Where do we see Calvert Lewin's future? He has bags of pace, good control and works hard but doesn't shoot and when he does he usually misses and he's too nice on the pitch.

Do we sell him because he's not good enough right now? Do we keep him because we think he will develop into a good striker for us? Do we buy another striker in the summer and loan him out and see how he does?

I just don't know. I hope he can become a good striker because he has the talent but will he ever develop a killer instinct as a forward?

Good to see you Swan.

He’s young and he will not learn to shoot on the bench. He needs a loan, maybe League One where he can start a whole season and spend time shooting and developing confidence. If he can’t elevate that part of his game, then we can keep looking for a striker next year.

I’d keep Tosun as a back up striker.

I think he has a big future and that big future is at Everton. His hold up play is exceptional, his work rate good and I've seen him clatter opposition defenders so I don't think he is too nice on the pitch

However he's in a trough at the moment that most strikers go through where goals have dried up and his confidence is beginning to be affected by it and he is freezing at fairly simple chances.

Silva will be working on him in training to regain that confidence.

This season, with Kean coming in at only 19, Tosun and Niasse not delivering, we need him and he is a key member of the squad/ team.

We can also help him through this barren period that, I repeat, all strikers go through, by showing our support when he plays for us.

Let's hope he puts one in via his shin or his hip, his back (I don't care) and the confidence returns.

Keep him and make him work more with big Dunc.

I hope he does develop into a good striker but I think it's generous to call it a barren speed ll. He's not scored many goals since he first broke into the team! A barren spell would suggest he's banged them in at some point!

I hear you Toffee Davey. He only scored 6 goals last season but he was in and out of the starting eleven initially and played some of his games out on the wing. Ironically his 'barren spell' was in 8 games at the end of the season where he started every game and we had possibly our best spell as a team. Although he didn't score he contributed enormously to the way the team played so let's give him that

I agree he, and the team, need to score more and Silva/ Brands are aware of that which is why they have gone out and signed Kean and, to a lesser extent, Iwobi.

Time will tell with DCL but I think he has a bright future and hope that future is with Everton.

Guys don't forget DCL started in MF so is still learning the ropes as a Striker. Shooting on site isn't part of his natural game so will need more development. I think he will come good though. He is definitely a work in progress but time is on his side. I think he will improve training with Kean as he is a natural from what i have seen, Tosun and Dunc not so much. If that side of his game does improve he will be a good player to keep.

Goal scoring is a natural instinct and something cannot be coached, many have said this and I think is largely true.
DLC is a hard working fast consistant player but he is not a natural goal scorer at this level. I feel in the championship he can maybe get 15 goals a season but not in the prem, I feel we should sell him sooner rather than later but I do like the lad. I would hate to have to tell him he is not quite good enough it is a pity but that's life.

Hate to say folks but DCL for me is a ‘Marcus Bent’, I would even go to say a poor mans Marcus Bent but that will only be proven with time. He tries ✔️, he runs ✔️ Has pace ✔️ holds the ball up ✔️ But his goal scoring record is not befitting for a club with the aspirations we have along with giving him our no 9 jersey. Now I hope that he proves me wrong I really do but him and Tom Davies for me need to kick on to that next level which I feel a lot of the Everton youngsters seek to find most difficult to do 🤷🏼‍♂️.

I put Dcl in the Garbutt, Dowell, bracket, we can see something that wants us keep hold of these players and season after season say they are getting there.

We find reason to justify keep trying or loaning them out.

For all the nice things about Dcl, he just does not have that killer instinct in front of goal and does not get into the right positions.

If we are going to stick with one striker system, then a Dcl is not that player.

If he had only had the odd game here and there we could reason more game time.

He has had 5 years at Sheff Utd and Everton playing for the first team, how many more years do you give him.

I personally think after 5 years, you should see at worst an average goal return from a player.

If we want to try for the top 6 then for me, we need to find a striker with a better goal return.

16 Aug 2019 15:55:28
I do think he's too nice, you never see him create space for a shot or just try and run at someone. Lukaku when given space would take defenders on, so do people like Rashford etc. Dom will get space and pass if gently along, he won't try to bully defenders or scare them with his pace. The only time he uses his pace is when a ball is played through to him and no one is around. I want to see him charge past people but he never does. His goals are always tap ins from passes across the box, he very rarely goes past anyone even though he has the ability to do so.

16 Aug 2019 21:19:33
Tosun would score more given the same game time.

17 Aug 2019 02:50:46
I agree toffee, gets the odd game from the bench, had he had as many starts as Calvert, I’ve no doubt he would have at least hit double figures.

17 Aug 2019 08:56:03
For me he lacks one key element that all top strikers have. Anticipation, he is often caught ball watching as a cross comes in, and his movement in the box is limited. Dare I say it back in the day Rush was a great exponent of this A’s was Lineaker. They read the game well and always looked to get in front of the defender. Something DCL struggles to do.

{Ed025's Note - i think thats fair comment woburn mate..

With the players the club have brought in, perhaps an improvement in DCL performance will be seen. Give him this season to work at his game and at the end of the season the coach and fans ask the questions
Has he scored more goals
Has he improved his performances personally and as a team player.
If the answer is YES, then keep him, if the answer is NO then sell.
With Ferguson on the coaching I would expect him to give some advise more on the physical side rather than the skilful side.
Other players have made the grade when getting to his age eg Rashford, Kane, etc but perhaps what he needs most is a kick up the backside.

There is a long list of excellent centre forwards who have played for Everton who are all remembered with memories by the fans. The question he needs to be asked is “ do you want to join that list”. If so do the business on the pitch.
