Have not posted for ages. I hope this does not upset too many? Allardyce was brought in because we were haemorraging goals like a broken sieve. He tightened us up but the football was so bad to watch. This was because we had allowed our squad to age under Martinez. Jags was a 1st choice center half and we added Williams to it. Terrible choice. Baines was also at the end of his career and nothing was done about him. So Allardyce did what was expected and kept us up. When Silva took over he made some astute signings but it was clear to me that letting Jags go, Williams go and Holgate etc out on loan left us pretty weak at the back. Zouma back to Chelsea too. So we signed Mina. From what I have seen, both him and Keane are just not good enough. Maybe ok for a lower mid table team but certainly not good enough for EFC. When you go out and concede 2 goals every game, you have to score 3 to win. I know that sounds like I am being silly, but we look ok in most games. then concede and concede again. That is the defence allowing that. I saw Keane for England look terrible. I saw Mings play and look awesome? Anyway our problems are defending. Simple as that. Allardyce back? No way. But the chequebook needs to be out for Christmas or I fear we will go down. One center half at least needed.

{Ed047's Note - as you’re currently 5th from bottom I assume you are a lower/mid table team so those players should be fine.

It’s not like you’ve mentioned the possibility of relegation or anything! 🤷‍♂️😉

I agree our defence is poor midfield should be better attack is woefull, west ham was a fluke but a showing on what this team should be. I'd take moyes back till end of season at this rate, and I never thought I'd ever say that. The pattern for rest of season looks bleak we will win a game look like potential world beaters, only to look like a local pub team for next 3 or 4 games.

Upset about your post degsy not at all agree mate something in that club needs changing and changing fast.

Ed047 We are 5th from bottom. The table doesn't lie. Not at the end of the season. Right now we deserve to be where we are like you say and as yet had an easy run of games. I do fear our football is pretty, entertaining but won't win us games. because we concede like schoolboys.

{Ed047's Note - I was pulling your leg degsy, personally think Silva was a big mistake and the board need to get rid for me.

Don’t think he’s going to take you anywhere to be honest.

I still think that FM and the board employing SA was a knee jerk reaction, no team has ever been relegated in November but, that said, we needed to stop the rot. The football that season was shocking and the reason I gave up my season ticket. I've not regretted that decision so far to be honest.
I think Silva is a dead man walking, losing a few on the bounce and winning one game, no matter how well they played, isn't anywhere near good enough. Watford, ironically, could be the game that gets him the sack. If not, there are plenty of games against tougher opposition coming up that will rpobably see him gone.
MK has been poor for club or country whenever he hasn't got someone to talk him through the game and that's shocking for an international player. One mistake and his confidence drains dramatically and then, consequently, he makes more of them. He needs replacing imo.
Neither Brands or Silva like buying in January but I think you're right with your assessment, Degsy, we need to bring in reinforcements in the next window or we could find ourselves in dire trouble. A forward who knows where the net is and a few defenders are needed urgently!

The point I was trying to make is Silva inherited a squad that has improved in most areas but we have a void defensively. We concede so many stupid goals. Allardyce was sorting that but entertainment was zero. Now we have a forward thinking manager but we lost our central defence over a few seasons and the last transfer window should have addressed it. Mina was the wrong addition and we should have added at least 1 more.

Good to hear from you Degsyp
Whilst I agree withu that we are conceding too many goals I don't think it is fair to put all the blame on the back 5.

We should be attacking and defending as a team. Too often we are caught in possession or give away possession with bad passes from our midfield or attackers. Too often we do stupid fouls close to our penalty area and either we don't defend the free kicks properly or the free kicks are taken quickly and the midfield is overrun

We also don't score enough which puts extra pressure on the defence. I agree we shouldn't need to score 3 a game but going ahead more often early in the game would be nice

I'd also say that so far this season Mina has been far better than Keane so I think he (Keane) needs to up his game. At the moment I'd play Holgate and Mina or if Mina is unfit Holgate and Gibson.

Anyway we've a critical match tonight. Let's hope for a reaction from the team but one that lasts more than one match and carries on in the future
