We've seen shoots of what the current squad is capable of. The squad lacks depth and needs a couple more windows to be effective in climbing the league table. Not everything has done is bad, and he has undoubtedly worked within some difficult parameters set for him. He's not the way forward though - he is not progressive or brave enough to manage a club with the aspirations of Everton.

I understand the reluctance of Southgate - but he would bring attention and attract a better quality of player than Dyche. It'll be interesting to see how it plays out, but it is the right time for a new approach in the dugout.

Southgate definitely gets too much flack. I'm not so sure he'll end up in the English game, not for sometime at least. Bit like Sir Bobby, he will find it way more comfortable to go to Europe and rebuild and who knows? One day he may well finally get the respect he probably deserves. He is currently better than what we have.

How would Southgate bring a better quality player?

He had the choice of the best English players available to him and didn’t win anything and played some really boring football and picked favourite players rather than form players (sound familiar) , he also hasn’t managed a domestic team for years - would be a big no from me and don’t feel he’d be a draw for players either.

I'm with you Dan.

100% Dan.

I think by the time the takeover is completed, Eddie Howes name will be strongly linked to us with the apparent disharmony with him and Paul Mitchell at Newcastle.

Personally I'd love for us to go all out next summer and get Sebastian Hoeneb before he is snatched up, doubtful but be my choice.

If the question is Southgate, Moyes, Potter or stick with Dyche then I'd personally opt for Southgate who in parts I do feel gets some harsh criticism but equally not the most pleasing on the eye, I'd rather we dodged all of them and started the new era, stadium and season with a more upbeat approach and a young hungry manager to guide us.

Time will tell I guess. ?? Got to be better then these last few years. ??.

{Ed002's Note - Sebastian Hoeness will not be an option.}

We’ll all have ideas of who we’d like to be in charge and for me Lee Carsley if available would be my choice - knows the club, did well with the England under 21s and in his first couple of games in charge of the senior team has shown he’s willing to pick players on form as well as playing decent football.

However, Friedkin and whomever he brings in to run the club will obviously have their own idea of who they will want we as fans will just need to get behind whomever that is and support them.

25 Sep 2024 11:18:28
Didn't think any of you watched England?

25 Sep 2024 12:01:46
Southgate is a bigger name in world football that Sean Dyche. His players like and respect him. He’d raise the profile of the club and attract a better quality of player than Dyche can. I’m not stating a preference, just pointing out the obvious.

Hoeneß won't come anywhere near us. They are flying under him and he knows a top top club will come knocking next.

GD is spot on. Absolutely baffled my head the praise Southgate was getting after those tournaments. I am not being funny but we played Tunisia, Panama, got beat by Belgium, scraped past Colombia on pens, beat Sweden and then lost a game we should have won against Croatia.

The following tournament we beat Croatia, drew with Scotland, beat Czech, Germany, Ukraine, Denmark and then lost the final that we should have won.

That means over the 2 tournaments we played 5 decent sides and won 2 of them. Anyone could have been in charge of that crop of players and got to the same stage of the tournament 99% of the time.

His record in club football, albeit fleeting, is poor. At Boro, he finished 12th in his 1st season, losing to all 3 newly promoted sides and not recording an away win until January.

His 2nd season they were in the rellies for most of it before getting a 13th place finish. The only highlight being an 8-1 win against City on the final day of the season.

His 3rd season he went 14 games without a win and they were relegated.

No thank you. Much better options available.

Yeah I expect him to be well out of our reach Ed.

But if they was a inkling of hope he would be my choice.

Most of the names linked appear to just be jounos putting 2 and 2 together - basically anyone out of contract.
It's so important that we make the right appointment this time. Either someone who can work with Thelwell and shares his ideology, or a new DOF as well.

Gingerdan a criticism you levelled at Southgate in reply to another post was that he hasn't managed a domestic team in years - but then here you're saying that Lee Carsley would be your choice?

25 Sep 2024 17:26:40
Dbizzle - Southgate has not been involved in domestic football for 14yrs and only has experience with one team Middlesbrough.

Carsley has been involved with domestic football as recently as 6yrs ago and has cut his teeth in several levels of the football pyramid as an assistant manager at several clubs and has even been a caretaker manager at Birmingham, Brentford and Coventry.

Not only does Carsley have domestic league experience he’s also not afraid to pick players on form rather than just because who they are. In his 2 games as England manager he’s played more attractive football than Southgate managed in 8yrs!

He appears to be a manager on the up and if England don’t appoint him full time he would be my shout based on his managerial experience as well as his links with the club.

25 Sep 2024 18:06:03
Carsley is unproven to some extent. Southgate however is proven.
Proven to be an utterly crap manager, boring person and very average football player, he seems like a decent chap though so that's probably why the fa appointed him. He will probably get a job on the one show instead anyway!

26 Sep 2024 09:35:26
Southgate nailed by Witty41 .

27 Sep 2024 16:09:55
Say no to drugs kids, I think I’d have a nervous breakdown if we went from Dyche to Southgate.
