Apparently according to a few rags we are signing 17 year old defender Matthew Foulds from Bury. don't know much about him but is it just me or is the club obsessed with young defenders? We seem to have loads of young quality defenders (Garbutt, Stones, Galloway, Browning, Pennington, Holgate etc) but not a lot of quality young attacking players coming through.

Agreed mate, not a single winger, striker or attacking midfielder looks like coming through the academy. Do we have any decent one's? .

Said that previously. no youngsters to get us on the edge of our seats. all these defenders and some games we can't defend for TOFFEE (Bum Bum)

we seriously need to addressing the goalkeeping issue, its a big concern now.

We've got that Tom Davies as well, but most of the youngsters of note seem to be defenders. The senior goalkeeper problem needs sorting, I wonder if that Russell Griffiths will make it in a few years time, he started for the England youngsters a few weeks ago.

{Ed025's Note - we need a new keeper now tommy, the guy is a liability and costing us points hand over fist mate, for me we heed to promote joel until january and then purchase a top one..

Exactly my thinking Ed, who knows we could be lucky and Joel could prove himself and we mightn't need to spend. Won't know unless he gets a chance. Far better alternative to Howard.

What really worries me is that when Jags went off they had the gaul to give the arm band to TH talk about rubbing it in, he already has dillusions of granduer without adding to it. Furthermore when Robles kept 3 clean sheets he was dropped as soon as TH was fit, more management as far as I am concerned.
Man U got rid of him years ago and while he has served us well I have never had great confidence in him and he is now one of the poorest keepers in the PL.

When Howard was injured Robles played like a man possessed, probably because he knew he was in for a run of games, and he had to impress. Who knows, maybe if he has a good game on Tuesday the manager will consider him for a PL start. He must however show he is willing to command his area and come for crosses, otherwise there'll be no reason to change.
I personally like Robles and given a real opportunity I think he could make it, which, because of his age, would solve our goalkeeping problem for a long time.
We would still though, need to look for a back up keeper as I would put Howard out to grass.

Agree entirely Tommy, we have plenty of decent young defenders on the books, and continue to buy more, yet rarely do the more attacking players come through the ranks. CM seems to get a chance pre-season but then gets put back in the U21's or loaned out. Henen is meant to be a good prospect but how near is he to the first team?
We have enough talented defensive youth players coming through, let's see some of the more attacking players given a chance in the league cup games.
