Worry about this big money spends on older players, I don't like to get into the financial situation of the team. But surely it makes more sense with a new stadium on the cards, we should be looking away from players like Allan from Nopoli (29 years old) and looking at people who will be playing and growing for the next 5 years while our stadium is built and we settle. I would love more of our famous academy to get a look in. Nice to see A. Gordon having minutes.
I just think we need people who will be able to gell as a team for 5 years while we are in the transition period. l to the new stadium.
Our transfer policy over past few years have been so irratic, buying average players for huge amounts.
Look at the likes of wolves, yes they spent money, but they bought well. Neves, tor.

Good God 29 to old! This is the 21st century not the 19th or 20th (at a pinch) .

Yep let's continue mid table to regular moments of relegation form.
Would be awful to move into a stadium that doesn't even have all the permissions yet and not be in a European competition.
I say let the buiders, architects and owners worry about the stadium whilst we all try to figure out why winning the u23s league regularly doesn't compute to first team success. Let's hinge it all on that. Or. Sign a few finished articles who can help instantly transform our league position and maybe then we can throw in some of these kids into a successful side instead of throwing them to the wolves and slating them for not progressing. After all who couldn't learn a thing or 2 from Niasse and Co?

Hope if we get Allan he brings his Zimmer frame.

I agree 29 these Days is nothing like 29 around the seventies when players diets were a pint, burger and chips and 20 Capstan full strength.

Players look after their intakes on specialist diets, well most players these Days so will still have a good few years left in their tanks.

There again Stanley Mathews played well into his 40,s, so I would not worry too much at players in their late 20,s.

If the guy turned up and improved our team over the next two seasons, and helped us get into Europe. Then that's good enough for me, regardless of age.

Everyone scoffed at Vardy for 40 million when he was 29. Well imagine if we had bought him, 3 or 4 years of 20 goals a season.

Reds fan here in peace.

I understand the clamour for young lads and a young team, but brining in a few quality operators in their prime is, in my opinion, what will help you get higher up the league consistently before you make the move over to the new stadium.

Regardless of ability, sometimes younger players need some quality experience around them. I’m not saying you should go and buy 5/ 6 30 year olds at £30-£40m a time, but having the odd couple adding real quality to a younger squad would be a very good blend in my opinion.

What’s your thoughts ED25?

{Ed025's Note - i think your right smp, its all about balance and as much as i want the young kids to get their chance you do need some experience, but they must be of the right calibre mate and not like the ones we have at the minute who seem to be there justfor the money..

Allan is very good footballer, he has everything we are currently missing in midfield, he can tackle, he can run at players, he can go past players, he has bags of energy, he’s a defensive midfielder with the ability to go forward so what if he’s 29, I mean 29 isn’t even old!
The price tag is high but you want quality then you pay for it, no sell on value? Who cares! It’s no good just buying youth we need older experienced players aswell, at the moment the table is wide open, quite a few teams are only a few points away from 5th those same teams are also only a few points away from bottom 3, we are one of those teams, Lots of points to be won but it’s going to be tough, Gomes and Gbamin are due back soon but it will take time for them both to get up and running after the injuries, so buying a player who can do all the things they can is a no brainier to me.

It’s a no brainier for me buy Allen now, 29 is not too old he has everything that we desperately need,
Buy him and sell Iwobi, Walcott and Delph.

{Ed002's Note - Wo to?}

Exactly who too? I wouldn’t sell iwobi anyway but if a buyer shows up for the other two then, yes please.

Buying players to be playing in new stadium is not the way we’re 3 years min away from that, we have to think about next 2/ 3 seasons and being competitive, being in Europe every year and maybe try and end our wait for a trophy.

This ageism argument doesn't really make any sense. We bought Niasse youngish, we bought Tosun youngish. What profit are we going to make when we sell them? We're going to lose millions on both of them. We bought Distin late in his career, same with Barry. We didn't lose a fortune on them when we sold them but we did have 2 brilliant team players.

Surely it is who the manager/ Brands buys and how they add to Everton that is more important than the fee.

Just strengthen the team.

Ws need to fill this, new stadium so need to be playing good football first before we leave Goodison, as we all know class teams have a balance younger, prime, and veteran players it is the latter 2 we desperately need to manage games and show the younger players how to do things to be a winner.
