How about these 2 scenarios to increase squad size and balance the books:

Barklay to Man City 35 mil less wages est 75k per week. Rodwell 7 mil Richards loan Milner 7 mil. est 175k per week. Then Lukaku 21 Mil Moses loan est 150k per week. Net spend Nil apart from the wage bill. All our kitty to get fresh blood from overseas 2nd striker Besic etc.

Other option is Barkley to Chelskie and doing things the other way round.

I favour the former as Man City will need home grown replacements.

I don't want to see Barkley go but it would balance the books on Everton Man City and Chelskie fronts in terms of financial fair play.

{Ed025's Note - selling our best players is a very slippery slope smeggs, and to replace ross with the likes of milner, rodwell, richards and moses is not the answer, these are either crocks or serial under achievers..

Worst idea I've ever seen

Agreed Ed. Not what I want but what could happen to increase the squad. Will Barkley stay longer than another year and will his value shoot up when he still has rough edges. Just away of increasing squad size without spending, which is the pattern of recent years in the Everton Hierarchy.

The books aren't so bad they need 'balancing' and I think you're way off on your wage estimations.

It was bad enough when we had to transfer our best players in order to keep our club's finances just above water, but the idea of taking other clubs' has-beens, never-wassers and could-of-beeners as makeweights in deals for our best players just to help them balance their financial fair play books is beyond the pale. Thank goodness we have BK (for all his faults) and RM handling our club's transfer business and not the fans!

{Ed025's Note - how true sid..

Played every year of the prem get a full house most weeks nobody earns over 100k and had top 10 finishes for years on the bounce. how do we still need to balance the books? fulham paid 11million for mccormack and they've just went down? how do we not have more money than them can any1 explain?

{Ed025's Note - in a word...wages..these players are earning millions each year, and it all adds up..

I believe wages are part of the reason we do not buy until we get close to deadline day,Paying out the wages of 1 or 2 players which may be 60 -70k a week for a month or 2 whilst not playing competitive can save you a lot of money maybe in the region of 1/2 million.
