to cover these roles:
Squad member- with our squad already very thin we can't afford for our numbers to drop especially if we are in Europe next year.
Captain- a role that he has performed admirably this will probably go to jags.
Defensive midfielder- he can't pass very well but he is good at breaking up play and tackling. Do we let someone like Lundstram fill this role or do we get someone like Fer and or lampard?
Pointer and shouter- lambast him we may for this but he's good at it and it helps.
I think that we should get in Lampard on a free at least. Someone with experience and is a great role model. After that I will let the manager decide

Believable0 Unbelievable3

Lampard wouldn't be free as he would cost a fortune in wages, and he's getting on, so no thanks!

To be fair Ed, he probably doesn't understand the word 'support'. Only us Blues know the real meaning.

Phil Neville has been an excellent servant to the club but in terms of his playing career now is the time for him to move on. I think Moyes has made that call which makes me optimistic that he may be signing another contract. I can see Neville playing for another season then maybe returning to Goodison as a coach and then the manager in the future.

Wigan v Millwall on Saturday is still unbelievable, we should have won the cup this year it was ours for the taking!

With Peanuts and Fellaini back this week would it be too much of a risk to put Mirrallas on the bench and try keep him fully fresh for Arsenal on tuesday. I know QPR will not be a match that gets handed to us on a plate but I think Moyes could rest Kev, cause I feel we should have enough there to get the 3 points and they won't park the bus as they need a win, I am just a little worried he might get injured considering he had a groin problem going into the Spurs match. I just feel with Qpr having to come out and attack us I just think we will have too much for them with the two lads back and fully refreshed, if we need to Moyes could always put him on if its not going our way. Mirralas fully rested will give the gooners back 4 a roasting considering there not the quickest in the league. Just a thought but I think we could get away with resting our Ronaldo or should I say Bale lol.

Believable9 Unbelievable3

Very Good point well made but I think we have to play our best 11 if available.

first thing is a massive thanks to phil neville. who along with david moyes has turned us into the club we are today. we are respected and professional. but I am glad neville has made this decision now but before things get to back and he is purely remembered for the bad times e. g. wigan. now is the time everton need to push on from being professional and hard to beat to a team that has flair and difficult not to lose to. also a quick couple of points. people please lay off barkley as it was the lads first start of the season against a strong spurs midfield. secondly vic played well but needs to work on his composure in training. thirdly one mistake by baines all season does not make him a bad player. and finally let's get behind the lads on saturday as I predict a lot tighter game on saturday than we would like.

Personally, I think it would be a mistake to let Neville walk out of Goodison, he has far too much experience and professionalism to be let go.

His Premier League playing days are at an end, I think we can all see that, but what he lacks in playing ability he makes up for in willingness and knowledge.

Would his name be on my teamsheet, not a`chance these days, only in desperation.

As a club captain he has conducted himself with dignity and humility, always coming across as a decent bloke who doesn`t just say things because it`s what`s expected.

He has carried himself with dignity and humility during some difficult times off the pitch.

The Rhys Jones incident, the search for Madeleine McCann and the revelations and subsequent fallout from the Hillsborough enquiry, all of these have been supported and dealt with by Phil Neville, our club captain.

Footballers nowadays seem to be a law unto themselves, but I for one am proud of the way he has always conducted himself whilst representing Everton Football Club. That is the example which needs to be passed on to future generations of players so i`d keep him at the club in some capacity.

So before you slate him because of his loss of footballing ability, just think what else he has done for our club, and glance across the park and be thankful our captain knows how to behave with dignity and what it means to represent Everton Football Club. {Ed025's Note - crackerjack of a post that fish, the club should use that as his parting speech..well done mate.

Believable18 Unbelievable5

He gets payed to play football not anything else, so you can stick your phil neville lovin where the sun don't shine. {Ed025's Note - back to your own site now, and ask the nurse to tighten the straps..

TommyGunn {Ed025's Note - me too tommy..

Agree0 Disagree0

The way I read the post is that Phil still wishes to carry on his playing career. This being the case I think we all would agree that it would be best to move to a club were he is likely to get 1st team football. I would have loved him to stay in a non fotballing capacity and I am sure every effort was made to give him the option to stay in the backroom staff. unfortunately that was not what he wanted. Good luck Phil and hopefully we will see you again at the club when the time is right.

My favourite Phil Neville memory was when he started trending on twitter as a replacement for Chuck Norris. The guy is awesome and I wish we could keep him as a non playing club captain as I think it's a role that doesn't exist but would suit him to a tee, as Gary Neville is to England, Phil for Everton. A director of players rather than football if that makes sense. Big fab of the man, great leader, great football knowledge, proper football person. He will be a manager and I think he will manage EFC one day, bug if he wishes to keep on playing good luck to him and I hope a club does not feed him a line and have him bench warming when 1st team action was promised.
Good luck Phil, they say home is where the heart is ( we know yours is old Trafford) but I say you can choose your friends but you can't choose your family, and you became part of the family so you are stuck with us mate.

Whoever maybe coming or going I hope its done early just like phil neville we know now is going. If felli wants to leave get if done early. If people like neville/felli/heitinga leave that frees up a big wedge of cash for moyes/new manager.

