Hi Ed, I know financial we are a little bit screwed to put it lightly. But could you give us an update on any targets, it all seems relatively quiet at the moment. Early days I know but Frank said he wanted our business done as soon as possible.

{Ed002's Note - Everton are hovering around FFP issues and need to reduce the wage bill and utilise the cheaper or free options available to them (like Begovich, Townsend and Gray this past summer) and face work to extend contracts of some of the 8 who will out contract in the summer. They had a huge James Rodriguez issue that has now been resolved and 10 players aged 30 or more in the squad. Money will be very tight after a £140M loss last season pushing debt up to more than £400M. Mosiri continues to supplement the club up to the FFP limit but they will be structured as loans and have been partially used to reduce debt - which is a good thing. Mykolenko will be paid for in installments - which moves the problem forward. The wage issue needs to be addressed as a matter of urgency or the club can expect FFP sanctions.
The club need 2xCB, RB, DM, CM and S.
Chris Maxwell (G) Blackpool keeper wanted as cover but it is looking difficult.
Djibril Sidibe (RB) Out of contract. Auxerre are interested. A return to Everton may be possible. Seems unlikely.
Daniel Munoz (RB) Fiorentina saw him as an option to Zappacosta but ended up taking a loan of Odriozola and will return to Munez in 2022. Everton will perhaps offer an option if funds allow - there have been previous discussions wth Genk but with Brands gone the interest may have gone as well. Work permit could be an issue in England.
Max Aarons (RB) Bayern Munich decided against a move as the cost was seen as too high and Roma opted for another last summer although could yet return. Relegation will see him leave this summer. A scout from Borussia Dortmund attended a match in March to watch another player and recommended the club look specifically at Aarons. Manchester United want him as cover only and that may well price him out of a move at something like £30M. Spurs opted for another so there interest has gone. Brentford might be a very good solution. Whilst Everton and Arsenal are looking elsewhere right now, both could return to focus on Aarons. Seems very unlikely.
Fabien Centonze (RB/RWB) Metz turned down an approach from Marseille who opted for for Pol Lirola but they are still seeking another RB and could return. Metz say Southampton and Everton have sent scouts to watch him this season. Recommended to Chelsea by a very high-end independent scout but they will not follow up and the player will not want to be cover. Won’t happen.
Adrien Truffert (LB) Agent has offered the player to several Premier League sides including Brighton, Spurs and Everton.
Oleksandr Zinchenko (LB/LM) With the Mendy situation, MC will resist any approaches for OZ until they can assure themselves a replacement - and they have two players in mind to supplement the LB/LWB/LM position. I am not aware of Arsenal approaching Manchester City at this time although it should not be ruled out. West Ham have a declared interest but would want the price to drop. Everton or Newcastle may offer an option.
Levi Colwill (CB) loan to Huddersfield this season and Leicester want a loan with an option to buy next season. Everton may request the same when the clubs meet to discuss others. Scott Parker would like to take Colwill on loan to Bournemouth next season. There have been plenty of enquiries but Chelsea will try to resist a sale unless the player wants out. I would not rule out a loan, but it would be late in the window after being assessed by the Chelsea coaches.
Min Jae Kim (CB) lost out on a transfer to Spurs due to Work Permit issues and an approach from Napoli was rejected. Porto and Napoli do both have a declared interest. May suit Everton if they can get a Work Permit. Possible.
James Tarkowski (CB) will sign for Everton - but not a long-term solution.
Omar Colley (CB) is available and has been of sustained interest to Celtic. He is the third player that Watford tried to strike a deal with in December for a January move but they could not agree a price. He is represented by a proactive agency who, with the agreement of Sampdoria, are seeking to find him a new home with at least Everton and Leeds being approached in the Premier League.
Dan-Axel Zagadou (CB) Borussia Dortmund want a new contract signed before the end of January, but he can speak with clubs outside of Germany about joining as a Free Agent in the summer and would not be seen as a huge loss. There is no finesse about his game but his "representative" is trying to get him a move to the Premier League and has spoken with at least West Ham, Manchester United, Newcastle and Everton. It would seem unlikely that he would be a first choice for any given he is effectively only cover at Dortmund. Hoffenheim provide a viable option. The player has had very significant injury issues with his knees and must be seen as risky.
Harry Souttar (CB) Stoke City would sell at the right price but the interest of Burnley and Everton will have gone after he suffered a Cruciate Ligament Rupture.
Samuel Umtiti (CB) Newcastle are keen. Representative has also spoken with Arsenal and Everton.
Rodrigo Becao (CB) Udinese will sell with the player him having been watched by Kashima Antlers, Everton and Toulouse. Seems an unlikely option.
Clement Lenglet (CB) Another player Barcelona are keen to move on. Very patchy and inconsistent this past season. Value is falling away and they will move him on as soon as they can. Spurs see him as an upgrade to what they have and something may be possible in a loan to buy deal. Newcastle, Roma and Everton may provide options. Unlikely.
Gleison Bremer (CB) Carlo Ancelotti tried to take him to Napoli and also Everton. He could try again as an affordable option for Real Madrid. Spurs and Milan provide good options as Spurs look to upgrade on the CBs they have and Milan fear losing Alessio Romagnoli as a Free Agent. Again, he is of interest to Inter Milan who fear losing Alessandro Bastoni in the summer of 2022. Previously of interest to Leicester and Liverpool, but both opted for others. Juventus have him on a list of options should they lose de LIgt in the summer but there are certainly a couple ahead of him. Torino will look to a new contract to end thoughts of a move but that has not stopped clubs scouting him as they expect him to be available in the summer as he has so far refused a new contract. Won’t happen.
