That's the best summer of signings I've seen, I know season not started yet but there is something different with our approach this time Marcel Brands work over that last few weeks has proved what a great negotiator he is considering he only just started World Cup going on and knowing has to get quality in. Imagine what he can do now when he can have a full season and approach next window. Well done to all Everton staff at the club.
The defence is being repaired after years of neglect.

This did get me thinking, Sam Allardyce commented earlier on Sky Sports News that we now have too many wide players? He has a valid point and I do agree to a certain extent (never thought I'd say that) . However I do not know what formation the team will be using or how the team will play to say any different. More options are better than none surely?

Some of those wide players can also play upfront or just behind the front man so a good balance if you ask me. Fat Sam is only bitter (albeit he has 6million reasons not to be)

He actually dropped Williams like a stone. He used the resources as best he saw fit and recognised the amount of No 10s not only gave Everton a positional problem but also an ego one. The Club were in no amount of excrement prior to his arrival and within a few days he made us difficult to beat and in the end took us to 8th. I to would not like him as a long term Manager but we now have a Manager renowned for not staying anywhere long and with no substantial CV in the Premiership.

Lookman can play wide or inside both flanks, Richarleson can play wide or inside. Part of the reason that Walcott came to us is that Alardyce promised him, he could have his preferred roaming the line role. The new little Brazilian can play wide or cut and thrust through the middle. Sometimes these so-called experts let things get away from them. One of the best bits of business for me, we have done today is inadvertantly holding onto Besic, injury free the job that lad did for Middlesborough was the reason we originally signed him and if he remains injury free, we will have some player.

Im not sure where this leaves Vlasic, Sandro will probaly be one of 4 Strikers all though there is a real possibility he will go back to Spain again on loan, as I think Silva does rate him. for some reason. but my God what a day it's been. Welcome Mr Mina, Gomes, Bernard ( I keep calling him Bernardo for some reason) and Hopefully Mr Zouma. That defence looks 10times more solid now :)

I'm not going to change my expectations for this season. Top 10 with a chance to take a faltering top 6 side maybe.

It will take time for these to gel and get used to each other plus the system. However, there should be no-one here disappointed in this window.

Just look at what we bought in the last window. Not all but players like Cuco, Vlasic and Klassen are replaced with Digne, Bernard and Gomes.

All the players we've signed are from a different category. All signed in places we needed strengthening. Finally, we have a structure at the club that all seem to have the light bulb switched on and have delivered a window that is easily the best we've ever had in the EPL.

It is going to take time. Plenty of time and another couple of windows but my, what a start to this new regime.

Absolutely amazing deadline day! . I went from fearing a relegation battle a week ago to being cautiously optimistic of a top 6 finish.

Ive been a sub of theirs since around 100 suns so it was Bloody boss to see Toffie tv on sky sports news aswell and having a dig a big sam whilst he was on was hilarious as well lol

Great day and great work by Brand and Silva and co. Might take some time for all these to gel but it will be up up up and away once they do. Whether we go to the games or not let's get behind the management and team. If the players can't hear what we say they can read what we say. Let's be positive this season and give them the encouragement they did not get last season.

bw2412v2.0, please tell me what we have achieved so far? Whilst I understand the excitement of a few new players, we had exactly the same last season and were all excited then. Yes I am especially pleased that we signed Zouma (or appear to have if the paperwork is approved by the FA) . I am not sure about Mina. He may be brilliant. he may not. Same with Gomes and Bernard. I have no idea of the quality of these two. Whether they can cut it in the Premiership? Same was said to me when we signed Klaasen last season. Sandro Ramirez was another. I am NOT saying we have made bad signings. I am saying I will wait and see. The other point is that we already had Digne. So that is throwing together potentially 5 new players into a team. I think that will be expecting too much for them to gel initially. A few dodgy results may follow and fans need to be patient.

