We need to be careful what we wish for here. The fans have made sure by threatening ugly scenes that both the awards dinner and Martinez last game anyway get cancelled. We are on the cusp of one of two things. We either develop into something special with a new manager given time and money to build a great club and football side or the fans are allowed every year to demand more and get rid of the manager if we don't immediately get top six and win a cup etc. I am no fan of Martinez and don't fall on the side of those he deserved better blah blah blah. My concern is that our club becomes the next Leeds or villa with fans demanding change every year if not successful.

I don't in any way condone the abusive behaviour, however the nature of football as a business is results driven, so the days of managers with 10 - 20 year tenures like Ferguson, Moyes and Wenger have all but gone. Martinez had 3 seasons which is a fair run and at the end the club was deemed to be moving backwards, so like any business he has lost his job, when the rewards are so high the penalty for failure will be severe.

I totally understand and agree with you, Latchford, but I can't see us going down that road. We had the worst home record in Europe, our own worst record in our history, and getting progressively worse for the last couple of seasons. Think a change was justified.

It is my view that Martinez may well have developed the youth but once introduced into the senior set-up he all but destroyed them with his obstinacy and proven failed tactics. Let us give the Club the space and time it needs now to make the right decision on our next Manager/ Coach, one that can put back what RM took away.

Anyone who believes the fans got RM the sack need to get a grip. As wakka points out, football is about results and our results have been poor for quite a while. Admittedly, he would have been given grief tomorrow but that is not the sole reason he has been given the boot. Winning 1 game in the last 10, last seasons lowly finish as well as this seasons has more to do with it. Plus his stubbornness in not changing his system. If he was doing his job properly then he would still be our manager.

Ed002 great post. New to posting but follow the site regularly. Fans are far too quick to fall on the side of negativity. Even Koeman was aware of this in his pre match comments. I am no fan of Martinez but until he is sacked I for one will continue to support the team. It's bills fault, it's Martinez fault, I told you so. It's all that's on here lately and we are a week from a FA cup semi final.
