Took absolute pelters for the past 2 seasons about Beto. Always said that we do not play to the lads strengths and he was a very useful striker in Italy. Not only that, we expected him to perform when he was getting the dregs of games to build up any rhythm or confidence. Now he has 3 goals in 4 starts.

It isn't all about being a polished player. The lad can finish if you give him opportunities and DCL can't finish when you give him opportunities. I would much rather my no9 put the ball in the onion bag than be able to win a header or take the ball on his chest.

Made up for the lad.

In much the same way some would still have a pop at dcl even if he had a purple patch, I still don't rate beto at all! I hope he continues to score goals as that will help push us up the league and also inflate his transfer fee. For us to progress, we need far better quality forwards than we have right now.
It's hard not to like him as a person and you have to admire his attitude and work ethic but I want rid of all of our championship standard players, not just him. So put that trumpet away, BN, a few swallows don't make a summer mate ??.

Love Beto, CL wants out, let him go.

Wood? Ferguson? Andy Gray? Lineker?

That last bit BP hahah. Tickled me that.

Thing is though, I can't remember when DCL's last purple patch was. Wasn't it 2021 mate ?

I don't rate Beto as a player either but he is a goal scorer and he gives his all, so it will do for me. Lad is on no wages compared to others and is a nightmare for defenders due to his style.

Beto is starting to remind me of super kev what a shift the lad put in.

Have to hold my hands up beto is doing the business, he may be raw but goals count and he's getting them , and he's seems to be getting better and better, long my it continue.

{Ed025's Note - Amen to that BP..

?? BN, I knew you'd take that in the spirit it was intended mate ?
Probably before 2021 in all honesty! I can see the appeal of beto, to an extent, but I just think he isn't going to get much better considering his age. If he was 5 or 6 years younger then I'd be agreeing with some of you as the way he plays would have been raw talent that a manager could mould. I've got no hate at all towards the man and, believe it or not, I like his character. Just think he's not premiership level and will be quickly left behind as we improve the squad. A few goals won't change my mind but, believe me, him scoring will make me smile!
He's also a nightmare for his team mates, he's that unpredictable he doesn't even know what he's going to do next.
Some of the comparisons on some posts tonight are a bit ott for me though. I don't think some of you have sobered up from Wednesday yet ?.

Absolutely mate, the world would be a dull place if we all had to agree on everything hey.

He didn't come into the game until late and his schooling was at, with all due respect, poor clubs. This will be the first time he is receiving quality coaching. I imagine Dyche did nothing to work on him, as he never intended to use him, let alone play to his strengths. Moyes will have players lacing it into him all week and improving the parts of his game that we are all aware he is weak at, whilst at the same time sharpening what he is good at and driving confidence into him.

I just love his attitude mate. When he doesn't win the ball or like the shot Henderson saved in the second half, you can tell what it means to him. It is infectious and you can tell the players are so happy for his recent form.

I have never thought he was a quality footballer, even when I was calling for him to get more opportunities and that won't change. I just knew he was a better natural goalscorer than Dom was and he had much more to offer us than we were getting out of him.

The whole squad bar 4 players needs improving imo mate.

Pickford
O'Brien
JB
Jim
Gana (deserves it but surely his age will catch up on him soon)
Tim
Alcaraz
Ndiaye

Other than them mate, I wouldn't miss any of the others and Beto falls into that bracket. My gripe was that he was better than what we had for so long and we weren't using him.

Like you say, if we are wanting to improve, we need better than him and most of what we have. I trust Moyes to identify who is/ isn't good enough though.

What a great result though hey.
