3 days to go before another new season & after watching the Villareal game, I now know. we are in trouble! Doom & Gloom I can already hear from the Optimists on here, but I really believe its time for realism.This great Club of ours is too big for Martinez, He really doesn't understand what's required here and he still shapes as though he's at Wigan. Fans know that we had to sign at least one new experienced defender to replace the admirable Distin and also the loss of Alcaraz.we have been linked with, but lost out on quite a few decent defenders, possibly because we won't pay the going rates? Now, I would say that the odds are heavily in favour of us losing Stones to Chelsea. I think He will go because Everton are showing no ambition to sign any quality at all. Shaquiri is a liability who plays when he feels like, yes he's talented but can't hold his place in any team he's been at. We should have signed Payet the French midfielder who has now gone to West Ham. If and when Stones leaves, it sends out a message to Lukaku, Mirallas, McCarthy & Coleman that Everton are quite happy to remain a mid table team. This is just my opinion and its there to be shot at, but last Sunday against Villareal, we had no midfield creativity at all for the whole 90 mins and didn't have a shot that troubled their keeper until, ironically, Rooney came on. Kone was an absolute joke, no threat at all. but no supply from midfield either. We have only spent just over £4mil whilst even the other mediocre teams in the Premier League have all added and strengthened, especially Southampton. now there's a Manager. Martinez is out of his depth here and we need a Manager who commands respect. Even Gary Monk, one of his old players/mates at Swansea has built a stronger team/squad than we have. Martinez says he wants to sign 2/3 players before the deadline. more like 5/6, and quality players at that. but WHO and where from. Nobody will come here whilst we are on the brink of selling those we should be building a team around. for the future of this great Club. Everton FC.

{Ed003's Note - Football has changed,Everton are a great club but great clubs don't win trophies anymore just the select rich ones with the odd upset when they can't be arsed taking things seriously.}

Sadly, I completely agree with your prognosis Glden Vision. Looking at some recent old videos - Graveson, Carsley, Cahill Arteta, all played with such energy and yet weren't all the most gifted players. I look at the present crop and I just don't see real leaders with real passion. It's like Martinez has unplugged their spark.
Barkley is the most classic example of this. He like Rodwell before him seem to come off the 'great athlete' but devoid of personality over coached breed.
A bit more spark and ingenuity throughout the club is called for - maybe Ferguson needs a greater influence.

{Ed025's Note - some good points there nick..

There was a good photograph of Alex Young with Martinez up in Scotland last week. Hope he was giving Martinez advice on how to put the ball in the net.