Samuel Umtiti (CB) decision is that he has dropped to the bottom the list of Barcelona CBs making chances slim that he would ever be a regular - released from his contract. Zenit offered an option in the summer but the player insisted he wanted to stay at Barcelona. Benfica had an offer accepted by the club but the player rejected. He can now join a club as a Free Agent with Arsenal and Milan providing options and Everton keeping an eye on the situation as they want to replace Mina. Could be a huge mistake.
Idrissa Gueye (DM) Final day January interest from Everton - no time to replace him so no move. Interest remains so possible.
Matheus Nunes (CM/DM) Manchester City, Newcastle and Spurs are keen. Manchester United see him a financial more viable Matic replacement than other options. Wolves will look to add him if Neves is sold after losing out on Paulinho. Everton interest was rebuffed last summer and whilst it still remains, a move seems unlikely and Wolves could win out.
Cheick Doucoure (DM/CM) Crystal Palace are interested in the Lens player as an option to Winks or Edson Alvarez. Watched by a number of other sides including Monaco, Arsenal, Everton and Toulouse. A possible Neves replacement for Wolves. Might be difficult to get a Work Permit for in England. Heading elsewhere, so no.
Florian Grillitsch (DM/CM) Roma will try and persuade the player to move to Italy - as Mr Mourinho tried at Spurs. Arsenal have an interest but would likely need Champions League football - and they have a number of other targets. Newcastle have had a well-known German scout looking for players - and whilst they can offer a good financial package, they would need to sell their project and that will be difficult. Discount them as having a less pressing need now. Interest of Everton will be directly from the manager, but it would be a significant step down for the player. Prior interest of RBL has gone. Won’t happen.
Harry Winks (DM/CM) Spurs told interested sides last summer that he was not for sale but if the player were to ask to leave the coach would be supportive of that. Aston Villa moved on from Pape Sarr and made an enquiry about his availability in the summer - that interest may remain. If West Ham were to sell Rice they might offer an option - as perhaps Manchester United might as a possible Matic replacement. Leicester might also be a possible destination if they were to lose Ndidi, but they have a preferred target in mind. Southampton have declared an interest. He would provide an interesting option for Everton and could be offered as part of the Richarlison sale. One to watch.
Gonzalo Villar (CM) It has not worked out for the player in Rome and his agent is being asked to find him a new club once his loan to Getafe runs out. Tentative approaches have been made to a number of mid-table Spanish sides but they have no interest at a €12M asking price for a player who would largely be a fringe player. This has prompted the player being offered to at least Newcastle and Everton in the Premier League. Won’t happen.
Adrian Rabiot (CM) Juventus are looking to replace their midfield misfits (Arthur, McKennie, Ramsey and Rabiot) before the start of the season. They are looking to fund replacements they have already identified. Rabiot will, like every other player, be offered to Newcastle. A third party has been instructed to find him a new home and he can be used in part exchanges. He has been offered to Chelsea as part of a deal for any of several Chelsea players Juventus are interested in, but Chelsea want to keep transfers as clean as possible and may make a cash offer. A return to PSG is seen as an option but PSG will have preferred targets. Approaches have been made to Barcelona - but they will look to others, and Arsenal. Everton and Spurs may provide unlikely options. Liked by Lampard but won’t happen.
Billy Gilmour (CM) Everton have declared an interest. Aston Villa may offer an option. Would be a loan only after Chelsea extended his contract. Certainly possible.
Angelo Fulgini (CM/AM) Feyenoord had an offer rejected last summer. Southampton, Burnley, Fulham and Everton have looked at the player. Won’t happen.
Ross Barkley (AM/CM) Knuckle-dragging bonehead Chelsea want shot of. Lampard won’t want him.
Aleksandr Golovin (AM/CM) The player opted for Monaco over the interest of Juventus and Chelsea and it looks like it was a good decision. He has asked Monaco if they will let him move this coming summer and they have agreed if a suitable offer is made. Everton made an enquiry with his representative when Benitez was coach and again when Lampard joined, but were told he is ideally looking for a high-profile club and would probably not entertain joining a club not in the Champions League, although Newcastle will try. Other English clubs who have enquired will have been told the same and none will want to be used as a stepping stone. Won’t happen.
Guus Til (AM) Spartak purchased the player from AZ after a significant return in terms of goals. Sadly he did not settle and the goals dried up. A loan back to the Eredivisie with Feyenoord has been very successful and attracted the attention of a number of clubs. Marcel Brands was very keen on taking the player to Everton to replace Gylfi Sigurdsson, but the interest may have left with Brands. Wolves provide an interesting option as it is a position they would like to strengthen. Feyenoord and the player would like a permanent deal but the funds required would likely be too much of a stretch for them. West Ham are another side looking for an AM player, and although they are one of many clubs to have scouted the player, they have preferred options. Fulham will need to replace Carvalho and may follow up on their interest. Ajax have not declared an interest, but they are fearful of losing Naci Unuvar and that could prompt them. The player has made no secret of his desire to move to Germany if he cannot stay at Feyenoord. It will be interesting to see what happens with what is a potentially significant talent. Unclear if interest remains.
Emre Tezgel (S) 16 year old striker attracting the attention of Manchester City, Everton and Chelsea. There is a huge complication which means the clubs need to tread very carefully. Won’t happen.
Daniel Jebbison (S) Everton had an offer rejected in the summer but could return with another. Brighton and Union Berlin have a declared interest in the Canadian. Another one to watch.
Cyle Larin (S) Brighton and Nottingham Forest are keen with West Ham and Everton enquiring after the availability of the Canadian. Unlikely.
Michy Batshuayi (S) Everton, Brighton, Southampton and Leeds offer options. Another club is already in talks with Chelsea but could be a very shrewd signing, but unlikely.

