No retrospective action to be taken against Pickford. It's a shame that the challenge has cost Van Dijk his season (I wish him a speedy recovery) but all this highly disturbing nonsense about getting the police to charge Pickford with assault and threats made against him is utterly deplorable and disgraceful. It was a bad challenge yes but there is no need for this type of behaviour in football.

Anyone remember last season when Burnleys Ben Mee clattered Aston Villas Wesley (no card) and put him out for the season? There was no hate campaign to get him on an assault charge or banned for the season.

Don't know of any 'Death threats' to Spurs 'Son' after his tackle on Gomez either, for the simple reason most fans of PL clubs accept (up to a point) that their players are involved in a perilous physical sport and these things occasionally occur.
Of course this doesn't detract from reckless or petulant conduct, on the contrary there are laws already in place to deter and penalise offenders, though the thought of bringing criminal charges for such an infringement would be ludicrous and probably the end of football.
Football fans that think it's ok to send hate mail even death threats and or petitions for Merseyside Constabulary to charge any player for bad tackles are obviously mentally challenged and their clubs should do or at least say something to educate them to be more sane in their approach to what should be a fantastic sport.

The cancel generation, Howie. They will cry and scream about injustice until they are blue in the face, half-expecting to get their own way in the end. With regards to the Mee challenge and the response to it, I suspect Villa fans have got more class than you know who and, like every other team that has decisions go against them, they just get on with it and accept it.

Agree howie, completely ridiculous.

Can’t imagine all the Liverpool fans were calling for retrospective action for the horror tackle van djick made on dries martens.

Nobody wants to see a player injured unfortunately in a contact sport it can happen. Hopefully he makes a speedy and full recovery.

Pickford can’t be charged with assault - ‘Violenti non fit injuria’ - if someone willingly places themselves in a position where harm might result, knowing that some degree of harm might result, they are not able to bring a claim against the other party. In other words when you step into a football pitch you’re putting yourself in a position where you may get injured by another player attempting to win the ball, which Pickford was clearly attempting to do; however, I’m pretty sure sending someone a death threat is definitely a criminal offence and quite a serious one. Maybe these so called fans should think about that before acting in such an appalling manner.
