Well, I've just been having a read of the comments. I expected the line up we had, with maybe the exception of Schneiderlin thought maybe Tom Davies, but then you have to think Schneids more experience less likely to be rash were maybe Marco's thoughts. You can't be right all the time!
So how do you start, with what you know,
DCL played the majority of pre season, Tosun just come back from injury and has played about 1/ 2 a game, Moise arrived this week no pre season with us and you need to ease him in, so DCL is the obvious choice coupled with he is one of our squad that isn't in the sale window and he is a young man that needs to be managed.
Do you crush his confidence by dropping him so you can play an untested, untried 19 year old in the premier league who may also not speak English very well.
No you play safe with what you know and try not to lose your first game, which is away from home and hope that your team that finished strong last season gets the win.
Let's get a bit of the season under our belts and encourage the squad and let the new lads settle in .
Now everyone calm down, wind your necks in and cheer the f. k up, there used to be an old saying win all your home games and draw all you away games and you'll win the league, I know that's not true these days but you would have 78 points come May, which if offered I'd take right now.
COYB and confusion to the other lot

Great post and I agree.
Some may not think this of me but what I say here is not what I say at the match. If DCL plays Saturday I will cheer him and hope he does well but afterwards will let rip here there is a time and place for everything, now let's beat Watford.

I agree DC, if you said at the match what you say here you'd most likely be run out of Goodison.
Personally I like to stay consistent with my views rather than change them depending on personnel.

As much as I like a healthy debate and often do disagree with DC. I have to say I agree with him about DCL. I am desperate for the lad to do well, but unless his movement in the box improves he won’t, and I could see him losing his place and not getting it back.

Agree with that dark clouds, dirty washing and all that.

He has had well over two seasons, how long do you give a player and make exceptions like Calvert is still young, he holds the ball up well.

Two things you need from a striker is scoring and running and creating space, Calvert has neither at the moment.

If we are going for just one striker then Lewin is not the striker, however if we play two forwards then who knows.

At this moment in time, Silva is playing one striker, we either go 4-3-3 or 4-4-2 to include another striker, or we drop Calvert.

DCL is struggling. We all know that.

Silva can chuck him on the scrap heap like some of the posters on here or he can try and give him some confidence by giving him the number 9 shirt and keep working on him. I think he was right not to immediately replace him with Kean who had only been with the team a couple of days due to the inordinately long amount of time it took to do his paperwork and medical.
Having said that I am also sure he is telling DCL he needs to score more if he is to keep his place. He is not too young anymore. Kean is young and scores goals, Rooney did, Rashford (same age) is doing it. Lots of young players are or have done it.

I think Kean will get the nod this Saturday but please get off DCL's back - he is working his socks off and wants to score more than we want him to

Just want to remind everyone Ducksflysouth is the same person as Billscrocodiletears who said the other day he was leaving the site for a while

Happy to see him now posting as DFS as we need differing views but wish he was open that he is BCT posting as another user.

Sounds like DC suffers from multiple personality disorder. Life and soul of the party at the match supporting his team to the hilt but as soon as the final whistle blows turns into a miserable old git and anything positive about the team sticks in his throat and chokes him

There are pills you can take DC.

Whilst I don't agree with a lot of what DC says. If he can't vent his frustrations on a Banter forum, where is he supposed to vent them?

He goes to matches, supports his team, and when he feels like they are not performing he comes here to vent. Fine by me.

My only wish is that he and others give the season a chance before getting to upset! But if they don't want to wait, its still up to them at the end of the day.

Well said EFCONE. Think sometimes comments I and other 'miserable sods' post, are lost in translation. As most others I go to all home games. Yes I get frustrated even annoyed, yes I disagree with Silva's appointment, but at the game you will not hear me booing or criticising, staff or team.

I think we will see DCL phased out slowly and once Keane is up to speed will be out starter no9.

DCL will still have his games to play like City and Liverpool away when we need someone to hassle the defenders.
