I think eventually I could forgive Rafa, had he been at the top of european football. But this is a bloke who's achieved nothing in the last 7 years. Didn't fancy Nuno initially, but right now, give it to him! Maybe it's a ploy to get us behind him.

{Ed0666's Note - tell me who do you think in all sincerity the world champion manager you’re hoping to recruit? With all due respect mate you’re not very good, have a delapidated ground, one or two great players that’s it and no where near top 4 so champions league ain’t gonna seduce any decent manager. Be greatful Rafa wants the job and let him work hard and diligently and then in a couple of years you’ll be in a better position to attract a more attractive coach.

Hi Ed, I think you make an excellent point above around perception of our Fans. I do sit back and take in the ‘Nothing but the best mantra’ but I think most fans understand we ain’t getting Pep or the likes waking in at our club…. However what I don’t think has helped this time round (lost count 🤣) is that this manager will be replacing Carlo Ancelloti. Whilst the football in my opinion was rank, and no better home performances from him than I had watched under any of the x3 that went before him… he was still a ‘name’ in world football, clearly an elite name and therefore for some the person who follows him will be judged on the persona comparison. I for one will sit calmly and ultimately judge our manager on the performances in the green football pitch - whether that be Rafa, Nuno, Gallado, Ferguson etc…. But it’s hard initially not to panic should say another Allerdyce walk through the door!

{Ed0666's Note - At last some realism. I appreciate you’re sentiments Blu. When Carlo got hired I said he was not the right guy many times on podcasts and while editing. You need a guy who will give you 3-5 years of dedication, hard work, build a solid blueprint and building from the ground up. Wether that be Big Dunc or whoever? Rafa will give you that why can’t people see that? You’re trying to be Barcelona under Pep when in reality you’re Charlton Athletic. If Moshiri brings in Rafa then he deserves praise not ridicule as it’s a fantastic business decision.

Apart from his name I see nothing that should worry any manager following ancelotti, the football was dreadfull and yet that squad has cost a fortune, so no whoever our manager is next he is following his failure one he bolted from as soon as real Madrid opened the stable door.

{Ed0666's Note - I mean even if he stayed what would he have done?

If we are so bad and Rafa is so great, why does he want to come?

{Ed0666's Note - because he’s an extremely charitable man.

I thought Carlo hit the nail on head at the end of the season. If you want to play better football then you need players who are better on the ball.

The football was dire because we didn't have the players to play that style of football. That's what good managers see and fans don't.

Personally though I'm in the belief we need some consistency and stability over a prolonged period of time more than anything right now but most fans want success next season. A good manager we know it is going to take 2 or 3 years, people who understand football know it will take time.

However, we'll have the boo brigade out hounding the manager and he'll be off soon enough and we start all over again. So getting Rafa will only mean it will start on day 1 instead of month 6.

You're right Ed
Rafa is good enough
Nuno is good enough
Potter is good enough
Howe may even be good enough

Ancelotti was a 'wow' signing but ultimately didn't work out. We need to be realistic and work our to the top sides because we're no where near yet.

{Ed0666's Note - I think Dyche would also be ideal for you guys.

Charitable? I doubt he would be coming for free. I agree he is a good manager, but our squad is so poor and our recruitment so bad that any idea that he is going to come in and turn everything round in two years is unrealistic. We need a 10 year plan to be put in place, its not about getting the best out of this squad, it is a total overhaul we need.

{Ed0666's Note -that’s my whole point who better to do that than Rafa or someone like Dyche?

I’m sorry Ed, but grateful that Rafa wants the job? With all the issues that you just pointed out, we aren’t that far off from Europe for next year IMO. A couple key signings and we will be a better team with a world class grounds 2-3 years away. I think there are better managers, up and coming managers that want to take on our project, that don’t come with the baggage and have a longer shelf life than Rafa. Give me a Santo, Galtier or Fornseca over Rafa any day of the week. Winning cures everything but if Rafa gets hired and doesn’t rattle off 8 wins in a row (unlikely) the fans will burn down Goodison. Then we start all over again. Not worth the risk.

{Ed0666's Note - Hey Tony. I was in Tampa the other day. Love that place. Yes you maybe be only 2-3 signings away from Europe but ifs and maybes aren’t reslistic. You could sign three duds and be in the doldrums. You’d really prefer Fonseca than Rafa? Why?

Disagree our squad isn’t that bad, and neither is our recruitment. But when you constantly play players out of position, and have no clear plan then rubbish happens.
Do I want Benitez no. But not because of his red past. Because he has done nothing in recent years to show he deserves it. The past is just that. If we seriously want to build the club then we need a good coach not a has been manager. Brands does the purchasing so just get a good young coach to get the team playing to a system.
Don’t need sixty year old looking for one final pay day.

Definitely should not feel grateful that Benítez is interested in managing us.

The idea that there's something wrong or unrealistic about Evertonians or that it shows we are bitter or "stuck in the past" because we don't want someone who disrespected the club I find astonishing from anyone who calls themselves a fan.

What supporters of which team would want a manager who had disrespected their club?

Respect for the club (or any organisation thinking of employing anybody but especially a football club) should be such a basic condition for appointment that it shouldn't even normally be something that needs to be discussed.

Give me an ambitious young manager who sees Everton as a way to make a name for himself over someone doesn't take us seriously but thinks we might be a nice boost to his pension any day.

Bunny man you make a good point about fans having a manager who some years ago disrespected our club whilst managing our bitter rivals. I hated it when Rafa said that I really really did.

However I also hated when we had managers like Moyes who was managing us and quoting taking knives to gun fights. We have long been ‘dignified’ Everton who say all the right things off the pitch, do all the magnificent things in the community, liaise with fans when we change our badge, consider moving home etc…. Yet my kids have seen us play in Europe once, whilst their mates watch players lifting trophies etc… I don’t want to lose the fantastic wrap around work we do but ‘God give me strength’

I will forgive Rafa if he comes in and delivers like I forgave Wayne (one of our own) Rooney from kissing the Man Utd badge after he left us when he unlike Rafa was born a blue. (By the way I am not in the pro Rafa camp, I’m just not in the anti one! )

Hi Ed,

Tampa is great, what brought you to town? I feel Fonseca plays a more progressive type of football that would fit in well with Everton and he wins, which will endear him to everyone. I know he had his issues at Roma, but I understand part if that was out of his control. Rafa isn’t know for beautiful football and he hasn’t been winning in the last 5 years. Unfortunately, this is a what have you done for me lately business. Let me know when you are back in town and I’ll turn you on to some great restaurants.

{Ed0666's Note - hey Tony I was in the land of the strip club on business mate and come over at least once a month so may take
you up on that restaurant list offer. Are you an ex pat or a native? . Fonseca is more expansive than Rafa but winning the league in Ukraine isn’t La Liga. But credit where credits due it still has to be won. There is a dearth of decent managers at the moment and consequently slim pickings. Rafa May be doomed before he starts but there’s hardly any outstanding managers beating a Path to you’re door?

Hi Ed, native, lived in Tampa Bay for 30 years. Email me- tonyl@taylorwhite. com. I agree the pool of great managers is very shallow. Everton will be here in July (Orlando) can’t wait to see them play. Hopefully we’ll have a manager by then?! Lol!

{Ed0666's Note - hey will deffo give you a shout next time I’m in Tampa mate. You got more chance Andrea Boceli getting eyesight than you have Everton appointing a manger
