I wonder if we will see all the " ruined the transfer window" shouts that we got when we signed richy and Sigurdsson with city signing Haaland? . 500k a week is genuinely unfathomable!

Is it any different than other top sports stars in F1, NFL, NBA etc? In any walk of life, your services are worth exactly what someone is willing to pay for them.
Is it obscene? Yes, of course, he’s kicking a ball about, but it’s his value in revenue to City that dictates his wage.

Isn’t Ronaldo already on £500k per week?
Not sure haaland earning that much ruins the window.

It’s an obscene amount admittedly and when majority of families feeling the pinch seems a ridiculous fee to pay.

However if city want to pay that it’s up to them - if he wins then the league etc and sells oodles of shirts etc then they will be able to justify it.

{Ed0666's Note - they’ll be able to justify it even if they don’t win the league or sell a single shirt

Fair enough Ed you’re probably right there.

Just think it’s completely out of touch with the pinch that probably majority of fans are feeling at mo.

{Ed0666's Note - mate proffesional athletes aren’t in the same financial sphere as most of us. They are in the top 1% and their life is just different. We have to appreciate this. While other people struggle to pay rent/bills etc they can spend thousands on a single meal/table at a nightclub etc. As long as they pay it forward donate to the less fortunate I don’t care if they spend £250k on a watch or mill on a car. Good luck to them because I don’t begrudge them their good fortune in life.

But there are plenty of them that don't deserve it, and I for one do begrudge them.

{Ed0666's Note - why would you begrudge someone because they earn lots of money? Good luck to them I say. Someone’s got to earn it. If their idiots and horrible human beings than that’s when I want them to lose it all.

Again, any different from an elite banker or lawyer taking 10 mill+ home at the end of the year. If it was you, me or the window cleaner, I’d be saying fair play. If someone could earn that. City are an elite sporting club, and a brand, that can afford his wages. I for one, look forward to seeing him in the Prem.

I would not want £500K a week. I struggled on it last time I got paid that. No I could not drop to that again ?. Seriously it has taken me over 10 years to earn that. Next June I retire after 51 years working and Ronaldo in 1 year will have earned more than I did in 51 years. Sport is a short life for many but I am not sure today's earnings warrant what they do, but we are the fools who pay them.

The transfer window as we once knew it has been replaced. Player's agents are either getting release clauses put into contracts or advising their clients to see out their contracts and leave on a free. The difference between the fee in the release clause or the free transfer, and the actual transfer value of the player in the market is added to the players contracts resulting in wages such as Haalands.

Other players see it and start doing the same or complaining they want the same wages as others in the squad. The power is moving into the players, not the clubs hands.

We're moving into dangerous territory.
