I wonder why millionaires like Whelan and Madejski want tributes to Thatcher at his weekend's matches? No sarky answers are required thanks - my question is obviously rhetorical and self-explanatory.
No way can our club's consistent & heartfelt support of the JFT96 campaign be contaminated by any public tribute to her at our match. We don't want politics in our sport - but we sure as hell do want justice.
Once a blue, always a blue - but that's an Everton blue, not a Tory blue!

1.) What on earth does Margaret Thatcher have to do with the Hillsborough enquiry?
I'm a blue of both varieties, I'm working class and proud of it but I have enough brains to look at the issues and judge people based on what I see and not what others say.
If a club owner wants to show some respect for somebody they respect that is surely up to them.
If Arthur Scargill dies and you want to hold a parade in respect I may raise a quizzical eyebrow but I will respect your right to do so.

Popeye {Ed025's Note - a lot of people suspect she knew of the cover up by the police, but chose to sweep it under the carpet popeye, i know its a conspiracy theory, but it does sound plausible mate..

2.) Apparently North Korea is a socialist paradise for anyone unhappy with capitalism - but bare in mind the football is crap as their stars get paid same as leader boys hairdresser - so they don't practice much and they put no effort in - same as the hairdresser

Funny how we all hate rich people but do the lottery every week after idolising our own favourite millionaires down at goodison

3.) That is just the sort of low brow tosh I expect from most Tories - high on opinion and low on substance. Thatcher treated all football fans with contempt and doesn't deserve a show of respect at any football match. {Ed025's Note - ding dong..

4.) Cant see the point of all the fuss really, she's dead, its not going to matter to her one way or the other.

5.) She treated all who did not buy the tory lies with utter contempt, may she rot in hell

6.) I don't think Thatcher did actually treat all football fans with contempt. As I for one know she had the upmost respect for the members of the armed forces and funnily enough some of us are actual football supporters.
Is that high on opinion and low on substance.

7.) 11 Apr 2013 00:17:28
Is right Ed, ding person dong.
@ the second poster, capitalism may have its merits but what Thatcher introduced was Corporate Fascism. Put that comment on the conspiracy site and I will give you a history lesson you person.

( my apologies Ed but I'm 48 and I remember all of it, she despised football and its supporters, I had to reply) {Ed001's Note - just to let Popeye know, his post has not been deleted, just left for Ed025 to reply himself if he wishes. Oh and as a moderator, he has no need to show respect for those who showed no respect, dead or alive. Not that it is your place to tell us what to do anyway.}

8.) Really getting fed up with all the sweeping statements. When did Thatcher treat "all football fans with contempt"? Was this another story your dad told you and swallowed as fact without bothering to find out for yourself? Ed25, you should be ashamed of yourself, regardless of your political leanings a person has died and as moderator you should show a bit more respect.

Popeye {Ed025's Note - its all about opinions mate, you have yours, and i have mine...being a moderator does not mean i cannot express my views, and i will give her the same respect as i will attilla the hun, saddam hussain, and adolf hitler....matter closed..

9.) I just want to reply to Ed01 who seems to feel that not only do moderators have the right to disrespect people they have never met but that it is not "my place" to question this.

The moderators are there to facilitate the use of this forum, they are there to ensure that people have their say in a reasonable way and that they follow whatever rules are in place.

They are not there to disparage dead individuals (even individuals who may have polarised opinion as much as Mrs Thatcher did). They are certainly not there to tell forum users that it is not their place to question any remarks they may find distasteful.

I have been a moderate poster on this board for over a year and have read it for a lot longer and your views on this subject have been unbalanced and over indulgent. I cannot believe you are abusing your role in this way.

