Simms signs new deal. Reports saying the club are looking to loan him out. Sod that give the lad a go, it's not like we have an abundance of strikers is it.

{Ed025's Note - im with you woburn mate..

Unfortunately there's no evidence he would get a go.

17 Nov 2021 10:37:02
None at all. I'm not sure why he's signed a new deal tbh. If rondon was getting picked over me I'd be off. Earn some stars in the lower leagues and wait to get a bigger move.

17 Nov 2021 10:55:55
To be fair, the lad has only just come back from a while out injured. Did some of you want him to play half fit in a struggling team?
Good news he's signed a contract so it's down to him to break his way into the first team now.

17 Nov 2021 12:30:38
Well if he can’t play half fit for us how could he play half fit for a lower league team?
The lad has been training with the first team give him a go. About time we stopped shipping them out to lower leagues and tested them in the first team. Look at Gordon, had he been shipped out again we would never have known if he could cut it or not.
Plus as a manager I would want to test these lads in a struggling team, see if they have what it takes.

17 Nov 2021 12:48:19
Why would you even want him to play for any club half-fit?
If they are good enough then let them play for us, if they need time to adjust to proper mens football then loan them out.
I get what you're saying, Woburn, but it doesn't seem to happen like that any longer. Gone are the days of a Rooney or a Gerrard being fast tracked into the first team squad.
Putting a kid in a struggling team might pay off but it could just as easily ruin a youngster. I'll leave it to rafa to decide whether they are ready or not, he sees them training every day. If any of them deserved a chance then they will be in the squad.

17 Nov 2021 13:38:28
We like other clubs probably have many talented youngsters but how many are exceptional? The talented ones break through make the giant step up then dissappear into obscurity, maybe its a case of listen go here for a bit get some time on the pitch instead of 10 mins here or there and an odd cup game, and also maybe a test of character, Gordon went Preston didn't particularly go that well but he's pushed on and certainly now has a strong case for starting above iwobi, I can sit here and judge all day but like many don't see what happens at training.

17 Nov 2021 17:28:51
Well he sees Iwobi and Rondon train every day and has now maybe realised that what they do on the training pitch doesn’t necessarily get carried over to the game.

17 Nov 2021 18:40:42
Or maybe, as the manager who picks the team judging by what he sees between games, rafa has decided that none of them are ready as yet. Maybe, now he's over his injury, Simms might get some minutes. We will find out soon enough.

18 Nov 2021 11:39:02
There are plenty of youngsters in the Premier League that are being put successfully in the first team - just not at Everton, Is Foden not another Rooney. What about Dicks, Saka, Mount - you could name 20 or so, What about the Wan Bisakas or the Smith Rowes, Aarons

The manager might be picking the team by what he sees between games but he needs to start picking teams by what they show during matches. It's no good being good during training if they can't transfer it to match day.

Ours can't even get on the bench in front of a third goalkeeper

What's wrong with our club?

18 Nov 2021 11:55:21
Foden is a different proposition, he was given plenty of time before he has become a mainstay in the team. He was certainly no Rooney or Gerrard, those two had cemented a place in their respective first teams before they were 18. City have had the luxury of being able to manage Foden's progression as they have a squad littered with international players. We don't have that same luxury.
I don't have the answer as to why these kids aren't getting game time. This is really going over the same old ground and only the manager can answer truly why. My guess is that they aren't as good as some fans believe/ hope they are otherwise these kids would have been played at some point by one of the managers in charge during the last few years.

18 Nov 2021 16:18:41
Simms would certainly be better on the bench than a second keeper surely?
Yes the manager picks the team, but what message does it send to the younger players when he puts two keepers on the bench. Bloody ridiculous.
And before anyone says maybe he is trying to make a point to the owners. Well he hasn't been there long enough to do that, and he knew the strength of the squad before he jumped at the job.
