PSG have confirmed Thiago Silva will leave. Everton linked heavily in the press.
Personally think this would be a great move for 2 seasons - our current centre backs could learn a lot from him. Any chance, Ed?

{Ed002's Note - Huge wages for a 36 year old. It makes zero sense and sends the wrong message to the youngsters. Huge kick in the gonads for Brand as well. But maybe Everton are that stupid?}

Makes more sense from a commercial point of view perhaps, and he has a wealth of experience - but I can see your point, would likely halt Holgate’s progress.

{Ed002's Note - I am not sure how it helps from a commercial point of view.}

In that he’s an established name in World football.
Would it lift the profile of the club if we can attract a name like Silva?

{Ed002's Note - He is nearly 36 - it would not raise the profile of the club. Everton has an outstanding Director of Football who should be working to instill a system of player from the first team to the youth teams that will see players start to come through. Rather than that the owner takes advice from two third parties over players - meaning Ancelotti and Brands will lose out on some players they want.}

By hiring Ancelotti, Moshiri is working against the model that Brands would put in place no?

{Ed002's Note - Everton have paid very significant money to hire Carlo Ancelotti and Marcel Brands would have had other ideas. The squad remains unbalanced and players are aging - it could do with being freshened up but that the same team FFP and money are an issue.}

It has to be a big no he's 36 and would cost huge wages and at his age I think the pace of the premier league would be to tough for him we should focus on younger players with potential.

{Ed002's Note - I would agree. Tobido, Zouma - something like that.}

Did signing OAP Etu do anythin for us "commercially" whatever that means?
Silly season has begun.

It means that certain players sell more shirts than others, attract more attention etc.
It’s not that silly - managers of Ancelotti’s standing rarely search the lower leagues for promising talent - Silva is a proven winner at all levels. Stranger things have happened.

{Ed002's Note - Who do you think gets the money for selling shirts? Silva will be 36 in September - but perhaps Everton are that stupid.}

Agree with Ed002. Can’t see the point in signing a CB who is almost 36 on what could only be really high wages. Presumably as a club we should be looking to get the hangers-on off the wage bill rather than adding more on. You would hope all that money could be better spent on brining in someone younger who could grow and contribute over the longer term and maybe have some kind of sell on value in the future.

I don't think that Everton will be that stupid, if they do sign him it is just panic recruitment which I was hoping would be behind us. Let Brands start building for the future which he presumably was recruited to do.

Hopefully its just paper talk do we want another drain on our very limited funds no we certainly don't especially not a veteran player that's unproven in the premier league.

Ed I have seen us linked tobido a lot and seems to have done well at Schalke while on loan but don't really know much about him ed if you had the choice to sign tobido or go with the safer option of zouma which would you choose. I am leaning towards tobido just for his greater potential long term.

{Ed002's Note - Jean-Clair Todibo (CB) will be sold with a buy-back clause and €25M - plenty of interest but Barcelona do not see him as good enough - was available in January and is being offered around to clubs including Everton who may well look to push for him, Manchester United and Inter. Milan have had talks but concerns over injuries saw a lower bid made and rejected. General interest from RBL, Bayer Leverkusen and Southampton but no discussions. His agent has offered him to Napoli as a Kalidou Koulibaly replacement but they have their mind set on another. Roma are being messed around over another player and have turned to declare an interest in J-CT but it looks like that issue will be resolved - so they will drop interest.
Kurt Zouma (CB) Mr Mourinho knows Kurt Zouma very well and sees him as a CB option but Spurs have financial difficulties and look like they won't match Chelsea's evaluation of him. Everton can provide a good option - he is very experienced in the Premier League and has already spent a season at the club.

Zouma would be lower risk and is only 25. Tobido has had a torrid season with injuries.}

Time will tell I suppose. Bound to be lots of paper talk about. I don’t see that a one/ two year contract for Silva would quite the disaster everyone else seems to think it would be. We were hardly unbreakable at the back this season. A short time fix whilst we blood the youngsters?

{Ed002's Note - Crippling wages unless Everton can get high earners off the books - more FFP issues.}

We really don’t want to be viewed as a place for players to pick up a final big paycheck, we want players with desire to play for the club or I don’t mind if they have desire to show themselves in the shop window for a big move, as long as we get a bumper paycheck when we sell them.

JB are you the mystery 3rd party advisor Ed002 keeps referring to?
All the evidence suggests Silva would be a step in the wrong direction - massive signing on fee, massive wages, unproven in league, 36 and definitely no resale potential

These are the deals we need to be avoiding - I don’t care how much experience he has we need to be sensible with money and rebuild - not throw money at players on over inflated wages and nothing to prove. This is one of the issues we’ve had previously.

Ed can you at least tell us what field these advisors are in. Are they agents, business men etc?

{Ed002's Note - They are involved in football and one is particularly close to Mr M. They are no simply chaps he met down the pub.}

{Ed002's Note - Sorry, who?}

Everton and Tottenham are reportedly battling it out for Brazil legend Thiago Silva after the veteran centre-back was released by Paris St Germain.

However, although the 35-year-old won't require a transfer fee, he's not expected to come cheap.

Sports Lens quote RMC Sport as reckoning that Silva - who Carlo Ancelotti has signed twice before - wants €11 million (£9.83 million) per year as salary.

That's nearly £190,000-a-week.

No, Gingerdan, not an advisor, wish I was!
I’m not suggesting that Silva is value for money, or that he fits the ethos of the club moving forward.
What I am saying is, Ancellotti will have some sway one way or another. He’s not simply a yes man. Moshiri too, despite putting some long term processes in place, wants some short term success. If they believe that Silva could help achieve this and is financially viable (wages could well be very high - but no transfer fee) it wouldn’t be the strangest transfer. Especially if we’re able to offload Morgan and a few others. Having one ageing talent does not prevent us blooding other young talent. Rooney always talks up Dunc and Stubbsy as his influences - he had a decent career.

cannot understand why any evertonian would want Thiago silva infact why would he even consider joining us not even competing in anything he's 36 for one be on high wages aswell keep saying this and il say it again get rid of the dead wood and the high wages aswell bring young prospects through either academys or buy them roll on sunday let's hope the blue boys can put a shift in.
