Let's not forget the main problem with Arteta - the fact he wouldn't come.
He is nailed on for city job in 3-4 years - why would he blot his blueprint with us?
History tells you that our recent managers don't do too well after they join/ leave us.
As much as I can't stabd Silva - and want him out - realistically we need proven PL manager over a number of years. Ppl available - and possibly might come (and not all popular)
Benitez - doubt he'll come to us
Jose - think he will be looking at Madrid / ? Spurs
Dyche - could do a good job but he would be lynched by our fans like Sam Allerdyce
Howe - probably most realistic and my preferred choice
Moyes - maybe will become an option 2nd half of season forca short period if we are nearing a relegation battle.

Agree4 Disagree0

Benitez is more than qualified . I agree with you on not coming etc.
Jose imo Wouldn't and won't be available to us.

Dyche my preferred choice before SA got the Job. still like him tbh.

Mr Edward Howe yep! he would be perfect for us I suppose. is he fancied upstairs though?

Moysey Not for me lacks gravitas these days methinks

Marcelo Gallardo looks very interesting . he seems to be a multiple plan type of manager?

25 Sep 2019 14:00:49
Why are people still talking like we are in the market for a manager? Unless things don't improve results wise, FM isn't going to sack Silva. All this talk is a bit premature.

25 Sep 2019 14:13:31
I guess you have a valid point Bluepotato mate, and I would be loath to argue about it at this stage of the season,
Here's the thing, when fans desert a stadium while the game is on there has to be a collective motive, a common denominator?

25 Sep 2019 14:49:47
eddie how sean dyche and david moyes, deary me wheres the ambition, shocking.

25 Sep 2019 15:18:40
I love the ''ambition' sentiment mate, what are your aspirational thoughts then? hopefully electrifying and not shocking?

25 Sep 2019 15:41:09
Whether we like Silva or not. We will have to get worse before the club decide to get rid. The alternatives being mentioned won’t make much difference. Some will make us worse.

Silva will be given time for sure and whatever happens at City will count for nothing. He’ll be here until Christmas in my opinion. I can’t see any change until then. If things get better in the meantime, which I’m sure they will, then he’ll be given the season at least.

25 Sep 2019 16:08:39
I totally agree with you re City Ace, There are probably 2 teams in the PL that he can have a free swing at and they are one of them !
The rest are going to be individually scrutinised without mercy every time, the honeymoon period is over mate!
I hope he can last the course, honest I do!

25 Sep 2019 17:37:07
Benitez-Proven winner, seen people say he was awful at Newcastle which is a massive load of rubbish. I think he would come here, his family still live here and he's a wonderful human being too so I'd like him.

Mourinho-Unlikely, doubt he goes to Spurs though, we are more likely.

Dyche-No thank you, wouldn't be an improvement at all, weak mentally if we got him.

Howe-A young attack minded manager who usually finishes bottom half of the table, concedes a LOT of goals, can't defend, talks well but also seems secretly full of himself. Now which former Everton manager does he remind me of. oh yeah Roberto Martinez. This would be another weak appointment with no ambition.

Moyes-Hahahaha mate we really may aswell just retire as a club.

Gallardo or Benitez please. If not then Jose or the Leipzig manager.

Anyone else? Get in the bin.

25 Sep 2019 18:09:36
Leipzig boss (nagelsmann) is the one but he only joined this summer and is destined for the very top jobs.

25 Sep 2019 20:02:43
Blue247, I don't expect a knee-jerk reaction from FM any time soon to be honest. There is a lot of our fan base who seem to have high expectations just because there has been an influx of cash which, to me, are a little unrealistic right now. Walking out of the stadium when your team is getting beat is nothing new so I don't expect it to have much of an impact.
Don't get me wrong, if things don't improve and fans leaving early, in their droves, becomes the norm then I'm sure the board will look at it and act accordingly. Right now is not that time though, despite what a lot of fans think.
What people need to get into their heads is the fact that we are in a transitional period, whether we like it or not. At the minute we are weaker than we were last season because we lost Zouma and Gana. Gomes is injured, Gbamin is injured and the other new signings are bedding in. Once those players are fit again and the others are getting used to their new surroundings then I think we will kick on. A new cb in january is a must plus another cf as I expect Tosun to leave and we can't rely upon Kean and DCL for goals. It's been said on here many times by many people, we just need to be patient!

25 Sep 2019 20:13:18
Benitez was rubbish at Newcastle. This isn’t opinion it’s Fact (little Benitez saying there) . Don’t care where his family live, it’s unimportant. I don’t know him so can’t comment on him as a human being. He’s not for me based on this fact and that he decided on China. The place where you go when your knees are shot but the money’s great.

25 Sep 2019 20:38:19
I appreciate the time and trouble for your considered reply mate, and I am not expecting anything drastic at this time myself, however I will not defend what I see as a futile effort for my beloved cub on the contrary I want to say I'm a bit piss ed off instead.

