Morning Ed’s fellow blues,

Ed’s I was wondering how the compensation for a player under 18 is calculated?

1.5mil for T. Small doesn’t seem a lot for a player training with the first team and playing for our u23’s.

What sort of figure would you expect?

Thanks in advance.

{Ed002's Note - I suspect it is simply the first offer from Southampton and they would be happy to pay a little more. If it goes to tribunal it could end up being a similar amount or even less due to his age.}

Will be interesting to see what we get for him, I’m not convinced it’ll be anywhere near the £5m that’s being bandied about.

Think the £1.5m is a fair offer for him.

Whilst he did train with the first team he wasn’t a regular player. He did play for the under 23s but generally under 23s who aren’t part of the first team set up rarely go for large fees.

He also wasn’t solely with us as we picked him up on a free from West Brom youth in 2016 so can Everton claim they fully developed him?

Cheers Ed, makes you wonder at that price why more clubs aren’t doing similar.

Always amazes me when you see clubs regularly picking up bargains and seemingly they are the only people in for them.

Just one more thing Ed, how long would you expect Everton to be operating like we have been this summer.
Will it be sorted this year or is this the more long term reality?

{Ed002's Note - Everton have two FFP issues to resolves. Getting James off the books will help a great deal. They then need to build a sustainable model with input from the owners bein below the FFP threshhold.}

Are FFP rules here to stay as they are or will they be changed slightly in the future, as they seem to be unfair in my opinion, but what do I know.

Yeah I agree Ginger, it does annoy me that we have seemingly let him slip through our fingers especially when he would be back up to LD now we have loaned out Our other left back.

I honestly think we have lost our way with youth a little over the seasons. Last player through who players is TD and that’s only a bit part role. I know it’s a numbers game and you have to be good enough but I think you sometime have to be brave with youth and give them the chance to sink or swim.

Look at Trent Arnold he got in because of injury given a run of games alongside training with the first team and improved, same could be said about Greenwood, Saka, Smith Rowe etc.

I’m not saying we have players like that but we never seem to be brave enough to give them a go and stick with them.

Dowell
Gordon
Small
Simms

All players that have either left or are still with us that have been highly spoken about and not given chance.

Fingers crossed that will change.

ed 002 is there any truth that istanbul basaksehir have enquired for a loan deal for james with option to buy thanks for reply.

{Ed002's Note - He is being hawked around Turkey by his agent so it is possible.}

Didn’t think there was that much money in the Turkish league.
I’d imagine if he did go we’d end up paying 50% or more of his current wages.
Sure we had an issue when we loaned Tosun to a Turkish team and we were picking up a portion of his wages and he’s on nowhere near as much as Rodriguez.

Then again paying 50% or whatever it will be would be better than paying 100% if he’s definitely not part of Rafas plans going forward.

{Ed002's Note - Wages in Turkey are very good.}

Whilst I understand this from the club's point of view, I find it bewildering from James'viewpoint. As far as I am concerned there's only China and MLS lower on the football totem pole. The guy can play. I cannot work out how he would be worse off getting fit and giving Rafa a conundrum to solve. Even if that doesn't work, a fit James is going attract a lot better than the Turkish league.

Apologies Ed. I’d read an article about wages in the league last season and that had said the highest player in the Turkish league was Radamel Falcoa who was on €123k per week.
Apparently Danny drinkwater was on €124k per week but a large portion of that was from Chelsea.

Good to hear there’s decent wages in the league but still think we’d have to contribute a proportion of any wages for Rodriguez if it’s a loan.

Personally hoping him and Rafa sort the issues out and we see him contribute to the team and help with a push to win a cup or try and qualify for European football this season -.

He’s achieved plenty in his career and now seems more concerned with topping up his tan. I doubt we’ll see him in a blue shirt again.
