I can accept we won’t win every game, I can accept we will get outplayed on occasions. What I can accept is the complete lack of interest from the players. They jog around the park, no pressure put on the opposition. On the ball they have no clue, always looking for a sideways or back pass.

It’s hard to see how we fix this before the season starts. It’s time to drop the egos and experiment. They have failed at every chance they have been given. If they can’t be bothered turning up then leave them out of the squad.

They pass sideways or backwards because the movement is poor. There are no options. Mentality is poor and when a forward pass is given our players are on their heels and the pass looks a bad one. DCL needs more coaching as he’s offside so often that we have to check back. Richarlison is too wide too often. He’s meant to be playing 442 but defaults to a 451. They need sorting and the Midfield need a bit of help from them. We have been playing with a number ten for years but now we don’t. This is going to take time, but we need to see some improvement from the wolves game quick sharp.

2.) 12 Jul 2020 18:00:31
We need fresh blood, players with a desire to prove themselves. i'm not arsed about names as long as the players brought in improve the team.
One thing we do need though is attire new midfield as non of out current breed see to have any notion of how to play the position.
Carlo and brands have there work cut out for them.

3.) 12 Jul 2020 19:27:45
Can't criticize Walcott, he looked like a player who hasn't played a game since March, however so did most of the others. The passing was atrocious, Pass to a teammate, or if you pass into space make sure the 60/ 40 is in our favour, not the opposition. Carlo must be having second thoughts. Telling your team what to do, and game after game then watch them unable to do it.

4.) 13 Jul 2020 12:26:40
To be completely honest I think we were playing our best football since the season resumed when it was 2-0, obviously we were chasing the game at this point but we were stacking on the pressure and causing Wolves some issues.

We all know where our weaknesses in the squad are, but I think some business in the transfer window could resolve the issues.

we need a center mid because Davies and Gylfi are atrocious, Gomes is still recovering from his injury and we have seen the quality he can bring when he is on it.

A RW because Walcott just shouldn't be near the first team, I've seen goalkeepers make better runs than him.

A CB because going into a season with 3 CB's is downright neglect.

And don't get me started on Pickford he is a full blown liability!

I'd also like to note that I think that Carlo see's the areas we are lacking in and has tried to opt for a defensive minded stay strong at the back route till the end of the season because our midfield couldn't compete with a conference side's at the moment, I don't expect us to be playing this style going into next season.

5.) 13 Jul 2020 21:59:11
Sorry Gatesy, but our midfield never created anything worthwhile Calvin/ Richy and Kean have been living of scraps. Personally I haven't seen an improvement,
I went to St Mary's in November, were we took our time under Silva, to put away a very poor Southampton side, who at that time could hardly string a pass together. Yet the same players and manager are showing the most of the league how to play, work hard pass accurately. Yet though we have risen up the league in that time, we look pedestrian in comparison.
Hopefully we will make a few changes before next season, but most of our squad will be there next season, we cannot afford wholesale changes and you are living dreamland to think otherwise.
The other point is it will be a short close season for Carlo to coach some bad habits and attitude out of them.

Think that last game gave us all a bit of perspective. Yes the transfers haven’t been Hollywood signings, but Townsend and gray both did more in 90 minutes than Bernard did all season.

Carlo was going to take us forward with that squad apparently, but I just actually enjoyed watching us play for the first time in probably 12 months.

Yes we need more players to come in, yes we all want flowing exciting football and yes Rafa still needs to sort out the mistakes. But…gone are the 40 passes to get over the halfway line, gone are the players looking knackered after 60 minutes and gone has the mentality of just rolling over when behind.

I will take spending £1.5m on transfers, if what I get is football that doesn’t want to make me pluck my own eyes out, players that actually turn up and gets rid of the over paid tripe that have mooched a living for too long here.

Will we win every game…no, will we play s**t on occasions…yes, but let’s stop the doom and gloom and support the manager and the club .

I don't get the need for massive outlay for players and wages. There's bargains all over. Look at N'Kante. Couple of million from team in France and look how he turned out. As long as they thoroughly scouted then let brands bring in who he think fits.

2.) 17 Aug 2021 13:52:07
What a post trinity. Couldn't agree more mate. 👏👏👏.

3.) 17 Aug 2021 20:44:54
Think that’s been the problem Dentilad. Poor recruitment for several years under different managers. Who’s accountable for that shower? Marcel is like Teflon when you look at the incomings on his watch and few say ought about it.

4.) 19 Aug 2021 15:27:44
Great post Trinity. I think we all enjoyed watching us play at the start of last season when we were flying and looked very good in some of the games. But that quickly fell apart and we were dire to watch …. again, unfortunately.

Lots of names being mentioned, and most would not please everyone.