25 Sep 2019 20:56:05
To answer a few of those questions - I did say managers that would come to us.
Neggelsmann and Gallardo will not as we cannot - this for the same reason I didn’t mention Klopp or Pepe

Blue Patotoe and Toffe Ace - Moshiri has had x3 managers since 2016 - (4 if you count unsworth which I don’t) so I see no evidence as to why you think he will stay with Silva. He has history of sacking managers who don’t perform.

Swan - howe does concede a lot but they also score a lot - more than us and Wolves last season - highest scorers outside top 6. But that would need to improve

Realistically we are a mid table club with champions league delusions - we are not going to attract the best players or the best managers. Our most successful managers have been Moyes and Royal of recent times - both relied on hard working players and Goodison behind them - if Dyche was given backing I’m sure he could get us going - but because he’s not fashionable and Spanish we won’t toich him. Instead we will all want the likes of Gallardo who I doubt most of us never heard of this time last year.
Personally I’m sick of foreign managers bringing in expensive overpriced rubbish and talking utter dross - we are in danger of being the new Watford.

25 Sep 2019 22:41:42
I think the fact that FM has had to splash out millions to past managers, and taking into account the chase involved getting Silva as his man, will mean he won't be in a panic to dispose of him just yet.
Martinez was a dead man walking for a good while, Moshiri never pulled the trigger quick enough imo.
Koeman had lost the dressing room and the fans, he needed putting out of his misery. There is a similarity between him and Silva in the sense that some fans are calling for his head this early in the season. Although, under RK, we never really looked like getting anything from any game in the final weeks of his tenure. Right now, we are at least attacking the opposition. There is still a lot of room for improvement in certain areas but I believe this is a better squad than RK's.
Fat Sam isn't even worth mentioning. He was brought in the last time the board panicked, another reason why I think they won't be so hasty now, as a stop-gap appoinment. I don't believe he was anything other than a safe pair of hands to steer the club through the season.
We are in danger of becoming the next Watford if the board sack Silva soon. We need stability, we need to get the injured players back to fitness and on the pitch, we need the team to start performing to their real potential and we need to strengthen the defence come January.
At this moment, I just don't see why some see us as a club in crisis. It's early days and we can get back to the levels we were playing towards the tail of last season.

{Ed002's Note - My thought is you are trying to justify the past regardless of what happened.}

25 Sep 2019 23:08:39
Well based on all the great things he's done for the city and stuff and having met him, he's great. Not sure how he was rubbish when he had a championship level team and kept them up comfortably.

26 Sep 2019 04:51:24
In Benitez's first 10 games in the Premiership last season they got 3 points from 3 draws. Imagine if that was our start. He ended up keeping them up comfortably as Swan said

What's the lesson to be learned? The fans kept supporting him and even a pretty poor owner in Ashley kept supporting him and he proved their faith right. Maybe we should think of that when we think about Silva.

I think that Benitez, if he still wanted to win things, should have left Newcastle years ago. Maybe he was proving his loyalty to the city and its fans but is wasn't ambition to win things that kept him there

The final nail in his coffin for me was when he left and went to China. I've lived in Asia Pacific which included many trips to China, one of the countries I ran. It is not a place I would have wanted to live in and the standard of football, even with all the players they have brought in is not good. Benitez went because his ambition has gone and he wanted a big payday

Knowing what I know of China he might well be rueing his decision and might welcome a move to the UK but personally I stopped considering him once he made the decision to go.

26 Sep 2019 05:44:26
Sobs, if he’s quick on the trigger, then why didn’t he sack him in February last season when we were struggling? Moshiri has shown that he’s prepared to be patient this time. I struggle to see a replacement that will get us top six. He has proven he can get a team to click. My annoyance is that there is another lull when we should be kicking on from end of last season. I’m not pro Silva but I think Moshiri is and that if he wasn’t as I’ve said, he’d have been moved on last season when we were in worse shape than we are now.

25 Sep 2019 23:29:02
That's not the intention, ed002. As I said, I just don't see the panic and I believe the board will give Silva more time unless future results make his position untenable.

26 Sep 2019 07:27:28
The stats speak for themselves - 3 managers in less than 4 years - I don’t see how you can not accept that.
You would like to think he will be patient but there is nothing to back that up.
Any case I’ve been too negative last few posts. - great draw in the cup. Really hope we win and get into semi / final - that would be one aim of the season complete.

No more negative posts from me for a while - COYB!

26 Sep 2019 10:20:34
The problem, as i see it, is that Silva will hit another vein of form and get us playing some lovely football only to hit another horror streak like this one. It's great that we get a spell of promise that fuels our ambition but we will not be able to progress beyond where we already are because of these blips.

I do like Silva and i feel like he will again give us a respectable league position in the end, but if we want to step up as a challenger for top 4 then we need someone abit more ruthless, prepared to bench the underperformers and let them know that nobody has a guaranteed starting spot. Hopefully that would eliminate these lacklustre performances often seen by the likes of Sig, Richarlison etc.
We have some very good players, we just need a manager who can get them firing on a more consistent basis.

26 Sep 2019 10:54:55
I like that post Worcester mate, I will add though that the 'fabulous' performances MS and his team produced last season (at times) are not on the horizon just yet and I agree with you it's consistency and identity which kind of eludes his managerial capabilities, and that really concerns me very much so .
