As we enter thr final 2 weeks of the transfer window and the rumours get stronger, I'm happier having Koeman and Walsh at the helm than Martinez. How many Martinez signings would have been deemed good enough for a transfer to the Roysl Blue Jersey these days?
Oumar Niasse (£13.5m)
Aiden McGeady (Undisclosed)
Antolin Alcaraz (Free)
Arouna Kone (£6m)
Jindrich Stanek (Undisclosed)
Leandro Rodriguez (£500k)
Sam Byrne (Free)
Samuel Eto'o (Free)
Joel Robles (£2m)
Tom Cleverley (Free)
Mason Holgate (£2m)
James McCarthy (£13m)
Muhamed Besic (£4.8m)
Gerard Deulofeu (£4.3m)
Aaron Lennon (£4m)
Brendan Galloway (Undisclosed)
Ramiro Funes Mori (£9.5m)
Gareth Barry (Free)
Romelu Lukaku (£28m)

It's hard to compare Ozzie as Koeman is shopping on a different budget now. No matter who you buy at the prices at the lower end they usually are what you get.

With the exception of Niasse the ones he did buy that cost big money have been excellent signings in McCarthy, Mori and Lukaku and if sold would make a huge profit.

Add to Holgate who has a bright future ahead of him and Brendan will have one too plus Besic when fit could also have a future at our club.

Barry has been a great player for us and is a shame we got him later in his footballing life and Ged has the makings of a star but with too many question marks over him.

All in all his buys weren't bad from Poundland. Let's see how well we do at Harrods.

The Besic one is a funny one for me. He gets an awful lot of praise but hasn't done much for me. Every time he's shown a bit he gets injured. I agree he's got quality but I just haven't seen enough from him to show what he can add without getting injured.

He signed the same time as Lukaku did but in all honesty has been very forgettable. I'm not saying he's not good enough but I am saying he's not yet proved himself.

I don't want to come across as harsh on the lad as he's had a tough injury this season. It's just that before this one he was in and out with niggling injuries so have never really seen him have a run in the side to say whether he is the player we all want him to be.

I do hope he gets his chance soon though when he returns as there's a fair amount of adulation for him already.

I am mainly with Ozzie on this. I would say firstly that Barry cost a fee. We agreed to pay a fee and had to pay it after the initial loan period. Added to which, Ozziee lists 19 players. All signed by Martinez in a 3 year period. Of that 19 only 2 are first team regulars. (yes only 2 regulars) Lukaku and Barry. Possibly Robles/ McCarthy? One of those (Barry) is on his last legs and will be lucky to last the season. Of the 19, we no longer require 12 of them. The current manager has more or less stated this. I won't list them. just go through the 19 and you will see what I mean. Our first team still consists of players from the Moyes era: Coleman, Baines, Barkley and Mirallas. Fringe players include Oviedo, Jags (from the Moyes era) and a couple of kids who seem to have finally found their way into the team. Davies and Holgate. I would summarise and say that this is a very poor return from 3 years of management. During that 3 years, players of proven quality (or at least regular 1st team action) have retired or been released: Howard, Distin, Osman, Pienaar, Anichebe, Neville, Naismith, Jelavic, Fellaini, Heitinger, Hibbert, Duffy, Donovan, Saha, Rodwell and Stones. Not sure all of these left after Martinez, but the majority did. I can state as fact that both Walter Smith and David Moyes ran the club on a shoestring. In fact after the sums are done, both these managers wheeled and dealed players and produced profit. ie there was no cost to Everton for their respective squads. An amazing achievement I think. Martinez arrived and spent some 40 million ish outlay over the 3 seasons. Lukaku he got with the Fellaini money. but 13 million on Niasse, 13 million on McCarthy and I don't know how much on McGeady (undisclosed) . I believe 4 million for Barry? . this makes me look like a Martinez basher this. but I am honestly just listing facts and would finish by saying thank goodness they got rid and had the foresight to bring Walsh and Koeman in just in time. I will never defend what Martinez did. and I believe one more season would have had us in the Championship.

Fair point that TA. Think fans love him for the passion he shows on the pitch. But your right, we don't really know just how good he is or isn't.

Degsy, that's a pretty good post mate. I would say that the reason for me that Martinez is remembered with such calamity is the fact that what he managed to ruin he did so quickly.

We shouldn't be surprised though as he served up to us exactly what he gave Wigan.

Anyway. We have Koeman and Walsh and it already looks a more promising future.