Popeye {Ed001's Note - moderators roles are whatever I tell them to be. Funny how people only ever whine about them when their views are not the ones they have. You were quite happily using this board while Ed025 was clearly biased towards Everton, yet now you suddenly claim claim they should be balanced. Give it a rest. If you want to make decisions on what moderators should be, start your own site. Then you can tell as many people as you want what to do. If you are going to use someone else's site, then you will have to grow up and learn to accept that it is not up to you what they do. Nothing Ed025 has put has been abusive, nor has it abused his role, you don't even know what his role is, obviously.}

10.) I think Popeye should just go out & buy the last 3 copies of the Daily Mail. He can then surround himself with views, like his own, that Thatcher was some kind of mother-like saviour of this country. OK, she might have made the country better off financially, but morally, she damn near bankrupted us. Her views promoted greed, selfishness & an almost junkie-like worship of money. She destroyed lives, families & communities, (nearly all in the north!) I lived through her years in power & the feeling of sheer despair & hopeletvess was one I hope never to feel again.
Oh yes, & her barely disguised contempt for Merseyside & its inhabitants was unforgiveable. In a way, I hope some of these millionaire Tory club chairmen do try to impose a minute's silence at this weekend's matches. Then they might get just some inkling of how despised that woman was by ordinary people! Rant over.

11.) Gents his is now becoming a bit personal. I know the subject is very emotive but at the end of the day it should not cause rifts between fellow blues. I persoanaly total disagree with Ed 25s comments but as it rightly pointed out he has every right to express his opinion. As for him being a moderator holding these views is of no matter, as long as he does not impose his views by selectively choosing what to post and what not to post. This in my opinion he has not done as I have seen both sides of the argument being posted.

12.) Why discuss politics on a football site? Also what's wrong with being a Tory blue? That's the same as someone making prejudice remarks about black Evertonians. I hope the Eds do not condone prejudice towards political groups especially when the group they speak makes up the vast proportion of the nations current government and are the most popular political party in England (note, England. Not Wales and Scotland). We are not talking about fascism here. It's conservative politics, which Is deemed socially acceptable in politics. The left has created an environment of OTT political correctness in this country. Well, let's see it adhered to when talking about the other side. Speak ill of Tatcher, but don't anyone insinuate that a 'Tory blue' has any less of a right to exist than anyone else.

13.) Thatcher was only able to do what she did because she was put in power by the people. The majority of the country put her there so ask yourself why? Was it because the country at the time was in such a sate that the people had had enough? I personally blame the unions if it wasn't for them being so greedy then she would not have got anywhere near PM. You reap what you sow. Funnily enough hardly any of the policies her government put in place have been removed or reversed. So can we please get back to football related issues and the mighty Blues!!" {Ed001's Note - that is incorrect, the majority of people don't vote, so couldn't have put her there.}

14.) ED001 official stats for the 1997 election.

Majority – 43
PM Margaret Thatcher
Held on Thursday, 3 May
Electorate – 41, 093, 264
Turnout – 76% {Ed001's Note - which is less than THE majority, is it not? The majority voting for her would be over 50% of the population, she didn't even get 50% of the vote.}

15.) Ed001 sorry to tell you but the poster is correct the estimated UK population in 1979 was 56m the electorate roll shows 41m with a 76% turn out which is 31m which means that the majority of the country did actually vote in the election. Thatcher only got 44% of the vote but there has never been a party with over 50% of the vote since 1945

SA90 {Ed001's Note - no he is not, she did not get the majority of the vote at all, that is simply a lie. She got a majority, not THE majority, it is a very massive distinction between the two.}

16.) Bloody hell! My original post certainly hit a raw nerve. The passion of the respondents is commendable IMHO, as long as it's not delivered in an abusive manner. The debate has certainly shown that people do care. I don't agree with many of the views expressed, but I absolutely support the freedom of the posters to speak their minds - as long, to repeat myself, it's not abusive.

17.) Poster No. 5 - Yes. She may have have a lot of respect for the Armed Forces and the Police come to that, but she was only too willing to tar all football supporters as hooligans and actively agitated for the European ban. Not to mention the way she ignored Taylor's findings about the conduct of the South Yorkshire Police. So yes, your comments are without substance.

18.) Ed001 I was replying to your comment that the majority of the people don't vote not that Tatcher got the majority of the people to vote for her which no polotician since 1945 has. Should have been more specific

SA 90 {Ed001's Note - no worries, I know I made an error there too.}

Judging by his posts, Cowpat Sid seems quite articulate and has a self-deprecating sense of humour, so I'd guess his name is a joke about the sort of material usually posted on this website. But what would I know!