Cracking update Ed much appreciated.

As you say money going to be an issue so imagine we’ll have to sell a player or two to help with recruitment.

Disappointing we appear to be looking for a rightback though as thought Patterson was going to be the answer to that position for us.

Will be interesting to see if we do get a loan player from Chelsea whether it’s Colwill or Gilmour as both would be good additions.

Of the rest from your list, think Zinchenko, winks and Jebbison would all be good additions. Min Jae Kin would also be a decent addition not only for his abilities but may improve marketing ability in South Korea.

Will be interesting to see what happens, however think it’ll be a long window for us with most of the work being done at end of window as Frank will want to assess who he has left and ensure he gets the 2 best loan players in he can.

Great Article Edd but I think that just confirms what I thought it is worse than anyone thought ah well hopefully in a few years everything will be different and we will be in a better position. Looks like us fans our going to have to play our part again next season. Best fans in the world come on Everton hopefully Frank can pull something out of the hat. i'd be happy with 10th next year that would be a step in the right direction. New ground in 2023 so I am buzzing for that it’s going to be amazing.

{Ed002's Note - The stadium won't be open in 2023.}

2024/ 2025 isn’t that far away anyway it won’t be long going in. I can’t wait until it’s open sometimes my kids can’t see properly at Goodison and the seats are so bad lol will be nice to look forward to a brand new stadium. Hope the team will be sorted what’s that give us 2 seasons to get in better shape. Here edd can we not spend money now and pass it off as future earnings from the new stadium. If we can show we are going to generate money in the next 10years can we not tap into it now?

Is it not going to be ready for the 2023/ 24 season or is it 2024/ 2025 now.

{Ed002's Note - It won't be next summer.}
