Me too Swinners.

Lots of chat on FB of people being disappointed with it only being a 2 year contract. I actually think it makes sense in someways:

1) The obvious lack of financial commitment from us.
2) So many players go off the boil, or get injured, never to be the same again.

I know there is a risk of him going on a free, but I like seeing our club being a little more cautious financially.

About time.

Club has an option for an extra year based on certain conditions being met - quite a sensible approach.

Mad though that if the fee is to be the rumoured £12m then over the 2yrs of the contract this will be covered by the wages freed up by Doucore leaving!

If this is just a two year deal then this is one of the worst deals the club has ever made.

We may as well throw £15m in the bin as in 12 months time, if he shows what he's showed since being with us, every decent club will be tapping him up for a free transfer. BBN this is not being cautious, this is simply throwing money away.

I really hope this isn't the way we are going to be doing deals moving forward and this doesn't fill me with confidence in this window or with the new regime.

I am already worried that we have waited so long before entering discussions with Gana, taking so long to get the Alcaraz deal done and then the financials for it just makes me think these are no better than the last idiot we had.

We'll see what happens but they best be getting their act together quickly. We can't afford to waste this summer window and waste the money we need get in a hell of a lot of players.

BJU - think you need to chill out.

Transfer window hasn’t even opened yet.

We’ve offered Gana a new deal and by all accounts he’s going to sign it this week.

Alcaraz has been signed on a 2yr deal with the club having an option of a 3rd year if certain conditions met - this is sensible.

The fee for Alcaraz if the rumoured £12m is true will be paid over 2yrs by the wages we’re saving on Doucore leaving.

All very sensible by the club so far.

31 May 2025 17:36:30
Surely not signing him would be a worse deal BJU….

31 May 2025 18:45:40
BJU I can think of far worse deal than this and you need to chill out to be honest. Effectively it’s a 3 year deal which is not bad considering his age and the fact he could quite easily go off the boil! It’s really not throwing money away!

BJU You’re entitled to your opinion mate. I’ll reply with one word:

Gbamin.

I think just a 2 year contract is a bit strange when you consider his age and ability. Bar that, I'm happy we have got a deal done as he is a player that will only improve.

01 Jun 2025 10:40:20
It’s a 2yr deal with an option for a 3rd depending on certain criteria being met.

Club finally start to do sensible deals rather than offering players 5yr deals on ridiculous wages and fans still questioning them.

I’m sure TFG know what they’re doing, which is refreshing compared to previous ownership.

I know what the deal involves as I also read about it. But I still think a 2 year deal is a bit strange rather than sensible. He's a good player and will only improve further, surely the shorter contracts should be offered to those coming towards the end of their careers? Gana, for example, is reputedly considering a deal of the same length and I can understand that, given his age.
Sorry, dan, but fans are allowed to question things.

I understand where you are coming from BP but I think we’ve been stung too many times in the past. We’ve ended up with players on longer than we wanted contracts we just can’t shift and dragging us further into PSR problems. Keane, Holgate, Maupay, Alli, Rondon, Tuson, Sandro, Besic, Mina, Klaassen… to name a few from recent years.

It is a way lots of clubs cover themselves now. It feels like a get out clause for clubs. I’m happier they take this approach than stick him on a 5 year deal and then he gets a ACL injury or something like that (God forbid that happens) . Maybe they will renegotiate in 18 months the time.

Indeed we have mate but these are new owners and I don't wx0ect the same mistakes to happen. I'd have been happy with another year on the main contract, with the option of another year. For once, we've bought a young player who is already quite good and at a bargain price in today's market. I don't see much resale value in this deal whatsoever, added to the fact that we will have to go back to the table next summer to negotiate another deal with the risk of losing him on a free transfer.