For me, I don’t care about names etc, or pulling power, we’ve done that, hasn’t worked.

I want the club to do this right. Marcel needs to decide what footballing identity we want going forward, counter attach, high press, and then interview the candidates that fit his profile.

We can’t keep buying and selling players with the arrival of every manager, we are stuck in the mud and need a direction to get out of it. Pick an identity, get a manager to fit the footballing profile, and buy players to suit that system. After that, every manager appoint, ent should fit our profile, not the club trying to fit theirs.

Don’t give me names, give me a plan that makes sense going forward, give me stability, give me a blueprint for Everton football club.

1.) 03 Jun 2021 14:29:21
HT I totally agree we are a team that predominantly has players suitable for counter attack so it would make sense that we get a manager in that uses the similar tactics. It should be easier to find payers that fit this profile within our financial limits rather than all round technical gifted players with the physical attributes required for the PL. It would also be helpful if we had more leaders with strong characters at the moment our leadership model is purely based on by example rather than vocal we need a mixture of both to progress.

2.) 03 Jun 2021 14:30:20
I'd go along with that.

3.) 03 Jun 2021 14:49:02
Totally agree. Definitely a case of too many cooks at the top of the club by the sound of it so not sure we’ll get any of this.

4.) 03 Jun 2021 15:03:44
I agree HT, but we got to carry on with what Carlo would of done. Players need to be shipped out and better players brought in, who a technical, pacey and have the fight in their hearts that Everton football club expects. Players who you would have alongside you in the trenches, like Godfrey, DCL, Allan etc.

5.) 03 Jun 2021 19:32:02
Good post HT.

23 May 2021 17:48:23
Time to look to next season. Realistically I think we should be looking at around 4 maybe 5 new players coming in. The problem is clearly getting rid of what we have.

Need to sell (or try to) kenny, holgate, keane, iwobi, Gomes, siggy, Bernard, kean, delph, besic. Don’t envy brands that job, let’s be honest who would want half of them on the wages they are on.

Defo need a RB, 2 xCM who can hold and carry the ball with pace, RW with pace and possibly a striker (not essential for me) .

Good luck Marcel and Carlo, but we expect improvements on the absolute s**t we have had to watch this season.

HolyTrinity

1.) 23 May 2021 17:59:22
I would keep Keane for the squad but the rest I’d definitely move on.

2.) 23 May 2021 18:03:14
That game summed up our season, no improvement Carlo might be a good manager but he hasn't had to manage garbage like this before.

3.) 23 May 2021 18:16:55
My normally balanced view maybe clouded but I'm not ready to look forward to next season. Based on the last few months top 4 looks a lock for next year. City, UTD, Chelsea and them.

This year was the opportunity and we didn't even put up a fight, and that more than anything is the disappointment. Its far too easy to say we need to get rid of 15 players and get new ones. No what we need is Carlo to take a long hard look at how he approaches the season. Stop ignoring our youth set up, stop chopping and changing team/ formation an over managing the team.
Play to our strengths, if it's direct then play direct don't mess around attempting to play football. AND ABOVE ALL GET SOME PACE!

4.) 23 May 2021 18:55:13
Give his son a backroom job nowhere near the first team squad is a good start for next season.

01 Dec 2020 14:51:29
I’m sorry but Carlo isn’t untouchable from criticism. We can all see that the s had depth isn’t good enough, and playing Davies and iwobi as wingbacks stinks of trying to make a point.

That’s not even what annoyed me, but by leaving Gordon, Niels, Kenny etc out of the squad it left no room to change.

If brands is all about youth and implementing a through squad policy to get them to the first team then Carlo needs to embrace it. Picking a squad to make a point like a petulant child is not acceptable and it’s costing us points every time.

HolyTrinity

1.) 01 Dec 2020 18:28:00
Is there evidence that he acted like a petulent child? No, he's not untouchable but do we know what was wrong with either of the players that you mentioned? Were they 100% fit? Had any of them breached the clubs disciplinary code? Did they all train to the best of their abilities during the week?
I'm not having a pop at you here, HT, I'm asking genuine questions since evry man and their dog are jumping to conclusions when the facts aren't always there for us all to see. There has to be some reason why they weren't selected and I'd be interested to see what they actually are.

2.) 01 Dec 2020 19:34:56
I honestly think he's still searching for his preffered 11 and formation. Injuries and suspensions have made it a longer process.
The key is to just stay in and around that top 6 and I think once the likes of Doucoure and Godfrey and Allan are settled we will finish the season strong.

3.) 01 Dec 2020 20:15:07
Maybe the transition from training ground to pitch is where we struggle, but in reality he has inherited probably the worst set of players as they always seam to look like they have never played together before.

