Had a bit of spare time today and got to thinking about past Everton greats and what their value would be in today's much over inflated market.
To put a bit of structure to it I decided o use the team of 85 as my starting point.
So, my thoughts on Kendall's all conquering starting 11 are.

Neville Southall: Pound for pound the best keeper I have ever seen. In his prime the best keeper in the world, easily. If Joe Hart is worth £40m Big Nev has got to be valued at £50m plus in today's market.

Gary Stevens: An athlete, strong and fast and for me a bit underrated at international level. £15m.

Pat van der Hawe: Psycho Pat, mad as a box of frogs. Ferocious in the tackle with an evil glint in his eye. £10m.

Kevin Ratcliffe: Club captain and good leader. Calm under pressure and one of the fastest defenders of his generation. His sheer speed often got out of trouble. £18-20m.

Derek Mountfield: Bought from the lower leagues but did not disappoint in the slightest. Weighed in with quite a few important goals too. £7.5m.

Peter Reid: A ferocious ball of energy, would literally have died for the club. Very unlucky with injuries but never gave up. £11m.

Trevor Steven: Fleet footed maeastro, a joy to watch as he turned defenders inside out, could shoot with either foot. £20-25m

Graeme Sharp: One of my all time heroes and someone I've been lucky to meet. At his peak a defenders nightmare. Unselfish, strong and great in the air. His style then would be perfect in today's game. If Lukaku is valued at £60m plus then add another 10 for Sharpy.

Andy Gray: A panic buy, last throw of the dice by Kendall but what a bargain and catalyst for everything this team achieved. Released far too soon to make way for Lineker. £18.5m.

Paul Bracewell: The perfect foil for Peter Reid, always there to cover and mop up in midfield. Blighted with injuries which surely cost him further glory. Injury free £25m easily.

Kevin Sheedy: Another of my all time favourites. Left footed genius but something of a luxury player at times. Who could forget his free kicks. Most people remember the one he took twice and put into both sides of the goal but for me it was the one in the derby when he scored at the kop end then ran to their fans flicking the V sign at them. He got off with the FA enquiry as well saying it was a victory sign. Priceless. £29-31m.

As I said only my thoughts, feel free to disagree or add any comments. Cheers.

{Ed025's Note - i agree with a lot of them valuations RIB except for tricky trevor mate, if sterling is worth £50m then add another £10m for steven..

A fair point on Trevor Steven when you put it into that context Ed although I do feel City got well and truly had off with the fee they paid. On the other hand a lot of that team is English or home grown which would boost their value more these days. Cheers.

{Ed025's Note - i loved that team RIB, what a midfield of steven, bracewell, reid and sheedy...rivaled kendall, harvey and ball for me mate and that is high praise indeed..

Great post to break up the monotony of the Rom and new manager posts mate. I agree with the comments on both Trev and Sheedy, they were both exceptional and would be worth a bit more imo.
You're right about how injury prone some of them were back in 85. Imagine how good they would have been minus the drinking culture of that era, coupled with the advancement of sports science as it is today.

In this day and age of global football, how many of that 85 side would have been picked up by barca, real Madrid, bayern. Etc.

Sheedy is the reason I support Everton more or less. Was young at the time and thought he was absolute class.

Don't forget Adrain heath either, we had at least 3 quality strikers then. 20 mil.

Agree with most but Peter Reid has got to be more than that he bossed the midfield and if Henderson is £20m then £30m for Reidy!
