As the Ed's have already explained the crux of our troubles is the fact that we spend 90% + of our turnover on players wages.

When you think of the absolute fodder that has worn that blue shirt in the last few years, it makes it all the more disgusting that the people in charge of our club have allowed this to happen.

We have gotten rid of the following players for the approximate fees and yet we are still right in the s*** .

Iwobi - £20m
Kean - £ 30m
Gray - £9m
Cannon - £8m
Simms - £8m
Nknonkou - £2m

The season before .

Richy - £60m
Gordon - £40m

Then we have had some big wages cleared off the books in Mina, Gabamin, Allan and Tosun who left on frees.

In that time other than Onana and possibly Danjuma I can't think of many we have signed that would be on ridiculously high wages.

Perhaps the biggest stink is the fact that Michael Keane, Gomes, etc have been allowed to stay at the club on astronomical wages. It is absolutely p*** poor. Both on £100k + a week and both are utter utter s***. We should have sold both for next to nothing to get them out of this club.

The Danjuma deal made zero sense. He already showed what type of character he was when he left us in the s*** and swanned off to Spurs. He will be on a hefty wage and any player that doesn't seem pi**ed off to sit on the bench is not a player worth having. He took up a vital loan spot and has offered sweet fa.

The Chermitti deal was even worse. Yes maybe Simms or Cannon aren't PL standard but they cost us absolutely nothing, will be on low wages and at least have a level of care and desire to do well for this club. Chermitti was as raw as they were, yet we spunk £12.5m on the lad when we are skint. I bet his agent got him some decent wages whilst he was at it too.

We are in this mess because we put ourselves there, plain and simple.

As Ed's have said, the way out of it is to make some big sales and reinvest in frees, loans and smart signings on low wages until the storm passes.

Onana will end up going for sure. That should fetch a nice fee and free up some high wages.

I would like to see DCL go, although I thought we should have got rid of him when his stock was high off the back of the season post Carlo. We will be lucky to get £20m for him now but more £100k a week wages gone. An effective player, yes, but even that has dwindled now. The fact that people still rate him as a goalscorer baffles the life out of me.

Gomes, get him out. Keane the same.

Thelwell needs to earn his coin now and explore the South American market and dip into the French market as they transfer the best to the PL and always have bargains to be unearthed.

What a sad state of affairs this club is in.

100% correct BN.

So just sell all our best players and still expect us to stay in the Premiership, with a squad full of kids. Well that makes sense?

It is absolutely mind blowing how a supposedly very rich business person can be so inept as to not see how 90 percent of income spent on wages is not sustainable. I also fail to see what game the Prem are playing, what does it achieve other than driving a Club to the wall. Everton are inept but they are trying to reduce their liabilities albeit not fast enough. What good does pulling the rug do! Can only speculate that this new Prem toughness started when HMG proposed an independent regulator.

Ed002, The % of our turnover is clearly killing the club. Is it the case in addition that loans to allegedly pay for the Stadium build, which you've repeatedly stated is not fully funded are deemed not solely for that build but also to pay for operating costs, ie Wages by the Premier League, hence our position yesterday in regards further breaches and charges brought. The finances are so so bad. It seems administration is becoming inevitable. Would you agree?

{Ed002's Note - The cost of improving the infrastructure (e.g. the stadium) is one of the items excluded from the FFP accounts.}

The problem was the high wage multi year contracts they were given. Its all good saying get rid but get rid but to who? Nobody will want either of them on the wages they are currently on and why would they leave? Even if we agreed mutual termination of their contracts we would be worse off and would not be able to get anyone in to replace them. Should someone come in for them then that may be a different matter but with our current squad then we actually need them especially Gomes at the moment. We will probably have to wait till their contracts expire.

WoburnB Think he means a reset. This carries on (prem are not giving any breathing space) we are certain to get relegated.

More a case of on good wages and still under contract Bluenose. Thelwell may well be trying but nobody willing to pay up.

Thanks Ed002 I understand that yet it seems the Premier League are not excluding the interest payments on that borrowing being used for the build. Regardless the financial position is woeful. Should 777 collapse are we looking at administration on top of all this in your view?

{Ed002's Note - I am not party to the accounts that have been submitted. Everton should make use of a Swiss company who work as an agency matching clubs to potential owners. If the 777 deal fails to go through, it leaves a huge residual problem as they have been lending the club money to pay the wages.}

Thanks Ed. It feels like this will be a repeated cycle for the foreseeable until such time as we as a club resolve the ownership issue. Has Moshiri totally washed his hands financially now to your knowledge?

