Gonna say this again. the answer has been sat on the bench and holding up the added time board for years now.
Let me tell you that the last 3 managers to bring silverware home were all ex players.
Catterick, kendal and royle.
e
You can fill your head with yet another moshiri/ 3rd party manager but has he been successful in his choices? No. I heard tosun was moshiris choice as well. Nuff said.
Duncan ferguson IS THE ANSWER. You are all just carried away with big name syndrome. All you experts/ cynics can pull up all the negative facts about him not having experience or too big a job but just sit back and look at what we've had since kendal. All underperformed apart from Royle.

You just keep on wanting the big name or some supposed pulling power. Duncan will attract similar minded players to himself. They don't need to be big names to be a winner. James rodriguez is probably the biggest name we've had in recent years. What has he done? We finished 10th and the biggest named manager in football walked out on us. He also played the worst football I've ever seen and gave us out worst ever home record. But yeah Duncan would get us relegated according to some. Some people need to give their heads a wobble and look at the facts about Duncan. He is everton. He really, really is. I remember fergiemania. The effect he had on a terrible team staring relegation down the barrel. He will have the same effect as manager. Be careful what you wish for.

I'm with you Pauly. We need some stability for a few years. If Moshiri manages to attract another big name manager, what is to stop them leaving when a big club comes calling and we start all over again. Give Ferguson a chance, can't do much worse and he will not leave for a bigger club.

{Ed0666's Note - I’ve been saying for months on this site that you need Rafa or Nuno and I still believe that. They will give you at least 3 years and progress you’re club. They are both excellent choices and would take the job. Ferguson although bleeds blue I’m of the opinion won’t get you champions league football or win you trophies. You need experienced men with tactical nous which benitez and Nuno are.

I’d give the same advice to you.

Just because one big named manager didn’t work doesn’t mean we go “ah throw it all in the bin and give the job to Dunc”.

“He’d attract like minded players to himself” right, so, we’d be 2009 Stoke City basically.

This is like City giving the job to Richard Dunne because “he gets us”, Arsenal giving it to Eboue because “he gets us”.

Here’s why he’d get us relegated

We’d play 4-4-2, hoof the ball football. Now I know what you’re thinking “Leicester did that” but they had Mahrez and Kante, we don’t. If Duncan will attract similar minded players to himself, who would be our Kante and Mahrez? John Lundstram? James McClean? .

He’s got zero experience, has basically been kept on as a gesture of good faith by every new manager.

This reminds me so much of the people who wanted Phil Neville to take over from Moyes. If Dunc wants to take charge at some point, go out into the world and prove it, we are not here to be someone’s experiment.

Not to mention that without the tactics, we’d lose plenty of games, how long before he starts getting boo’d? How long before we ask for him to go. Then his relationship with the fans is soured forever.

If people really believe “oh he’s hard and brings passion” is enough to get us into the champions league, then that’s a real shame. There’s a reason Roy Keane didn’t work as a manager.

Well Neville Southall thinks that Ferguson should be the new manager. No good having a debate about it, we will not be the ones who make the decision. Whoever is the new manager I just hope we can keep him for an extended time. Changing managers after less than two seasons (for whatever reason) is not going to get us stability, which is what we desperately need.

Thats a very assuming point of view swan. he's actually highly rated within the club and has a good grasp of tactics apparently. Its not our choice and none of us really know for sure whod be a success. Time will tell eh?

I'd love Dunc to get the job but it's the wrong time for him to come in. Maybe if the team didn't need so much rebuilding he would do well. We need a manager with some pull when it comes to signings, at the moment anyway. Maybe in a year or 2.

I agree with everything you say Swan except that big Dunc gets kept on for good faith every manager who's worked with him have said he's a fantastic coach and being a fantastic coach who bleeds blue blood isn't a bad thing to have around the place I also agree with ED0666 Nuno or Rafa for me both very good managers and 18 months ago before Carlo came in a lot of blues wanted us to get Nuno in so I'm not sure what's changed in 18 months.

Big Dunc did well before carlo came in. 3-1 against Chelsea too. I think he will become a very good manager but maybe not for the here and now. Get Erik den Haag and be done with it.

In my opinion as fans we buy in to the narrative created within the industry and set our expectations unrealistically high the majority of time. This then limits our ability to analyse objectively. Every Manager is a risk and trophy/ title winning managers will still have the same obstacles as unproven manager. If you look at the achievements of managers then you need to look in depth at what they have achieved with the resources available. For me Dyche, Moyes and Rogers are three of the best manager in the PL as they consistently over perform. The board have got their work cut out finding the right person for the job.

I have to agree with Smit here, it’s really not the right time for Dunc I feel we made improvements to midfield with Allan and Doucoure and then Godfrey
We need a coach it’s one piece of credit I would give Moyes he could coach but I wouldn’t want to go back
So Benitez, another that carries sway in the game and I think he would improve us
Nuno wouldn’t be a disaster
Conte, if the reports hold any water would be short term, 2 to 3 seasons probably then maybe time for Dunc 🤷🏻‍♂️
Whoever comes in will have their work cut out, it’s a tough task to get a tune out the current side, find the right pieces to make a difference now and also maintain improvements for the future.
