I would take him all day long. I think he improves every team he plays in including England. Would dovetail with Daucoure and Allen well.

Just reckon he's one of those who makes a team tick. What we hoped Gomes would be and was to a degree until injured against Spurs. As you say I get Winks is Marmite.

Gpt to agree, ed025. We'd have to pay top dollar for an average player, Levy wouldn't let him go on the cheap. Probably better quality out there that would cost less.

{Ed025's Note - i think so BP, we need a quality midfielder and for the right price and i dont think thats harry winks mate, i have optimism for this coming season but we need to start well and buy cautiously COYB..

Opinions, opinions. of the three players than have come in so far, its only Begovic that makes any sense, Townsend improves neither the first XI nor the bench, and Demarai Gray suffers from the same issues as Walcott, Bolasie, Iwobi. his end product leaves much to be desired, is it too much to ask that we sign a winger who beats his marker and whips the early cross in? The above players were infuriating because they continually hold on to the ball too long.

All about opinions Danny.
I’d say all 3 signings improve our squad.
Begovic decent back up keeper.
Townsend can cross a ball - majority of our players can’t.
Grey has pace to burn - majority of our players haven’t.

Its schindlers cat atm. Until they actually play for us no one knows. we can all say on paper he is better than him but the fact is we don't play on paper we play on a pitch so i will hold my opinion until the plays have played competitive games for a period.

Unfortunately Rafa due to his Liverpool past will be judged more harshly than any other manager we have had and as the majority of us fans have said these are not top signings - however we always seem to get the majority of top signings wrong - therefore hoping these ones like Rafa will be aware of the pressure on them and perform well.

I genuinely think they will all improve the squad and both Townsend and grey will offer something we have been crying out for with pace and attacking threat and hopefully will provide DCL with the much needed service he was lacking last season.

I’m sure there will be other recruits as the window progresses and maybe one or two the fans will genuinely be excited about - but I do feel these 3 are shrewd signings albeit not amazing ones that set the pulse racing.

You have to question our scouting system. We have a horrible history of wasting lots of money on really poor players like bolasie, iwobi. These might not excite but sometimes they turn out to be the best buys as they start without the pressure a big price tag.

Rlchris, we are coming to the end of the disastrous Walsh era so I suppose we should have expected this situation. It looks like the board is going down a different route rather than throwing cash at a new manager. They are getting the wage bill down, getting rid of some of the players that have let down 3 or 4 managers and then we can start again, ffp permitting.

Ed025, definitely mate. I read that Rafa has got an extensive database on players, something that impressed the owners in his interviews. Couple that with the knowledge of Brands and I think the Moshiri Project 2.0 can finally get off the ground!
