We can all argue rafa was forced to play the kids last night but one thing I noticed was he was shouting on the sidelines telling them when to press. could hear him shouting to the front line to press or drop back and it worked last night.

Agree1 Disagree0

Sorry Geoff, this one game doesn’t change my mind on Benitez. You and I know if Rondon had been fit then these lads wouldn’t have got a look in. He played them because he had no choice.
Guarantee he will revert back to type once others are fit. And let’s face it, even though all the players put a shift in, if it hadn’t been for Pickford that could easily have been three or four nil.

Rafa can't win. I've said all along we need to give the manager, whoever it is 2 or 3 years. This includes rafa. He's here now so we have to support him.

He is vastly experienced and is very highly thought of by football people, which you and I are not, despite what we may think. He has been dealt a crock of sh*te when it comes to players and had so much bad luck with injuries.

As well as the kids played last night, and I hope they get more games to learn, we should have been hammered.

Rafa did really well coaching the youngsters from the sidelines, talking to them, advising where to go and what to do.

He may return to the older heads but in any job would you let a spotty teenager do it or some hard nosed old guy, who knows what he's doing?

The old guy usually messes up due to complacency while the young guy is enthusiatic but doesn't know the tricks of the trade and struggles to keep up.

That's the dilemma rafa, or any other manager will have over the next couple of years.

We all know rondon and iwobi are awful and we only hope rafa sees that a couple of these kids can take their place and learn for the rest of the season.

I have said all along, I don't see any reason why we should get rid of rafa as we need a 3 year stint to rebuild before we start throwing him on the bonfire as guy fawkes.

Let's reassess in the summer after bringing a few players in next month and over summer.

{Ed025's Note - i will have most of that geoff, my only concern is the stubbornness of rafa for which he is famed by the way, we could all see that the side needed an injection of sorts and most of us were clamouring for him to give the youth a chance but he resisted for a long time, the definition of insanity is doing the same things over and over and expecting a different outcome, he persisted with rondon and iwobi for far too long imo mate and i just hope he has learnt that the youth is the way forward..

Completely agree, Ed. BUT, he's not the first manager we've had to do the same thing, yet, he is beaten with this stick.

Carlo didn't play any regularly. Braithwaite got a few games towards the end of his 1st season because of injuries and nothing to play for. Gordon was the only one to break through.

Fat sam, koeman, silva, Bobby. all of these very rarely brought the kids through.

Have a think how many kids we have developed since moyes. Davies, Holgate. Gordon. DCL you could add.

Think of the money wasted, which has hampered the development of our young players. They may not be the greatest when they first start but they learn so very quickly.

Rafa now needs to swallow his pride and keep Braithwaite, Gordon and either simms/ dobbin in the team. He can then reintegrate injured players and sned iwobi, rondon and tosun off down the yellow brick road with Dorothy (sorry, Denise BB, once she finds a new job)

{Ed025's Note - i want him to do well geoff and dont hold with this loathing because hes an ex red, i just tear my hair out at times with this bloody club mate..

He’s that highly thought of he had to go to China to find a job.
Those young players should have been given the opportunity against Brentford and Palace. He has the opportunity to win the supporters over here, but will he take it? Or will he continue to be ultra negative and suck the life out of the team.

{Ed025's Note - i hope he takes it bob...but im not holding my breath..

Well your right about one thing, Rafa can’t win, and that’s why we’re in this s. t.

{Ed025's Note - you do make me smile at times woburn.. :)

Geoff

One win in 11 games

Worst performance than any other team/ manager in the EPL over the last 10 games

You say we all know Iwobi and Rondon are awful, Does he? He bought Rondon after being his manager in China and Newcastle. Iwobi and he kept getting the nod over Gordon

We haven't got three years to give to Rafa and his performance doesn't merit it.
