Imo VAR needs a big review or even scrapping all together. Mina's disallowed goals was, well . ( a word I can't post on here lol) and the corner that nearly lead to their goal. Wtf was that all about? .

Why can't the var team just give the ref a quick word and say you got that wrong. Free kick to Everton.

Shocking imo and definitely needs looking at for next season.

Its surprising we won yesterday Sir Loin we have had to beat Wedt Ham, VAR and the ref.
All were shocking.

Just as mysterious was the fact that minas 'goal' was n't shown on motd. normally it would be a discussion point.

Not surprising we won as we played well (in attack) . If we had taken our chances then we would/ could have played with more assurance. Equally though in the euphoria of a good performance and first win after a four game loss, we should not forget our defence if not woeful is naive especially at set pieces. Zonal marking for this group does not work, how many times did the ball sail past Keane for instance. Those in doubt watch the game back.

The zonal marking thing was done to death last season. Didn't we then go something like 22 games without conceding from a set piece?

The loss of Zouma and new additions to the squad means Marco has had to almost start again with most of the players.

The thing is, teams concede from set pieces whether its zonal or not. Our defense showed at the back end of last season that we are solid, what we need to do is get back to that level again. We also need the attack scoring to relieve the pressure from the defense.

If this bunch can do that then we can emulate last seasons performances. If not, then Marco won't get a third season.

Exellent performance yesterday, new system, new style long may it continue. Bringing Davies in a local lad with heart looking so good with Gomez dominating midfield. Wallcott looking good because he got the right service, the whole team was energised
Will Silva change perminantly or revert to old ways, has he learned?
One spring does not make a summer still want him out as most do but let's see what he does next.

{Ed025's Note - it was our best performance for some time DC and was brought about by the introduction of davies and gomes, the ball was moved forward and at pace and as good a player as siggy is you dont get that from him, my big worry is that we may return to type against brighton and see siggy back in alongside morgan or delph, if he does then silva will get exactly what he deserves, the crowd were fantastic yesterday and it was because we played the football we all want to see, long may that continue but im not holding my breath as they say mate..

He came on and scored a good goal but one of the main positives was that Sig wasn't playing. We played with 4 wingers and had a lot more balance to the team. We were a lot sharper and a much more of an attacking threat. The passing paly was crisp. The team was fluid and creative rather than static and unimaginative. Davies was brilliant, a lot of players were but he stepped up to the plate yesterday. No Sig moving forward please. Will be a quality option off the bench. One thing is that DCL and Moise Kean were not playing and there were actual chances in the game.

Ed, I personally think the away matches are the key to Marco's survival, he needs to keep clean sheets and/ or bring as many points back to Goodison home matches as is physically possible!
Only then will this team play with the swagger and intent we witnessed yesterday.

{Ed025's Note - we need to play with the intensity and passion of yesterday in every game 247 thats the key, i dont want us to revert back to boring slow defensive football whether we are at home or away mate..

nice reply DC let's hope you have the opportunity for many more this season.

If Siggy wants to play then why not cycle him with Gomes?
They have the same attributes, they are slow but have good ball control and retention, don't mind being under pressure from opposition players, get around the park and can pick passes others players can't see.

21 Oct 2019 08:42:34
Echo all the positives made. When you have players of pace, ability and constantly interchanging, (the top two in particular do this very well) the opposition have difficulty countering. let's hope our Manager/ Coach realises how positive and effective his changes for this game were and emphasis it to the players.
