Early days with McNeil of course. But I did want to ask, who were some signings we made that you thought "what on earth have we done" only to be proven wrong and the player to have been a pretty good signing? .

For me the main one was Gareth Barry, I always used to watch him and think "what does he do" but then watching him consistently at us, I realised just how class he actually was.

Yeah Gaz was amazing swan. The sad thing about this post is there are none in the Moshiri era who I would say I would choose.

Dwight has had a few good games under dyche, but he still needs to do it for the rest of the season and chip in with a more goals and assists.

Landon Donovan, I thought it was a gimmick but he was boss.

I think Phil neville fa's into that category. Did very well for us and gave his all.

Defo think Gaz Baz is one of our best, most underrated signings. The lad was a tank, doing so much of the dirty work in midfield. I'd also say Jelavic in his first season. Did not expect him to be so class coming from Rangers when they had their financial crisis. Shame he was a one season wonder. Also Steven Naismith came with him for peanuts and turned out to be the heart and soul of the dressing room after being slated for two seasons.

{Ed025's Note - loved gareth OHEFB and naisy was an absolute diamond on and off the pitch mate..

Yes Ed Naisy a dying breed sad to say.

{Ed025's Note - the work he done for EITC was above and beyond OHEFB, and work with the homeless, great person and professional footballer who gave his all every week, not an amazing footballer but certainly an amazing human being mate..

Couldn't agree more, Ed. We could do with a few like him in the squad. They don't make em like that any more.

{Ed025's Note - very true mate..

Steven Naismith did develop massively. Remember his right foot, left foot, header he scored in a game. Perfect hatrick as the say. Not long before he left I think.

Absalute legend both on and off the field for Everton. Might not have a European name but always gave 100%.

Agree Ed025, SN was a great signing for us and one I was sorry to see leave. His charity work, not just with us but every club he has played for, should be an example to every pro footballer. He never got the credit he deserved for that, especially when you look at the plaudits the likes of Rashford and Henderson got for what they did for under privilaged kids. Not that he probably wanted that sort of attention.
NB, was that against Chelsea at home when he scored that perfect hat-trick?

{Ed025's Note - i think it was BP, naisy was great for the club mate and everyone had nothing but good things to say about him..legend..

My Dad, for his sins, is from North of the border and is a big Gets fan. He was gutted when he left Rangers but the blow was softened slightly with him joining us.
We won't see many like him again, ed025, sadly.
NB, me too pal or even a scruffy nil nil!