Just a thought - with next season being World Cup year, players who are internationals for countries likely to participate will surely want to be playing regularly for their clubs and maintain their chances of continued selection for their national squads. Maybe that's behind comments about Jelavic's future. Perhaps it'll also affect which players we can (hopefully) bring in for next season. Playing in either of the European club competitions will stretch our squad, but on the other hand it will also allow (in reality it'll force) squad rotation and give all the players a good amount of starts and game time and keep them "happy".

hi all, I can't seem but notice that victor anichebe has matured. he seems a different player/person to who he was last season, he seems more confident, determined and seems to be more professional. I remember him doing an interview saying he wants to score goals this season and stay injury free, so far, he has done so. also, over the past few seasons he seemed really lazy, but recently I've started to notice him trying even harder to win the ball and make runs around the field, he is definitely maturing. overall, I think he has been terrific this year so far

Believable9 Unbelievable5

I agree Vic has certainly been playing well recently. The lad has played where asked and now that he is injury free looks to be progressing nicely. He was one of the first names being mentioned for sale in the January window, I for one am glad he did not go as we probably would not have bought anyone else. let's hope he can provide a few more goals in our push for 4th.

Neville has been an excellent servant and captain for this club, and at times a good player. But now is the right time. Thanks for everything Phil, and that's 35k off the wage budget!

Believable11 Unbelievable4

Actually its 55k

Agree0 Disagree0

Well said, AJ, but not sure if £35k per week will be competitive as wages for good players, as other other clubs will be awash with the TV money. DM has said that he wants to know how much of be budget proposed by BK will be transfer fees, and how much for wages and signing-on payments, etc. , and, no doubt, agent commissions (they'll have their snouts in the trough that's overflowing with money). We've lost out on players to other (so-called lesser) clubs in he past because they've paid (probably unsustainable) wages and fees for them. it's ironic that European qualification will attract better players, but will require a bigger squad to cope with the number of matches. Not quite a Catch-22, but not far short :-)

I would say chris long at te moment is our best youngest who is coming up. Plus the likes of mcAleny keenedy are not to far behind him

Believable1 Unbelievable6

I haven't seen enough of these players to offer a considered opinion, but it's a massive step-up from U-18 & U-21 football to the ultra-competitive and ultra-professional demands of English top-tier football and then to playing in European competitions. If just a handful come through over the next few years, then that'll be good, but obviously we'd like a load of gems to progress and emerge.
TommyGunn

Agree0 Disagree0

Mate I think your under rating the progression of John lundstram which maybe a good thing that he can develop and not have too much expected of him. But John lundstram is a real player and I would say that if we were to promote any youth player into the first team who could quickly adapt and show maturity beyond their years I think he would be the safest bet. His range and distribution in his passing is excellent.

Agree0 Disagree0

Show some respect, it's embarrassing I support the same team as you

Agree0 Disagree0

It is somewhat ironic that the last chance Neville had of lifting some long awaited silverware whilst wearing our shirt was ended by his suicidal back pass. Echoes of Kanchelskis against Bradford. That pass also spelt the end of his career! I don't honestly think he'll be missed but I suspect big changes are afoot in the Summer. Nev has always been Moyes' blue-eyed boy. Perhaps he knows DM is doing the off? BlueTone

Agree0 Disagree0

He stayed on one season too long but that's down to moyes.
Neville has been a good captain and ambassador for the club and I certainly wish him well for the future.
wouldnt mind him as our manager in at some point down the line.

Agree0 Disagree0

I can't believe some of the disrespectful reaction to Phil Neville deciding to move on. Hang on - knowing the fickle nature and fantasy notions of some of our fans, actually I'm not surprised. They're entitled to express their opinions, as long as they're not offensive, but I think Neville's overall contribution to Everton has been overwhelmingly positive - it's just disappointing that he probably stayed in the first team too long - but that's surely a sign of how limited our squad is.

All the Neville haters have otten their wish, Neville leaving us at the end of the season.

Personally I would have liked to have kept him on the coaching staff.

Conspiracy theorists will be linking this to possibly Moyes going now too

Degsy

Believable5 Unbelievable3

Would of liked him as a coach but I think his playing days for us were over last season. Good luck Skip. Rob Walker

Agree0 Disagree0

NO thanks, don't get close to our coaching staff, give him a few years of coaching elsewhere, and then maybe consider it.

Agree0 Disagree0

Agree0 Disagree0

09 Apr 2013 13:58:09
Third poster, I think he is qualified enough to coach, 11 years under SAF and 8 years under Moyes, more experience than most

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree with Degsy, I would have liked him to stay on in a coaching capacity. His attitude is spot on and he has a fair amount of knowledge that would have been very benefical to the youth players.

SA90

Agree0 Disagree0

We probably don't have any more room in the coaching staff for yet another ex-player. That's a pity, as he's a great example as a professional, but I think it's actually the fact that he clearly also wants to carry on playing regular first team football, which was no longer on the cards here, that has led to him deciding to move on.
So, just as with Tim Cahill, thanks for all his contributions and all the best for the future.

I think Mr Anichebi is turning into the player we all thought he could be when he was about 17. Has really matured, uses his power and pace a lot more. Looks a threat in every game, does not sulk when things are going against him but most of all he is putting in a real shift. Keep it up Victor.

Believable7 Unbelievable4

Just wish he had more composure in front of goal, could be another Hesky type stiker

Agree0 Disagree0

Just goes to show that the club's coaching staff knew he had something in him. imagine if those knee-jerk boo-boys amongst our fans had driven him out a few years back. DM is by no means perfect, but he clearly knows about football and about players. None of the knee-jerk boo-boys have ever coped with being professional football managers and coaches - but I respect their right to voice their opinions, as long as they're not offensive. I just don't happen to agree with them on some issues - especially Anichebe. Keep up the good work, Victor.