No Smit. I did write another reply because Ed thought I was not happ y too. I am very pleased with the signings. I am just keeping a bit of a lid on it because I felt the same last season when it looked like we were signing some quality players. until Giroud listened to his wife. I am sure we would have been better with him and if Jags and Coleman and Baines not got injured. But anyway I am happy even if the post above sounds like I am not. I will be happier when I know Zouma is signed and also when we win some games I will be even happier. Because that's what really counts. winning games :-)

{Ed002's Note - To be fair the transfers for Everton have been pretty good, maybe not spectacular and an oddity or two, but I think the fans should be pretty happy. Assuming there are no issues with Work Permits and International Clearance, the club need to work very hard in the coming weeks to integrate the players. I think a brand new centre back pairing will need the most concentration. Zouave may not look it, but he is pretty smart, is very adaptable and will slot in easily. Yerry Mina is a completely unknown quantity and well outside his comfort zone. There is a vast amount of pressure due to his being thrown in to the limelight. So please give him a bit of a break.}

Ed025, I am happy that we have signed some players. but reading some posts you would think we were winning the title already. Yes of course I am pleased particularly that we have 2 younger center backs which as you know is what I always wanted. A left back too. Zouma is not yet announced so it might yet be only one center back? Ed002 says we will probably have to wait until tomorrow. As for the quality of the signings. we will have to wait. We will also have to be patient regarding bedding them all in. 5 new players is half the outfield team. If they are the quality everyone seems to think, then we should have no problems. So yes I am much happier than a couple of hours ago. Maybe my posts read differently to how I mean them? When someone sort of says to me see what we can achieve. well that does suggest to me that we have achieved something great. in reality we have some new players just like last season. I am not qualified enough to say whether they are a higher standard than last seasons signings (when we did a similar thing and everyone was wax lyrical about those signings. until a few games in) . But yes Happy I am. :-)

With Degsy on this Ed025. We were all ecstatic (including yourself mate) same time last season. The difference this Window is that signings and positions appear to have been targetted. The pessism (if such) is Mina, 28/ 30 Mill is a lot of money it appears to me based on a goal scored against England. Had we heard of the guy before that goal? The others I know about, Bernard has looked a very good player but in this League it depends where you play him. Myself I was very fit and very quick but small in stature, football I could play through the attacking midfield or on the flanks, defence was a problem, likewise rugby they put me out wide and depended on my ability to lay the ball off.

Consider our potential starting eleven. Only Coleman remains from the end of 2016 and the RM era. Overall the quality is better than 2 years ago (other than that Lukaku fellow) .

I’m encouraged.

By the way, I have a hard time with the phrase “deadwood”. Any player that has been listed in that category is certainly in the top 5 percent of professional footballers worldwide. Unless a player is obviously lazy or unfit or unmotivated, a less harsh phrase is needed.

How about a less caustic phrase, like “surplus” instead.

What’s the situation with Calvert-Lewin? Is he part of Silva’s plans? The lad really impressed me last year and I think he has a lot to offer whilst also improving. I remember there being interest in him from Bournemouth but I think that fell away quickly. Is he the reason that we haven’t pushed to sign another striker? Perhaps Brands and Silva see him as more than adequate to rival Tosun for the top spot.

Mina, Gomes (loan) and Zouma on loan would be a fantastic deadline day but would be happy with just Mina. Others joining would surely mean selling/ loaning others (Schneiderlin? Pennington? Besic? ) post-deadline day in UK.

Saying all that, the dream would probably be Mina + Deondecker. Apparently Wolves have agreed 18m fee for him - so he's not ludicrously expensive, plus can cover CM, CB and FB positions.

Will trust whoever Brands and Silva go for though!

OK, so I'm sitting here in Thailand and the champagne is on ice ready to celebrate each one of our signings today - double if its a central defender.

It's a shame much of our business has come down to the last day but it is indicative of where we currently stand - we are dependent on what happens in other teams rather than being the first choice for players. Hopefully that will change as we grow back to where we once were as a club.

I'm fully expecting to get a bit pissed today but just want to thank Marcus and Marco now as I believe they have worked tremendously hard this window and however many we get today it's still been an exciting window for me as a supporter.


The really hard work starts tomorrow, trying to bed in the new signings and only 2 days before the season starts. We as supporters might need to be a bit patient over the next month or so and SUPPORT the club and management (that's why we are called supporters)


Anyway, let enjoy the day and the promise of what's ahead

Morning bw enjoy Thailand. I’m not at all concerned with the signing be late in the window. Last season we did mostly of our business very early and signed a handful of players within the first couple of weeks of the window and our season was a shambles, players had weeks to settle in and manager to work with them and we could stop conceding goals.
I think where we are as a club will be battling for signing s with established champions league teams and missing out on some but winning the race for others. Personally I’m happy with that. as long as we do sign a few quality players today!
