Eds. Is there truth in the Simms to Hearts on loan?

I find it baffling for a club that is short in goals and strikers, to get rid of a player before the manager has been able to assess them in pre-season?

He has scored goals in both loan spells now, seems to be filling into his frame at 21 and will only improve physically. Why have a Rondon as the backup striker when you have a young and hungry lad wanting to prove himself.

Everton that .

{Ed002's Note - Ellis Simms (S) Hearts would like another loan, else perhaps the Championship somewhere.}

Don’t see the point in another loan to Scotland. The championship or keep him would be my plan.

Keep him, surely he’s a better option than Rondon?

Wasn’t Rondon on a year contract and is a free agent again this summer?

16 Jun 2022 07:29:38
I thought Rondon was on a 2yr deal so with us until June 2023?

Is he better than a fit Rondon? I’m all for blooding youth players, but they can’t all be good enough to make it in the first team. If he’s playing, he keeps his value and we might get a few quid for him at some point.

Well rondon scored 1 goal, so I think it's safe to take a chance on simms.

Or use neither and get someone decent?

16 Jun 2022 19:54:57
I don't see "all" of them being played in the 1st team nor am i calling for it. It is a problem area for us but we don't have much flexibility in the market. We have had Gordon come through in a number of years. Pointless having an academy if you don't trust it from time to time.

How will we ever know the lad is good enough if he doesn't get a chance? He has delivered at every club he has been at, including ours when he put up phenomenal youth numbers.

My point is, why have Rondon as a backup striker when his career is clearly done and he won't have the same desire as a young lad trying to make his name in the game.

Get someone decent. We can't spend any money. Who do you suggest we get for a reasonable fee that is "decent"?

Completely agree JMW. The fact he has done well at the youth set up and every loan means he deserves a chance. And considering how many games Rondon played and the actual goal he scored Simms really cannot be worse. definitely a better option.

I’m not the Everton scout, mate. Not every player has to cost 40 million or be from our youth team. Who would be decent and cheap? I’d be guessing, but: Dennis, Batshuayi, Larin, Welbeck, Bale, Cheyshev, Belotti. Or our scouting team could do their job and scout.
