I can not get my head around that vvd tackle. Onana is on the floor in agony for 3/ 4 mins in that time var has not once reviewed the tackle even tho they have watched the reply an seen the tackle and not asked the ref to look at it. Its a straight red. An before someone says oh its happened to vvd with Pickford i agree its the wrong call on that one to. The system is as corrupt as the refs using it. And the west ham goal tops it all off. Its destroying the game.

Nearly every game had a dodgy VAR this weekend. Geordies goal, Brentford pen, hammers goal, arsenal goal.

It's a total disgrace.

its a great topic youse have both said the question i want to ask is does anyone remember last season where i think man united played leicester and the referee blew full time whistle but yet as players went down tunnel only to be recalled 5 mins later for a penalty for bruno fernandes to get and score just think var is florred think its needs changing how am not sure.

{Ed025's Note - just scrap it and go back to basics with proper referees and linesmen doing the job they get paid for..

Spot on ed.

{Ed025's Note - the game was better without it for me glt. There are more errors happening with VAR than without it mate. Or is it corruption?..

I think the entire refereeing set up needs shaking down. Var is bad enough, just the evidence from this weekend shows as much. It is ruining the match day experience for thousands of people in the grounds. The Goodison crowd was celebrating like mad people when Coady scored, only to find out a few minutes later than some bell in a room with loads of TVs decided the ref isn't capable of making a decision himself.
On top of var, we have the worst group of professional referees in living memory. They are either too scared to make their own decisions so as not to upset their boss, or they are just totally inept at their jobs. It's been raised as an idea many times before, but why don't they try and fast track ex players to become referees? Surely, having an understanding of the game and certain game situations, will be more beneficial that using some 40 odd year old fella who has never played at the highest level?
With the control firmly in the grasp of var, we might as well put the mascots in the middle of the park with a whistle as they don't give the ref proper control anyway. Absolute farce.

Evocallum, that's the only one I wouldn't argue about considering it helped keep that lot over the park quiet ?.

It’s definitely corruption to allow an entertaining title race every season. Do people think it’s a coincidence that the title has been won by 1 point twice in the last 3 seasons? . But they’ll add in other “errors” in random games to make it look like it’s all good.

As for the VVD tackle, people have justified it by saying “well Onana shouldn’t have outmuscled Carvalho”, what? So because it’s a revenge tackle it’s fine? Pickford injured VVD after VVD tried to break James’ leg. So the Pickford tackle was okay then because it was revenge? So stupid.

There’s literally always an excuse or a convenient “recent rule change” whenever it involves any of City, Liverpool or Chelsea.

I don’t think it is a conspiracy; the people who are making the checks are just not consistent enough.

I like the concept of VAR to check obvious mistakes. The issue for me comes when someone’s finger is offside. Make it simple again and base it on the standing foot. If it is onside compared to the second to last defender’s foot then they are on. A limb, nose, eyelash, someone’s breath, etc just doesn’t rub with me as offside. It kills the advantage of attacking side.

You cannot score with your arm or hand, if you are a striker you will be running with your arms swinging for balance and speed, try running without swinging your arms, have a go at running with your arms down to your waist, whereas a defender will be in a standing position, with their arms more towards their waist, or behind their back.

It’s not rocket science use the players feet for any offside lines drawn. If that does come in, watch how many players change their boots to Green :-)

If you go in for your driving test you have to pass an exam on basic questions as part of the theory test, . If you did not pass you failed and had to retake it.

Bring in exams on basic football rules for those at Stockly Park, make sure they know the rule book inside out, if they fail the exam, they are removed, until they pass next time.

Same with refs, they would soon learn the rules.

I don't think Refs should be allowed to man it we have seen for many years how referee's favour the greedy 6 so by putting them in charge nothing will change. We all know if that was Coady on Salah then Coady is seeing a red card for me they have to be a separate body and with no history of refereeing at a high standard and get extensive training and the conversations should be played live and the only conversation they should have to start with is "you need to take a look again" then when at the screen the referee should via live communication with the stadium explain what he's thinking and if he's changed his mind with the person in Stokley park having no communication at all as currently the var official has too much power.

Look at rugby both codes, cricket, tennis, my god even field hockey all use a form of video referee. The only mistake I've seen in cricket was during C.V. lock-down, when they couldn't get english speeking video umpire to officiate test matches in India, and England called for a catch and the video umpire ruled for LBW, not watching the entire play, this is what's happening with VAR, why don't they poach the best video officials from other sports and teach them football rules, couldn't be worse.

With ed025 with var. Remember thinking even before it was Introduced that this would kill elite football and it is. Absolutely dreadful why? Because its ran by failed referees. Its the offside rule as well In general is just so poor. If you have to draw a line under it and debate for more than 20 seconds having reviewed it on a screen then its not clear and obvious and I would want to see a goal given irrespective of whether it's for or against, just fairness and Consistency is what we crave.
If It was used properly it would hardly be used at all. Only for when there is a glaringly obvious incorrect decision. You would be looking at one fixture a weekend at best!