4.) 01 Dec 2020 22:29:04
Think top 8 even at this stage will be okay. 5 points behind top 2, any more slips it could then become the next 2 and so on. See which 2000 turn up at next home game.

5.) 02 Dec 2020 07:33:26
I think we'd all be interested bluepotato why they weren't selected but I doubt we will be given any insight, at least not until the biography comes out

One thing that does annoy me though is this excuse (and I realise you are not making it) is that we haven't seen how they trained.

We haven't but we've watched the actual games and the people that keep getting picked are not performing on the most important stage - the match yet Gordon, Branthwaite and Simms (even though he hasn't played) have not let us down, even when they are shunted down to the U23's to get a run out

The way some of our so called superstars have played recently they deserve a chance.

6.) 02 Dec 2020 12:42:10
BW, totally agree mate but I can also see why there's no chance of the three you mentioned being selected right now in the same starting line up. Not many teams would throw three youngsters in at the same time unless they have little choice but, to be honest, this would be a good time to do it while there is no crowd and (possibly) less pressure. The senior players need to step up, even if it to put themselves in the shop window, as a lot of them are not good enough and have been stealing a wage under a few managers for too long now.

7.) 02 Dec 2020 13:30:19
Even one would be nice bluepotato They are not even getting into the matchday squad

Any 2 out of Gordon, Branthwaite, Nkounkou and Simms would be a massive message/ fillip to all of us I think.

8.) 02 Dec 2020 20:34:15
It would, BW, but I suspect that it would be either Branthwaite or Gordon rather than Simms. Suppose we will find out soon enough mate!

10 Jul 2020 00:33:50
We are so poor to watch at the minute. Every midfield dominates us. We never won any 2nd balls tonight and when we are in possession we look lost of ideas. Considering Gomes and soggy are supposed to be playmakers, they are just negative and predictable in their passing. We need more energy in the middle and not to be so one dimensional going forward.

Feel sorry for the front 2, they run their socks off all game, but they have the least service of any strikers in the league.

Defence is sound enough for next season, attack will do us too, but please sort out the midfield. More energy, more positivity, more hunger definitely needed badly.

1.) 10 Jul 2020 02:10:19
How Baningime is not getting game time, even from the bench, god only knows, he would make a difference alongside Gordon, I would even try Digne further out wide left and slot Baines as left back or vice versa.

2.) 10 Jul 2020 10:02:36
CA has his work cut out for him with the current squad
The whole team looked to be half a yard slower that Southampton. The lack of fans is one excuse but really it's the same for the other sides and if Goodison had been full the atmosphere might have been ugly watching players who didn't seem to care or be able to pass it to their own side
Defensively not too bad but too many mistakes in Mina and Pickford at the moment. We have to come up with long term solution at right back which is no criticism of Coleman and get one more in the centre
Midfield - where does CA start? None of them are deserving of a place next season. Siggy has lost it completely this season, Iwobi never had it, Davis out of his depth, Gomez - something is still wrong with him following his injury, Bernard not delivering consistently and Delph, Walcot and Gbamin injured. The only light has been the introduction of Gordon but it questions why CA hasn't tried out more from the U23's. Why can't Baninggime and Adenirons for instance get a run out with the dross playing instead of them?
Up front no problems with DCL and Ricky but Kean isn't doing it for me. Considering the hype when he signed he hasn't lived up to it - just like Ramires, Tosun, Niasse etc

As I said a lot for CA to do but it will be his first window, it will probably take more than one but he's the right person for it and we must keep the faith with him.

3.) 10 Jul 2020 10:07:56
How can you say he would make a difference? He has never played regular for us, the manager must see what he is like in training. So with him not playing, or being used regular as a sub, then its quite obvious the manager doesn't fancy using him that much, i think you need to trust the manager, not your instincts on a player who doesn't play.

4.) 10 Jul 2020 14:13:40
Well Iwobi, Siggy and Davies must be like the holy trinity in training then because from what I have seen all three need benching, we are not going down or getting a Euro spot, so why not give the likes of Baningime and Gordon a pairing in Midfield.

The same players, the same subs every game, and you are happy with that why not give some of the others a run out for The remaining 4 games, or at least two of the four games, they cannot possibly be worse than that snail pace midfield we keep wheeling out.

5.) 11 Jul 2020 10:06:05
That’s very funny bignev - made me laugh 😂😂.

I have a gut feeling they are going to end up appointing Ferguson. Not who I want (potter) but seems if they wanted the likes of rafa or Nuno it would be done now with them being free agents. Just have a feeling we are about to go for the chelsea/ lampard approach. Hope I am wrong.

Totally agree Woburn. Non of these up and coming English managers get a chance to develop at a bigger club. If nobody gives them a chance how will they ever get away from the …. what have they won shouts etc. Wouldn’t be unhappy with potter.
