The doom and gloom posters on here can't lose. If he is crap they will shout loud and clear "I told you so typical Everton". If he turns out to be mustard they say " I'm name up just what we needed" We had the same with Dwight McNeill. I have the utmost respect for posters and Eds but as far I know none of them have managed or scouted for a very poorly rum Premier league team.

Reg not one for doom and gloom but I can understand concerns.

No one has heard of the lad and he has only just broken into Sportings side. They are asking us for 15 million, yet clearly don’t think he is good enough for themselves and have just spent big on Gyokeres.

When you consider we are crying out for a striker who can be seen as an experienced and reliable goal scorer, it has serious shades of desperation mate.

There are other young strikers available and not that much more expensive, with more experience and proof of scoring goals at European league level.

From what Ed002 says it clearly sounds like a risky transfer.

However Brighton seem to have done well in recruiting relatively unknown players and now we’ve got Sargeson from Brighton as manager of scouting operations just hope if we do sign him it’s as successful as some of Brighton’s previous recruits.

Atleast it looks like we’ve got some direction in recruitment in the fact looking at spending money on young players who may develop and have a resale value.

I’d have hoped we went for a loan on such a risky player rather than paying out right Reg.

The main worry is the work permit issue. If we are signing him to just loan him out and recoup a cost in the future then that makes little sense when we need to spend all our money on someone who can come in now.

Big Reg, the point is we can't afford a 15m gamble. If we are going to take gambles on youngsters give Cannon or Dobbin a chance than waste money/ wages and agent fees on unproven talent.

My understanding is that Prem clubs can now sign up to 4 players who would not previously have met work permit requirements. There is a caveat, if a club fails to meet quotas for minutes for home grown players they could face restrictions in the future. I don’t believe there is anything stopping us signing this lad from Porrtugal, and a couple more in fact.
We have plenty of UK born and homegrown players and should meet the quota.
Now, whether this lad is any good or not, only time will tell. I’m certainly not going to put the club down for looking to sign young promising talent as that’s what we’ve been asking for. It would be a risk to take just him on, but it’s another attacking player and we’re desperate for them.

Just to add as well gents. Brighton etc don’t seem to spend 10’s of millions for these unknown prospects/ gambles, which makes the deal a whole lot more sensible.

I appreciate the Ed002 opinion on him being a poor finisher, and everyone else’s concerns on the price tag. I for one am over the moon he’s below 20, will have some resell value and the fact he’s splitting opinions is usually a good thing. I’d much rather a 19 year old who’s dcl stature and can’t finish than a 5.2 midget we signed for a similar fee from Brighton. A step in the right direction imo.