{Ed002's Note - Moshiri is unwilling to throw more money at the club whilsts he pushes to sell quickly.}

Disastrous Owner with even worse advisors. Should we head towards Administration do you think he'd bail the club out while new ownership was sought as surely being a Premier League outfit is more of a proposition for prospective buyers?

{Ed002's Note - I wrote this on 29 Jul 2023 09:31:06
Do you expect the club to be sold this Season Ed?
BR2022-23

"Ed002's Note - Everton are still hovering around FFP issues and have profit, sustainability and ownership issues and face potentially significant penalties. They need to reduce the wage bill further and utilise the cheaper or free options available to them and utilise youngsters where they can. 777 Partners and MSP Sports Capital will look to answer Moshiri's dire need for a quick sale before the roof collapses on him. Investment for 25% of the club wanted by MSP might be the best Moshiri, in terms of timing and the stadium, could hope for - and certainly best for the fans. Circumstances are such that selling the entire business would be the ideal for Moshiri but with the money required to complete the stadium and the FFP issues likely to bite, it makes it unattractive as a package. Everton should run a mile from 777 partners for two reasons - they are being investigated over investments in two low cost airlines that have seen reposesessions and, if Everton and Standard Liege were to both qualify for the same European competition, then Everton would be excluded."

The situation now is that Everton will likely get no more loans from 777 Partners and may need to seek protection which Administration will give them. The process to deal with the appeal, the new case and any further appeal pushes everything down the road if 777 Partners do not get approval this month. It then becomes a reality and would see another significant points deduction of 9 points.}

Thank you for reposting that. New to this page in terns of posting but always followed your extremely well informed posts and information. Bleak times to be an Evertonian and I wish everyone understood how dire the situation is.

{Ed002's Note - Indeed, it is going to be a very bumpy ride.}

I know it was/ has been mention before, but surely now is time for prem league to put financial rules in place to help clubs. i.e wage caps or even transfer caps. Surely owners could go for that as income would be greater as they not forking out huge transfer fees and wages. The money is ridiculous for men doing their jobs. Needs sorting and can be done as was with the 3 foreigners rule in 90s. If it's not possible at a the I'd understand. Just thinking of how prem can put everyone on level playing field fir fees and wages.

{Ed001's Note - the issue would then be the other European leagues would just sign all the best players by paying them more than the English clubs can.}

I thought about that Ed001, but something needs to be done. All punishing clubs does it put them further into the mire when helps needed. I admit we have been ran shockingly but it's the fans suffering. a lot on here have fallen out of love with the business. I use the term business because that's what it is now, not a sport anymore. I genuinely fear for us this season. Could end up like a Leeds, Middlesbrough, Leicester. Or worse. Wigan, Portsmouth etc. As with the stadium, it reminds me of a club not far from me. Darlington. George Reynolds built a 25k seater stadium and it didn't get used. Just stands there getting dirty and used for rugby or car boot fairs. I just hope we beat eastenders, corrie and emmerdale in the national soap awards, because that's what this is turning into.

{Ed001's Note - the punishments do need to be rethought, but it is difficult to come up with something suitable which actually does punish a club. I mean in Everton's case in the initial punishment, you did continue to sign players, which put you over the limits, so it had to be something to put others off doing the same. You can't just allow clubs to be over the FFP limits and still continue to buy players. It would be better if they had done something similar to the EFL and, once it was known Everton were over the limit, they put a block on incoming signings until the club was within limits. Rather than punishing later, I would prefer they acted to keep clubs within the rules as they go.}

Woburn, where did I say sell our best players and play kids? Whether you like it or not, we need to shift our assets on in order to correct this s*** storm we are in.

I said Onana is very likely to leave, so at least we fetch a decent fee and clear some hefty wages off the bill. I also said to shift DCL because he is also on silly wages for the level of player he is. I think he is a poor goal scorer and yet he starts 95% of games for us without fail. Yet another simple finish for a striker missed against Villa and it is nothing new. I fully expected him to fluff his lines when he broke through. He is a decent player yes, (imo overrated) but he is not a finisher.

What is to say we cannot shift both on and then get 3, 4 or 5 players in that improve the overall picture of the squad.

We sold Richy and Gordon, 2 of our best players and brought in Tarks, Onana, Garner and McNeil. This is the model that many clubs in better states than ours follow e.g Lille and Dortmund.
