The obsession with Patterson on this site is just plain weird. People keep quoting he cost £17m like it's a massive fee. Be realistic lads he couldn't even get in the Rangers team. So all our hopes rest with a Rangers bench warmer. God help us.

He’s a good young player who has played international football. It’s about time he was given a run. We have said all along our defence lacks pace, well this lad has it in spades.

Reg, he played a fair bit for rangers. They wanted to keep him but they have tavernier, who has been one of their top performers for many years and still playing really well.
Could have been England rb but we already have 3 top rb's
The rangers fans all thought he would be a success at the very highest level.
We know some players take time to be ready. Look at baines. Hardly played his first season or 2 then became one of our best ever.

International football for Scotland mate. I just want our back four to defend properly and as a unit. Not bothered if he has the pace of Usain Bolt. Godfrey is quick and we still can't defend.

How is it weird?
We’ve paid a decent fee for him and would like to see him play.
Everytime he played for rangers he looked really good. Only kept out of their team because tavernier plays rightback and has been outstanding also think he’s the captain so difficult to get in ahead of him.
He was really good when he’s played for Scotland.
He was highly touted and comes with a decent reputation - also numerous pundits who know a bit about Scottish football were also bigging him up

The only issue that I see which is potentially stopping him being given a chance may be that Coleman whilst has been poor for several seasons is the club captain and only leader on the pitch - if Patterson starts ahead of him who gets the captains armband?
I for one can’t think of any other player who plays regularly that could be captain - not one leader amongst them.

Well we've tried almost every option, why not give him a chance, we can't be worse than the hammering at spurs or Palace. So I think it can't do any harm trying him, maybe Frank sees something different in training and don't like what he sees!

Doesn’t matter the cost. We have needed a right back for years - he was deemed to be the right back brought in for this.
The fact he is not playing is very understandable- especially when our defence is so bad at the minute.

Absolutely agree. He barely got to start for Rangers. And most of his sub appearances were on the wing playing in front of Hutton who kept him out of the 11. Lots of Rangers fans were amazed by the fee and, though gutted one of their own who will have a bright future left, he wasn't a key player and the fee was too good to turn down. Over paid by 10 million is the general thinkin. Even Rafa played down both signings at the time and was frankly "polite" and stopped short of condemning both signings. Clearly had not had his approval and so yet another FM and his advisor spending our ceiling cash on 2 players we really didn't need, especially as both are "for the future" disgusting spending and priority so far out of whack, its what will take us down. Some fans so desperate, they are now screaming for all kinds of amateur selections and now manager 6 has also picked the same players, they can't believe it. Beggars belief but then again.

I have watched the lad play and he is a better option than Coleman. And yes I’m this day and age it is important to have pace as a defender.
For those old enough to remember, one of our best ever defenders was Ratcliffe who could not only defend but was quick to. As for slating Godfrey. Play the lad in his proper position and leave him there, he is going to be a very good defender for us.
But hey if your happier to pick peoples comments apart then crack on.

He plays in a league that's the equivalent of League 1 and Patterson couldn't oust him to be number 1 and gingerdan I bow down to your in depth knowledge of the Scottish prem and Rangers in particular. don't watch it myself as the standard is so poor.

Whilst it’s mainly a two horse race in the Scottish premiership Rangers have done far better in Europe than some of the premier league teams.

Not sure it’s a fair comparison Gingerdan. Some Eastern European teams have progressed well in the past but doesn’t make their league the same level as the Prem. Same with Portuguese and Dutch teams. We’ve seen how the style of football is different. Klassen was a prime example of that.
I hope the lad gets a chance so he can prove to us what he is like. Coleman needs a rest even if it’s just to save him for the big 6 pointers we have coming up.

Got to agree with Woburn. no reason in my eyes as to why Patterson isn't given a shot. I'm not dissing coleman as he's been one hell of a player but he's done now. As much as he's our captain he's as quiet as a mouse. I'd play Patterson and give Gordon the captaincy he's the only one who deserves it. Also pace is massively important in the prem regardless of the position. Not only is Michael Keane one of the worst centre backs in the division currently (actually the worst) he has the pace of a snail which I think is half of his problem.
